Eclair was all over the scene in the early 1980s and probably starts every anecdote with "as Ben once said to me" or "while I was gigging with Rik and Ade at the Wah Wah club in 82" Didnt realise she was still going As for female comediennes, I will always have time for French and Saunders. Love to see Ronnie Ancona and Doon Machkikan(?) appear every now and then, always appreciate their work, they were both Comic strip graduates and Doon is in all sorts of stuff right up to Toast and Alan Partridge. She was in Nathan Barley which was years ahead of its time and had a 'stars of the future' vibe to the cast (Julian Barrat, Benedict Cucumber=patch, Ben Whishaw) Love Doon, and French and Saunders too! As someone else mentioned Sally Philips is funny as well, along with the other two from Smack the Pony - Fiona Allen and Sarah Alexander. I've seen some hilarious comedians (male and female) at local comedy clubs, but I don't find too many recent, mainstream comedians funny at all, female or otherwise. When people as painfully unfunny as Jenny Eclair and Matt Rife can make it big I don't think there's much hope for anyone who's actually funny. Sally was always good yes, even when in dross like Bridget Jones (which is worth a watch, the first one anyway, for Bridget) Never saw smack the Pony but might give it a go - only just getting around to Toast of London Honourable mention for Morwena Banks as well, long time collaborator of Steve Coogan. Never seen her do stand up but great character actress

It's not just her, I find modern day "comedians" absolutely shit who the fuck are those two arseholes now doing some F1 bollocks a wonky eyed pillock and a buck toothed divvy not funny in anyway at all fuck me sideways how do they make money I'll never know I fancy them both already, photos please Think he's referring to 'Rob & Romesh' mate, so no photos please though personally I do find them rather amusing as a double act. As for Ms Eclair, I've always found her to be a 'less funny' Su Pollard if you can imagine such a thing !

Good few years back went to the Machynlleth comedy festival which at best was bang average and on the performers list was Sarah Millican 'trialling' some of her new material, it comes to something when you're upstaged by a local bloke dressed as a banana bringing the house down with his gags.

to be fair there's a few modern* male comedians that are about as funny as shitting in your own hand
Off the top of my head, Ross Noble, Alan Cummings, Alan Carr, Alan Davies.
all of those ones called Russell (Howard, Kane, Brand)
*modern - I realise that the hilarious fellows above havent written anything new since 2019, which is when I turned the TV off completely

The only thing remotely funny Jenny Eclair has been involved in is when she posted a "please will someone think of the landlords" tweet (she's a landlord) after mortgage rates went up and got the piss ripped out of her mercilessly.........

Generally I don’t think men ‘get’ female comedians tbh The reasons for that I will leave to the psychologists in the house. But alot of my female friends have quite long lists of female comedians they enjoy, but in my experience it’s rare for blokes to like them equally. It’s a female perspective. No idea about the comedian in question though. I avoid TV comedy but I think Diane Morgan (Cunk) is brilliant and Caroline Aherne was one of the best comedy writers of all time.

Amy Schumer used to be funny, don't know about recent stuff.
Jenny Eclair has never been funny. The one who took over QI is she supposed to be a comedian?
I tend to only watch Stewart Lee, loving and loathing the lefty liberal twat at the same time! 😂
"It's just a joke, like on Top Gear!"

Lee is either loved or hated, I think he’s head and shoulders above the rest personally. Never mind a lack of funny women I don’t think there’s that many really funny men on the comedy scene either……

I'm off to see Frank Skinner at the Gielgud theater tonight, of all the comedians he is somehow the most relatable to me. Maybe its because he is my generation and has similar life experiences, for Stoke read WBA. I feel relaxed in his company since he is soft spoken and under stated, but he has a devastating comic genius when he takes it up a gear. Just my opinion. I was there, did you enjoy it?

Oh wow, yes I did, I think he tells a great story and I feel comfortable in his presence. How did you find it? Yes, he’s been really poorly as well this week. Seen him a couple of times, Portsmouth years ago when he was still relatively new and he was absolutely superb, easily one of the best comedian performances I've ever seen. Years later in Cambridge he was still very good but it felt like he'd lost a bit of 'edge' - hopefully he's regained it. His autobiography is outstandingly laugh out loud funny 😄
