...favourite for the Leeds job according to my Leeds supporting mate who then informed me, 'he's played for Stoke.'
Turns out he played 7 games on loan in 1993 when we won Division 2. News to me.
Anyone remember him?

He played for Swindon for a long time and was manager of Forest Green Rovers until last year, though I can't recall seeing him for us. Comes into the supermarket I work at - nice bloke.

Used to play for Blackpool. I remember him at Stoke - left back, I think.

Pretty sure he was a "right" back rather than left....but I can't be 100% sure???? Anyhow, Macari got him in on loan to help boost the final push for promotion, think he made his debut for us away at Bournemouth???

I was at that game, remember it like it was yesterday, it was a nice warm spring evening in Bournemouth, a real pleasure to be there, not having a ticket I got in with the Bournemouth fans on a covered side terrace and the Stokies were making a decent noise in so far as you can on a small open end terrace where the singing drifts off in the ether. I just looked up the detail. Overson was suspended but Butler returned. Ronnie Sinclair got injured in a scramble and Gleghorn took over in goal! (This is how we came to get Bruce Grobbelaar for the next few games to fix the goal keeping 'crisis'). Stein was tripped for the penalty which he scored on 68 minutes but Efan Ekoku raced through to equalise for Bournemouth in the final minute. Crowd: 7,129 Sinclair Butler HockadayCranson Sandford Gleghorn Foley Russell Stein Shaw Beeston Ware/Regis Not a bad side when you consider it is the division where the Vale now ply their trade.

My mind might be deceiving me but I believe he may have had an assist for Steino's famous second goal at Rotherham. When I say assist, I mean he rolled a 10 yard pass to him 30 yards from goal before the Golden One turned and lassooed the ball into the top corner.

Wasn't that the game where Cranny skied one trying to clear - obviously miskicking it. Gleghorn - who was in goal at that point - came out and caught it only for the ref to blow for a back pass?

He was getting on a bit from what I recall- 35 or 36 when he was (briefly) here.
I think Lou must have known him from his time at Swindon. To be fair he was a pretty solid addition to see us through those last few weeks of the season as, despite having an excellent first team, we didn't have much of a squad in 92/93. Butler, Cranson, Overson, Sandford were the usual four, but the only cover we had really was Graham Harbey who was useless. Paul Ware (RIP) and Dave Kevan might have played the odd game at right-back,but we were really struggling as soon as anybody got injured.

Most definitely. All the back four were at least a level above. The same goes for at least two of the midfield, and Steino had magic in his boots. It was quite obvious early on that we were going to get promoted that season and if there's been a better side since at that level then I haven't seen it.

That can't be true surely?
He was awful at Forest Green, long ball merchant with no tactical awarenees despite being given loads of money by chairman.
I know I have seen them a few times.

Well Gleghorn was playing wide left in them days, so would have been Foley and Beeston pulling the strings.
