Tonge had a super game when introduced as a second half sub.
Playing in the middle of midfield, I thought that he made the team play. Never wasted a ball, always looked composed and played several perfectly weighted passes.
Undoubtedly, he is one of the "footballers" amongst our ranks but I can see why he isn't a regular for us. He is great when we are dominating possession, but he doesn't give us the strength or mobility in midfield that Pulis demands of his team, particularly as in the Premiership, we rarely, if ever, dominate possession against anyone.
That said, I thought he was superb last night and would be a fine acquisition for any Championship side challenging for promotion.

Agreed, mate. We played much better after he came on, and can't understand why he didn't start. Good squad player, but why TP stats with Soares beats me, he was awful last night.

Tonge is a quality player and like Soares deserves regular first team football. Calling Soares 'awful' is a bit harsh IMO, he's rarely played a game this season and to expect him to pick up the pace straight away in a blood and thunder cup tie was asking a lot.
Both would benefit from a move back to the Championship.

We really could do with somebody with the same ability at Premiership level. They'd probably cost the best part of 10 mil mind!

Tonge's best game since he joined us. What I don't understand is that, with that level of skill, he should be able to shine in reserve games - but, sadly, he doesn't for whatever reason.
I think he is in the shop window and will have done his chances of a decent loan move a power of good if there were scouts there last night.

Stole my thunder Jono, was gonna start a Tongue thread myself mate. Changed the game last night. It was nice to see a midfielder, apart from Whelan who actually crosses the half way line. When we stopped playing that silly one upfront, one behind, we really looked a very good attacking side. I know we cant do this aginst the top four, Villa, Spurs and Man City, but the rest are pretty average. Was lovely to see open attacking football!!

We got off relatively lightly on the injury front last season and will hopefully do the same again this. We have some decent second string players that will be great cover, so I wouldn't encourage selling them. We are quick to have a go at TP for his penchant for centre halves, but I guess Harry is wishing he stocked up now. If we can afford to keep them, then keep them all!

I'm a bit fan of Tonge, but I've given up hope of seeing him play in a Stoke shirt.
He's an excellent footballer, and could certainly do us a job on the problem left-side-midfield slot.

Tonge is a proper footballer who can pick a great pass, has great vision. Him, Tuncay and Fuller in a side would be frightening. I'd love to see Tonge partner Delap in the middle.

I like Michael Tonge but whether he has the consistency to play regularly at the top level is questionable
I sat row 7 in the Seddon last night, and he wanted the ball ALL THE TIME when he came on, but Wilko often went down the line with his throws
He has time on the ball, can unlock a defence, but could he do a job week in week out in a side that plays two banks of four?
Feel a bit sorry for the guy tbh - could do a magnificent job for any top 6 championship side, but may just fall short of TPs requirements defensively

I don't think we will see any more of our players out on loan now until we are knocked out of the league cup. I really believe the club want to give the league cup as good a go as they can without risking Premiership survival.

If anything should happen to Whelan, Tonge is probably the only viable alternative for anything resembling creativity in the middle of the park.

Tonge is an example of how talent can waste away here. Let's hope it doesn't happen to Tunny!

And the Portsmouth home game where he was brought in to play in a position and decided to swan off doing his own thing. Pulis' reaction to this made his Carl Hoefkens hissy fits look like he was standing on the side of the pitch combing Carl's hair and looking after the kiddies. If my memory serves me right, until one player got injured and had to came off, Tone was looking at getting Tonge off the pitch hastily.
