I think his arrival will inspire the players to work harder but on the other hand Shearer has no managing experience, so that might cost him a few points, personally I think Newcastle are fucked but thats my opinion.

ukyestony...Well It's true.
EVEN if he fails, the impact he could have on our prospects could be very damaging.! Don't dismiss his pride and commitment to the Geordie cause.

He's certainly throwing his weight around but I just don't believe he's up to the job.

He'd have been better waiting until they were down. Why waste 10 weeks wages up for grabs at £ 50,000 a week..? The Chairmans happy.. The Neanderthals are happy.. The Shareholders are happy.. It's a Win.. Win situation all the way..The Dream Ticket. If you don't believe me....ask Kevin Keegan... Did his reputation suffer.? I bet his bank balance didn't.?

I think one of the reasons Ashley has brought Shearer in is so he can't have the fans say that he didn't act when the side looked doomed to relegation.
There is no doubt Shearer's arrival will boost morale, but with away trips at Stoke, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Liverpool, and Chelsea at home on saturday, points are still going to be VERY hard to come by.

I'm with Joe on this one.
If Newcastle go down having lost 6, 7 or 8 of their remaining games Shearer's reputation will be tarnished forever.
I too always thought of him being a pretty intelligent chap, but I think his ego has got the better of him here.
Of course he COULD be their saviour but to suggest that he is some how in a GUARANTEED win win situation just isn't true.

Ashley is the enemy on Tyneside....Make no mistake....He will be the one held responsible regardless of how Shearer performs.

Ashley is the enemy on Tyneside....Make no mistake....He will be the one held responsible regardless of how Shearer performs. Mumph, Ashley is indeed the enemy on Tyneside, but tell me ... if 'Castle go down having lost the majority of their remaining games under Shearer's stewardship, do you really (honestly) believe that there will be EXACTLY the same number of Geordies calling for him to be the manager who should be entrusted with the job of bringing them back up as there would have been had he not even had managed them at all?

wise move for mike ashley, ive got the feeling that shearer has been bought in as boss to play a phsycolgy trick on the supporters, shearer being such a hero at st james will stop a lot of ott protests about their relegation and with shearer as boss ashley wll expect the toon crowd to turn out for shearers team in the championship next season instead of boycotting the club in protest. and out of their love for shearer they will do.

Mumf, come on chap, there is no way you can proclaim this as fact.
He might keep them up with plenty of breathing space, he might ALMOST keep them up with a gallant fighting effort that ultimately just wasn't enough ... both scenarios surely certain to likely mean that he remains at the helm next season.
However there is also the possibility that over the next eight games they will get tonked all over the place and become a complete laughing stock.
If the latter scenario DOES happen, then to suggest that Shearer will still be UNRESERVEDLY seen as their saviour next season is just silly.

Post by sweetandinnocent on Apr 2, 2009 1:08:32 GMT
yes but he will be the saviour because by newcastles own logic, shearer is too big of a name not to succeed. but outside of newcastle in the real world its quite possible that shearer could completely mess it up. ;D there is also every chance he may succeed and to go onto great things as a manager. id like to wish him good luck,, but i wont.

I love this time of year because of watching football fans blart on telly (when we beat Boro some of their fans were getting close) but Geordie fans blarting is undoubtedley the best!!!

Newcastle were just drifting along with nothing to break them from a downward spiral so a bit of a final throw of the dice from Ashley and Shearer is in a no lose situation....it will brighten up the atmosphere aorund SJP....but Shearer as a motivator for the team....I have my doubts...he's hardly the most charismatic on TV, knows feck all about managing a football team and is hardly going to be out on the pitch scoring vital goals..... a couple of defeats and a temporary feelgood factor will be gone.

the 'management' task will be performed by Dowie, no question
Shearer is there because Ashely knows that if he appointed Dowie on his own he would have been lynched...

that's the point though Roy...
nobody would give a shite if they weren't our immediate relegation competitors
This appointment has the capacity to fuck us up... make no mistake.
I accept that Shearer has no experience etc etc but you never know what the "galvanizing" effect can do.
