Foul-mouthed Jo Brand is the worst of all. She's neither funny nor intelligent. She has nothing remotely amusing or interesting to say. Why is she even on TV? Apparently she trained as a nurse. All I know is that if I woke up in hospital and saw her face I would run a mile. Get her off the TV for good.

Stand up comedy is a very difficult art form. Do you stand there telling jokes that aren’t always seen as funny or do you stand up and relate exaggerated life stories. Of course comedy is very subjective but, for me, it's the latter and Billy Connelly is the best at it. If anybody has watched him tell the story of the dwarf on a bus you’ll know why. Have a look…..
Apologies to any dwarf members of the board.

Arthur Smith is another one trading on the "I was part of the alternative comedy scene 40 years ago" brigade

I'm off to see Frank Skinner at the Gielgud theater tonight, of all the comedians he is somehow the most relatable to me.
Maybe its because he is my generation and has similar life experiences, for Stoke read WBA.
I feel relaxed in his company since he is soft spoken and under stated, but he has a devastating comic genius when he takes it up a gear.
Just my opinion.

Yeah I’ve seen Frank a few times - understated is a very good description, clever too - you feel like you could actually have a pint with him. I also witnessed Jenny Eclair last night, she was just embarrassing, I don’t understand how a human being can believe that any of that exaggerated shite she displayed is in any way amusing. The one that really boils my piss though, is that Rosie whateverhernameis. She popped up on the Last Leg last night and I had to turn over - I’m completely for equal opps etc etc, but she has zero fucking talent and is literally everywhere.

Eclair was all over the scene in the early 1980s and probably starts every anecdote with "as Ben once said to me" or "while I was gigging with Rik and Ade at the Wah Wah club in 82" Didnt realise she was still going As for female comediennes, I will always have time for French and Saunders.
Love to see Ronnie Ancona and Doon Machkikan(?) appear every now and then, always appreciate their work, they were both Comic strip graduates and Doon is in all sorts of stuff right up to Toast and Alan Partridge. She was in Nathan Barley which was years ahead of its time and had a 'stars of the future' vibe to the cast (Julian Barrat, Benedict Cucumber=patch, Ben Whishaw)

Whilst we're at it Rab C Nesbitt needs a rerun somewhere. He'd be posting on here if they re-booted it.

As someone else mentioned Sally Philips is funny as well, along with the other two from Smack the Pony - Fiona Allen and Sarah Alexander. I've seen some hilarious comedians (male and female) at local comedy clubs, but I don't find too many recent, mainstream comedians funny at all, female or otherwise. When people as painfully unfunny as Jenny Eclair and Matt Rife can make it big I don't think there's much hope for anyone who's actually funny.
