In terms of transfer fees, did Stoke kick off on Saturday with a side that cost less than the Manchester United goalkeeper? Without searching, I don't know, but I suspect so. I am not going to put that name into my search engine to find out, either. I am also not sure of the point your making? I just think in a window that has seen clubs attempting to tighten up their defence we, in contrast, have brought in attacking players - fair enough - but we will be more open at the back and I don't think we can go through a season with what we've got. It's a concern.

It seems that most of the signings made by Premier League clubs have been on defenders during this transfer window(source: Liverpool gloryhunter who actually has knowledge of the comings and goings, trials and tribulations of all the Premier League sides and, I suspect others throughout the leagues - so I take his word for it). This is in contrast to the usual attempt to sign an attacking midfielder and/or striker.
I am not convinced that we are defensively sound yet I think we are done with signings - is this going to be our weak link and, ultimately, our downfall? Or will we sneak one more quality central defender in and shore things up?
I fear we will go with what we've got and I don't think there's the strength in depth.
Thoughts?

That's what all gloryhunters want you to think...what's the point of supporting your local side/where you come from...you might as well just follow one of the top four and be done with it. Now that would be interesting...

Mentals...impossible with all seater stadia...nothing like starting at the top of the Boothen and ending up at the bottom...that's how to celebrate a Stoke City goal. None of this polite clapping and almost apologetic acknowledgement of the goal just witnessed.

Supporting your local team.
Gloryhunting is the single most reason why English football is failing.
Having said that, Stoke City's survival in top flight football far outweights the importance of the national side but, again, the reason why Stoke will never win the Premier League is because of the gloryhunter - trouble is I sit in an office full of the bastards.

Born on Campbell Road right opposite the Victoria Ground. Its not quite in my blood but the passion was oh so close from an early age. Left home in 1961 - joined the Army, saw the world or most of it but always somehow managed to get hold of as much Potters news as I could. Stan asked to see the Stoke Supporter working in the British Embassy in Prague - and that was me. What a lovely man he was. Managed to ease one son into the mould and now he regularly travels from Durham where he lives to watch Stoke. After Premiership promotion, I lost heart with Pulisball but have now returned regularly to the fold from Lytham St Annes where I live. This seemed a nice post to make for my 800th! Lytham St. Annes - lived there from 1973 to 2010 - know it well. I like the area and has many special memories for me but full of gloryhunters.

I have roots in Stoke-on-Trent dating back to at least the early 1800's. This is on my dad's side and my mum's family moved to the area in about 1870 from Scotland. My mum and dad moved out of the area in 1960's before I was born but we always went back to visit family. On Saturday's, the mums and kids would go up Hanley for shopping and the dads would make their way down to the Vic. The weekend was made or broken by the result - they used to moan about Greenhoff and Hudson from time to time, too.It was natural, as far as my brother and I were concerned, to take up the family tradition and support Stoke City - I am glad we did - it's a rollercoaster ride but well worth it. The closest I've come to living in Stoke was when I was at Stafford Uni based at Beaconside from 1991 to 1993 and I used to go all the home games and a fair few away. I insist on having a Stoke top on holiday despite my wife's annoyance but the visits to Stoke are fewer and farther between nowadays due to my posse of children and work commitments - but I still love the feeling of being a Stokie - especially with all the gloryhunters that it pisses off - great stuff! Why would I be anything other than loyal, proud and Stoke???

Definitely Stoke to just be in the top flight, hopefully progressing along the way. Not bothered about England, one because no Stoke player gets picked, two because since the Premier League came along, it's been all about the usual suspects and three, Stoke City matter far more. I don't get stressed when England play but it's a nightmare with Stoke. Weekends are made or broken depending on the result. Don't give one with England.

My personal favourites are Bury away, 1990/91 Alan Ball 3rd tier season - Mickey Thomas sliding in at the back post and all hell let loose. Also, Blackpool away 1992/93 in the rain, Rooster Russell marauding through to make it 2-1, maybe 3-1. Ok, these were back in the dark days of lower league football and in no way do I want to go back to life out of the top flight but the fact that it was back in the good old days of terracing says a lot.
I don't get to many games nowadays due to family commitments, etc but I feel there something really lost now when we score. I haven't managed to negotiate a deal with my wife to get to an decisive match(last home game of the season is as good as it gets at the moment) so it could be the lack of importance that contributes to the empty feeling(well not empty but a nothingness that just isn't right when you've just seen your team score). Some of the lounge mentals I've been restricted to have been far more emotional and highly charged(I am now banned from watching any live matches with the family due to scaring the shit out of the kids from such games as Man City(2009), Aston Villa(2010) or Liverpool(2012) - this being the camel that broke the back when Walters equalised)than the all seater stadium experience.
It's great watching Stoke City live at the Brit but I really do miss the mentals from yesteryear - there's nowt better than finding yourself a good 20 metres from your original standing point having just spent the best part of a couple of minutes celebrating with someone you've never met before and wearing the cuts and bruises for a couple of days after - now that is how I remember getting the most out of a Stoke City goal.

Depends on what you want, really... I'd rather Liverpool win the league than Chelsea or Man City because it at least makes a change. I don't hate Liverpool as much as a lot of outspoken people on here seem to, i don't like them but i just think the league is a slightly bit more interesting if a side other than Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City or Arsenal win it. I'd also like Palace to stay as far away from us as possible, so a defeat for them would have been nicer. We'll finish 10th (well...9th) but i like a nice points margin. This also makes Tony Pulis the number 1 candidate for Manager Of The Season. None us of us want that, really... (see, some may, so yknow, there you go) **This!! Palace aren't going to finish above us, I have no problem with Pulis and I was around when Liverpool were the most gloryhunted team going. I also have a brother in law who wouldn't be able to pin a flag as to the whereabouts of the City of Liverpool yet signs off with YNWA and seems to love slagging Stoke off as being shit...so, for me best of both worlds, really...and I would prefer all of the bastards that usually win the title to be relegated and see anyone else win it including a Pulis managed side.
