This club desperately needed the summer window to provide a solid base to build from - more than likely UK based.
Unfortunately we went for a scattergun approach for bits and pieces players from here there and everywhere. With the honourable exception of Burger it’s been a bit of a disaster.

It’s not the foreign route, it’s just bad recruitment in general.
Only signing one proper left back is madness, making that one signing an injury prone crock is sheer lunacy.
Knowing all that and still not signing a fucking left back in the January window is just straight up negligence.
That alone is enough to see heads roll, never mind the bollocks recruitment like Johnson etc.

Constructing a 'foreign' vs 'British' divide is silly, isn't it? These days, every single squad in the top two divisions of English football has squads with plenty of both. If you only shop in one market, you are actively limiting yourself for no reason.
Stoke City have fucked it because Stoke City have recruited poorly. Clubs like Brighton, Brentford, Hull (who have a few Turkish and African players) have recruited well relative to their budgets and are reaping the rewards.
Having a go at 'the foreign players' stinks of 2018 when players like Adam and Crouch didn't exactly cover themselves in glory either.
Bit daft to say 'our two best players are foreign but foreign recruitment hasn't worked' because those two players are living, breathing proof that it can work if you bloody do it properly.

There’s nothing wrong with foreign recruitment.
It’s just harder to get right and needs more knowledge and competence than is available to us.
The myth that’s it’s the easy route to good value quality players has blown up right in our chops.

We need to recruit someone who know more about overseas players - a foreign manager perhaps - to improve our chances to a) find good prospects and b) play them in the right way ……..so not coming across as xenophobic at all, just an observation on our current recruitment team malaise…..

That doesn't mean one approach has failed, the recruitment has full on failed. |
