The fans were amazing and I’m delighted to be proven wrong on this one. My comments on this thread were off the back of a depressing trip to Cardiff where it did feel as flat as I can remember but whether it was SJW’s rally call or whatever the atmosphere yesterday was what we’ve missed and it definitely spurred the players on. Let’s keep it going lads and lasses.

Personally at the point where I just want see the Coates family go no matter what. Until they arrived we had never played tier 3(proper) footy in our history, we are now facing it for the third time all under their guidance. You are correct though if we get relegated he will still be here and nothing will change no matter what division we are in, we will still start next season with 2 or 3 central defenders in the squad, 0 or 1 left/right back as we seemingly don't have anybody at the club who can count under their leadership and god knows who as the manager and with the usual weird and wonderful things going on in the background. If they were to take over at Villa in their current state, 4 or 5 British managerial punts later they would be in our position - do we have anything to lose should they leave? Warnock would have been a desperation appointment possibly worth a shot as for the others mentioned I would have been horrified if Sam or McCarthy would have been brought in. We could have a look, for a manager, at the other 190+ countries that exist outside of the UK - I mean in the 21st century it ought to be an option - not for our dinosaurs though. Problem is when the only pool you are choosing from is small and lacks quality then when you start getting down to your 3rd or 4th choice you end up taking massive risks on managers, we end up having to google, with zero experience at this level - why the fans & press don't call them out more for their xenophobia is beyond me. In SS we trust tonight then - the players are running around for him that is for sure. Do we think he picked that team? Like to see him stick with the back 4 and having four players who are comfortable in defence - injuries allowing and if we have 4 defenders to choose from. If all the players in front of that back 4 can stay fit and hit form then we have a bit of talent in there at this level and a bit of hope, need to get Baker and Laurent playing well in more games than not - that has never been easy though. If you are going to have a good winge, at least get your facts right. We played in "tier 3 (proper)" back in 1926/27 and while Peter Coates is knocking on a bit, I don't think even he is that old! That was Division 3 North - by proper I mean combined not split - but well googled

That was Division 3 North - by proper I mean combined not split - but well googled Didn't need to google it. I thought every Stoke fan knew we had spent 1 season outside the Top 2 Divisions in the 1920s, but obviously not. It certainly got referenced often enough the last time we were down there. Were we in Division 1 (Tier 1)? No. Were we in Division 2 (Tier 3)? No Therefore we were in Tier 3! Splitting into Division 3 North & South just meant that that there wasn't a 4th Division not that the 3rd Divisions weren't "proper"!
