Yes I'm far happier with Collins at full back than Huth. Right I'm off to bed to dream of overlapping full backs and Glen Whelan screamers! Night lads ... Keep it dry! ;D

Interesting about Wilkinson/Huth and clean sheets. All those goals came from Collins though. ;D

This is how I see it.
Wilko at RB: Mobile. Better able to get forward. Sticks to his position. Terrible distribution. Right footed.
Huth at RB: Offers nothing going foward whatsoever (apart from set pieces). Continually sucked into the middle leaving flank exposed. Terrible distribution. Not right footed.
Wilko for me.

Huth's distribution is better than Wilkinson's though. Much better long balls forward and I'm sure I saw him put a decent ball into the box in one of our home games.

Huth's distribution is terrible imo. Swings his foot like a pendulum, just as aimless as Wilko's punts imo. Huth put some decent balls in at Bolton but hasn't been anywhere near as effective in any of the games since.

Think more about my username Paul (I think)! ;D Are you suggesting that we'll be signing a Bayern Munich right back, perhaps one with a religious denomination for a first name?

An extremely fair assessment. Not fair at all. Huth has a much better idea what to do with the ball and better vision when he does it. Really? When has he shown this then? He used it pretty well against Bolton but against Everton and West Ham he was punter in chief.

Beyond the Bolton game (and I think you're a bit harsh on the others), I seem to remember he showed it with Boro last season - their first game against us I thought he was excellent (though admittedly from the center, not fullback). Wilko has never shown it.

Wilko has never shown it. We're talking about from the right back spot though, and from what we've seen so far, neither of them use the ball in that role at all well. I still think the rest of my points stand up as well - Huth doesn't look as mobile, doesn't look as capable of getting forward and gets dragged into the middle a lot. He's a top notch centre back, but not a right back.

We're going to have to disagree on some of the points, I think you're overly harsh on Huth. In the end, neither of them are natural fullbacks, and if the question is between two players who are both out of position (as the name of the thread, Huth v Wilko, implies), I think Huth is the stronger option - and I'm thrilled to have a backup of Wilko's quality.

I just don't see what Huth has brought to the right back position to make him look any better than Wilko. If anything we look weaker in the position than we did before. He's clearly uncomfortable on his wrong foot for a start.

For me Huth should not play right back, nothing against him I think he is a great player and there is little to choose between him Abdy and Ryan , however Wiko has matured into a very good right back, still room for improvement going forward but he is quick more decisive and closes his man down much better than Huth has done in his games so far. I hope Wilko retains his place

When has being able to pass a ball accurately been a requirement of our full-backs?
Wilko defends better and attacks better than Huth, therefore the choice as to who plays right-back becomes a no-brainer. Or am I missing something ???
I can't believe some people are arguing for playing a square peg in a round hole. Should we play Tuncay at full-back? I bet he passes the ball well, why should it matter that he's actually a midfielder/forward ...

Why compere Huth and Wilkco its not like Wilkco has 20 odd caps for his Country and has played in the Prem since he was about 18 or 19 like Huth . Wilkco has come on leaps and bounds under Tone but he is the same age as Huth .

Huth has been immense at right back in my opinion, the lad oozes quality, but i have nothing against Wilko at all. Lets just leave it to the gaffer, his results over recent years suggest he gets most things right, even though some fans are not of that opinion

You dont play for Germany if your not good enough Huth has played all his football in the Prem from a very young age and plays as a full international for a top 5 world rated country which is something that Wilko will never attain too .

Wilko and Huth are both defenders not right backs sorry but Huth is head and shoulders above Wilko who is a good squad player no more sorry but i know which one will be going to the World Cup this summer and i cant see Wilko breaking into the England squad just yet !!!!

Your argument makes no sense whatsoever. Unless Huth won his caps playing right back, then any talk of them is completely irrelevant. Being a defender doesn't make you automatically equally as adept playing full back as at centre back. You might as well, as I said, play Fuller or Tuncay or Sorensen there according to your argument. Huth is an excellent centre half but a poor right back.

Wilko has improved so much under TP because he listens ,worksaaarrrrd and is a good kiddee but he aint as good as Huth not by a long way at right back or centre half Wilko and Dicko both improved under TP because of their whole hearted commited attitude to work aaaarrrrdddd
