For me it should be reserved for “serious” foul play and diving. Linesman are really good these days, way better than they were and their judgement should be trusted. Offsides are the last thing it should be used for, along with dubious penalties, handballs etc Yes. And then if there is a really obvious offside balls up without having to get the lines out, they can intervene. Clear and obvious is the line they trot out and yet that decision and indeed the handball were not a clear and obvious mistake. Makes my piss boil

If VAR gets more decisions right then I’m all for it. Don’t care how long it takes, multi million pound decisions are being made by idiots….VAR all day long.

But obviously you were aware of Wan-Bissaka being level with him? He just looked offside, I’m just saying without VAR it’s possible the move doesn’t even develop for the reasons dirtygary’s just stated above ......and THAT is the reason that VAR shouldn't exist. The flag goes up and the mental doesn't happen. The outpouring of emotions is curtailed and you don't stop being a football fan at a game for five minutes.

If VAR is favouring the big clubs, then it must be got rid of ASAP.

Reckon that offside decisions would be far more meaningful if based on there being daylight between attacker and defender.

Just saw highlights of Everton v Notts F and it just shows what a mess the game is at the top. Big decisions never went to VAR as the person controlling it is a Luton fan. You couldn't make it up.
I feel gutted for Coventry perhaps they should have asked for a Man City or Stoke fan doing VAR. Just a thought.

There is no way in hell that the lino doesn’t raise his flag immediately if there is no VAR.
It’s human nature. He’s not going to allow a potentially offside goal against that lot in the 120th minute of a cup semi final. He flags it off, the goal is never scored, Cov never get the chance to have a definitive decision made. Simple as that.
I don’t like the fact that you can’t celebrate anymore but there are ways round that. Surely it’s not beyond the wit of man to develop a clear signal for the lino to give that shows everyone it’s tight and it’s going to VAR while play is still ongoing.

I can certainly sympathise with that view, I just think the genie's out of the bottle now. VAR ain’t gonna be scrapped so we have to learn to live with it (and hopefully improve it)

The referee should be asked to make a ‘soft’ decision just as they do in cricket. If VAR doesn’t show that a clear error has been made by the referee, then the ‘soft’ decision stands. Emphasis here on the word clear. There was no clear evidence that the Coventry player was offside - it was marginal.

I hate VAR - I think it’s shit and ruins the game. But you can’t bemoan it making the right decision just because it goes against the team you wanted to win 😁 I don’t care about the right or wrong decisions, I care about the feeling I’ve had since a small child, seeing the ball struck and watching it fly into the back of the net, Mickey Thomas putting us one up against Liverpool, and the sheer joy and excitement of being crushed onto the barriers of the boothen whilst I loose my shit in total Stoke City ecstasy. We haven’t even experienced VAR yet but it’s being implemented by people who have never and will never feel this way about their team when they score. If they had any feelings about the sport VAR would of been scraped on it’s inception

One of the, if not THE, greatest moments in the history of the FA Cup ruined because officials are now actively looking to disallow goals. The human element of the game has been removed and it's little more than a computer game now. I don't think that the line is accurate for a starter.

If someone from 80s woke up from a coma to watch a game today they would start following rugby VAR in rugby is even worse than football. It works pretty well in sports such as cricket and tennis, and goal line technology in football is fair enough too. I guess the main issue is where humans still have to make the decision, drawing lines wherever it suits them.

The rules are actually the problem here, a linesman needs to be looking at two different areas on the pitch, potentially 60+ yards away from each other at exactly the same time, it’s an impossible job. The offside rule has always been controversial however they tweak it.

If you look closely the blue line is over the toe on the Man Utd players foot, shouldn’t it be the end of his boot?
Watched the Everton v Forrest game yesterday too & Forrest were well & truly robbed by VAR.

The Forest decisions are funny ones, I didn't think the first 2 were penalties. The first one the player dived after very minimal contact, the second would have been harsh because the player was too close to him and Young's arm wasn't in an unnatural position. The 3rd is the one that's most controversial, is the player offside as he runs onto the ball? This would explain why this wasn't given but if he was onside it's a stonewall penalty

If Notts forest claim is correct about the 4th official denyingng 3 penalties because of him being a Luton fan is discusting and corrupt

Jota's onside looked further 'off' than the Coventry lad's.
Forest's VAR decisions - ludicrous.
Get rid. It doesn't work.

However replacing because with and still makes the situation unacceptable as it allows a situation where bias may be claimed. Overall a stupid decision to give him that game.

In that pic the ball hadn’t been released, the Cov player is stationary and the United player is running towards the goal Can VAR split seconds yet ? Absolute farce.

Coventry fans will be looking at that VAR line for the rest of their lives thinking ‘Really?’
Absolutely not clear evidence of offside there. More questions than answers.
They were basically robbed.

... right decision though, wasn't it? I'm not a fan of it generally but for offsides I think it's necessary. Your adding another level of incompetency to it. With goal line its technology, its bullet proof and its fully accurate. With offsides. They get the exact moment they kick it wrong everytime. Then the lines are done by interpretation of the furthest point. The still yesterday on Wan Bissaka is half way up his boot, its absolutely shocking. It's no where near 100% accurate and as such is just another person guessing. Until they can do it via technology so its accurate stick with liners.

I suspect you're right, but before VAR linesmen were ordered to favor the attacking team if they were unsure. They changed the offside rules to suit VAR. Same with handball. That's why it needs to be fucked off. It changes thing that didn't need changing.

I don't think that the line is accurate for a starter. None of them ever are. They are done by a bloke in a room. It's beyond a joke. It's also impossible because of the curving of the lenses. And that's in addition to there being no clear definition of when the ball is hit, so together it's impossible to call these kinds of decisions. If only we had a rule stating who should get the benefit of the doubt in these situastions...
