So I just watched this.
And it led to a bit of discussion
I don’t really start music threads but who are our best male solo artists?
I was struggling to remember who should be in it
Top 5 in (taking into account talent, star power, longevity etc )
Bowie Elton George Micheal Tom Jones? Robbie?
Who is missing?

What a fucking legend. At the time I thought “this is horrible” but now I look back on it with a smile because everything was so much happier back then

What a fucking legend. At the time I thought “this is horrible” but now I look back on it with a smile because everything was so much happier back then Could you imagine any of these modern 'superstars' being able to just stand up on the spot, no setting up, no stage crew, no backing track, no band, no set list, just you & a dog shit mic hooked up to some shit tannoy, and you're able to sound this fucking good?! It should go down in history as one of the greatest performances of all time!

and Imagine, and Imagine?
Blimey mate, you make it sound like it was something not actually that important.
It has regularly topped polls all over the world as being the greatest song ever written, whereas Tom Jones didn't even write his own hits.
In terms of your original criteria ... talent, star power and longevity, Lennon completely blows Tom Jones out of the water, most people outside of the UK wouldn't even know he is.
And that's not to say that a solo Lennon only had one song. Happy Christmas War is Over, Instant Karma, Jealous Guy, Woman, Working Class Hero, Whatever Gets You Through the Night etc. etc. are all 24 carat monster songs of the highest caliber.

I’m in the minority I’m sure that absolutely hates imagine. Surprised there’s no Bob Marley shouts yet. Although he isn’t my scene either. But you can’t deny his musical legacy
