As a kid I'd always be in the Boothen (we're the right side,we're the right side,we're the right side Boothen End) but as my late teens arrived and into my 20's I joined the paddock up near the away fans (mid 80's until early 90's). Had some great times in there with a good mix of lads including some of the old brigade. The air of excitement, tension, uncertainty etc was electric some days,an atmosphere all of its own and one I've not really experienced since.
Became a Stoke End seat boy after a few years, mainly due to vast amounts of cheap lads n dad's tickets on sale outside the ground but we always kept an eye on the cauldron of the Paddock often engaging in a friendly goading to provoke a response from our mates who were in there.
Seem to recall a splinter group that formed in the Butler paddock too made up of former Paddock lads. Thinking back it was hell of an intimidating place for visitors. The massed ranks on the Boothen in front of them, the crazy gang in the paddock to their right, another group taunting them to their left and yet another mob above and behind to add to their fears.
I don't think a lot of people understood these different groups and maybe still can't but that's how the terraces were back then and it was great to have been a part.
Wonderful memories of good mates and great laughs. Happy days indeed ;0)
