I think you'll find we haven't booed the man with no attention span, he hasn't played against us this season. Sorry, i must of got you mixedup with every other No mark team we go to. So every other team apart from United (or the "big four") is a "no-mark"? How so?

Some of the refereeing really is farcical, there's a lack of competence. Depending on who you listen to, a lot of the top level referees (Mr Styles being one) are not used as top-level referees because of their competence, but because of connections, dresses up nicely etc. I do think though that there's a bit of naivety in there somewhere - Delap got booked for a tackle where Walcott threw himself dramatically over the top of him and hurt his arm completing the dive. Walcott plays for England, therefore yellow card to Delap. Gerrard is one of the biggest divers in English football, but he's seldom punished for it. I don't know, the whole disciplinary system is wrong, their retrospective action system just doesn't get things right. How can the linesman have seen Bosingwa kicking the Liverpool player in the back and decided it warranted no action? Retrospective three match ban, please. Regarding the Respect programme, the players need to be brought equally into line. Sending off Gerrard, Rooney and various others every time they scream 'Fuck Off' in the referee's face would soon bring an end to that, but they just aren't brave enough. Book everybody who dissents except the captain and they'd soon get the picture. There'd be hell up in the press and amongst the managers, so I think referees steer clear of that sort of thing. Only Rob Styles and (in the past) Graham Poll seem to really enjoy the limelight, hence Styles sending somebody off every single game. Unfortunately, Howard Webb, a cracking ref two years ago has also become a parody of himself a la Poll and loves the limelight aswell now. Whistle happy fucker. It will change in time, FIFA are experimenting with having four extra officials on the touchlines to make sure every angle is covered. At the moment though, I think there's too much pressure on them and until that changes, they won't be able to attract a new crop of talented refs. I would honestly say though that every team gets their fair share of bad decisions. If I were to believe my dad, United are the most hard done by team in the history of football, I've never heard anyone scream at a TV so much. Unfortunately, Respect in football might just never happen. Somewhere along the line, refs aren't given permission to send players off for serious abuse of referees. Poll tried it by sending McFadden two or three years ago, quite rightly, www.guardian.co.uk/football/2006/nov/10/newsstory.sport6 but the barage of media abuse and accusations of being a big time charlie has put off refs ever trying it again. I played rugby for 8 years, and although it's not as angelic as it's made out to be, it starts with calling the ref sir and speaking to him politely. This is encouraged from day one. If football took the same approach at grassroots, worldwide, who knows, maybe it could change in time. Probably not though. I'm not sure how well the extra officials thing would work. At a grassroots level, it makes organising matches much more difficult because you've got to muster up 4 more linesmen (or whatever you fancy calling them). That Poll incident is ridiculous. He did the right thing and got lambasted for it. The referee who disallowed Liverpool's goal against us early in the season got given hell, despite Kuyt standing ahead of the last man and therefore standing offside. Referees need to start standing up to players, but to do that they need to know that they're going to get some backing from everywhere for following the rules of the game. I think the FA have tried to do that, but it's just made people keener to pick up on incidents and say "hahaha, the FA's campaign is failing, sweeet". If just one referee stood up to players, he'd be treated as a national joke and as soon as he got a debatable incident wrong, he'd get given hell. We'll have to disagree on the number of decisions you get in your favour, I think there's a clear bias towards you in tight games, certainly on Boxing Day we weren't given a single decision and Gary Neville was allowed to use the referee as his puppet.

Oldest team in the Premier League, founder members of the Football League, contested the first ever League match against West Brom (I think for some reason we kicked off 2 minutes before every other match). Without us and the other 12 clubs, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Fair play! If Icould make one quick refereeing fix, I would get rid of all this aplogising to managers bollocks. When refereeing a match, you can only judge what you see. This judgement however, can be clouded by thoughts of repercussions and being reprimanded for a decision. If the FA said, right, referees have complete immunity and we stand by every judgment made, they would be under less pressure. They're already under pressure enough without thinking 'Shit, if i call this wrong, i'll be refereeing in League 2 next week and have to call Rafa to apologise.' It erodes their self confidence and conviction. In terms of the appeal committee, personally, I would remove clubs rights to appeal and have a specialist panel of refs and/or ex players to check every red card, and only they can change the decision. Anyway, good nitol

History is showing himself to be an arrogant twat and is typical of most of the Manchester supporters that most of us come across all the time. But he is right - we are no mark, just like 87 othe clubs that make up the numbers in English football. It will only change when the FA grow some bollocks and realise that they are the guardians of the GAME not of the Elite and start to restructure things so that more clubs can start to harbour genuine ambition again. As things stand it would make good sense if the "no mark" 16 clubs in the Premiership told the other 4 they were resigning and going to play in the Football League thus leaving them playing each other every week. That would soon bore the public and TV revenues would start to dry up. It would also take away the illusion that they are winning anything meaningful. They would be competing in a 4 team league just like they are now! BM

Been stewing over this comment chirper, i ain't going to call it bullshit because it's your opinion. I hate wolves and derby far more than i will ever hate man utd but i'm no 'plastic stokie' as you put it. I was there as well trudging through the 80's and 90's at the vic and beyond and i love the club just as much as you but i really hate wolves and man utd don't come close. Maybe it's down to the fact that i left the potteries at a young age and formed other hates of my own. You sir are a genuine football supporter. You understand that football's not about hatred, it's about rivalry. We hate Liverpool (North-West rivals), and City (Manchester/Salford rivals) and Leeds (Trans-pennine rivals). All of these rivalries are justified and reciprocal. If I were a stoke fan, I would also be concentrating my 'hatred' on our geographical rivals, as pretty much every other club in the country does. All this 'how much do you hate the Shit?' is irrational nonsense. Before people hit the quote button, just remember that I haven't insulted anyone with this post, just made sensible, valid points. Have a think about what your rivalry as a club, not as an an individual with Manchester United is. As far as I can see there isn't any at all. One thing I will say, I would kill to have half the passion at OT that you lot have at BS. We only get it for the big occasions, Champions League games in the later stages and the Liverpool and City matches. Unfortunately, out of the 76,000 supporters, a large proportion travel from all over the place to watch, in turn killing the atmosphere completely. However, that doesn't mean people in Manchester and Salford don't support United. Salford, population 80,000 is almost exclusively red. The split in Greater Manchester (population 2 million), not taking into account Wanderers and Wigan fans, is probably 50/50 between United and City. I was born in Salford and live in Greater Manchester so I support my local team as much as any of you. The United fans you all love to hate, aren't football supporters, they're plastic fans who follow United from afar. Every club has these, but the numbers vary relative to the size of the club. If Stoke were to gain a foothold in the Premier League and become a Champions League club in years to come, you'll have the same problem. Our fans are often accused of being 'obsessed' with clubs like Liverpool and City. I think that's slightly flattering, but as our biggest rivals (with the exception of Leeds), it's only natural to look slightly worriedly over our shoulders before shrugging off the challenge. There's an ongoing theme amongst a lot of United fans at the moment of 'being a top red'. Like a code to being a United supporter, to which if you don't adhere, you'll be frowned upon... ie. no colours at games, hate Ronaldo etc etc... It seems to me that there's a similar thing at Stoke where if you don't hate United you're looked down upon. So in turn, you all naturally hate us because 'Ronaldo's a cunt' (he might well be, but he's our cunt), Fergie's bribed every football official under the sun, and all our fans are Out Of Town, Johnny Cum Lately Glory Supporters. It's all scripted, non-original and devoid of any though or personal opinion. Anyway, good luck to you this season, I genuinely hope you stay up, your home support is second to none and I can't get enough of Delap and his freaky throw in (where the fuck did that come from, never heard of it whilst he was at his previous clubs!) Peace out and Viva John Terry. Easy. Who Are Ya. I have respect for non-glory hunting Man Utd fans like yourself - I work with one. It is telling though that, as far as I can remember, you're the first Man Utd fan to come on here who hasn't been irritating and annoying - after the Boxing Day game there were hordes of (supposed) Man Utd "fans" coming on here spouting pathetic arrogant nonsense that was even worse than the Arsenal fans after we beat them. I'd imagine that proper fans like yourself would have been extremely embarassed by them. Man Utd are probably not helped by the fawning attitude of the press, and of television which only antagonises fans of other clubs - not much that you, as a fan, can do about that.

Hated them since the 70's when they got relegated and thought they owned every city they visited.
Oddly my 11 year old hates them as much as I do, his particular hate is Ronaldo, admires his skill but hates him for his cheating.
