McNally is decent, first choice if fit, and we would be mad to not keep him for the rest of the season. - Stopped reading after this. McNally is incredibly over rated. I am extremely unimpressed by him. He’s a better option at CB than Wilmot or Rose, which isn’t saying a lot, but take McNally out of the squad and we are weaker at the back. If I was building a team from scratch I wouldn’t pick any of our defenders aside from Junior, but I think we have to make the best of the current options until the end of the season, perhaps with one addition. We can’t completely change the defence in the next week or two.

Only 3 teams have scored less than us so I guess he wants to do something about that. We are poor in defence, countless mistakes. Sort the defence, and no more Thompson and Johnson filling in at LB We've conceded less goals than numerous teams in the top half. So unless you have a particularly defensive fetish I can't see how it would be a priority.

I don’t get this one, more than enough quality players in midfield. He’s got 5 goals and 6 assists for Argyle which none of our current midfielders are even remotely close to. He’s young, full of energy and knows exactly how Schumacher plays and what is expected of him. It’s a no brainer.

My own take on this is if we're going to be a team that plays on the front foot, this starts from defense. McNally and Rose just don't move the ball forward quick enough. Go back and look just before Thompson got sent off the other week. Rose has the ball and yards of space in front of him so what does he do? plays it sideways/backwards putting Thompson under pressure. From what I've seen and heard of Schuey, I don't think he's going to tolerate this for long anyway.

Yeah OK then scoring less goals is mainly a problem with the defence Should have realised it was McNally and Rose's fault and not Mmaee, Wesley and Gayle being shit CF's

I don’t get this one, more than enough quality players in midfield. How many chances do these 'quality midfielders' create? How many goals have they scored? I would imagine his five goals and six assists in sixteen starts is more than our entire midfield have produced in the season up till now

Fwiw I think we all know Wesley and Gayle are shit but there's a player there in Mmaee. And if you need my point explaining, a defense that hangs on to the ball rather than moving the ball quickly and decisively, is hampering the team opening up the oppositions defence. How many times have we seen all ten men behind the ball with Stoke trying to walk it through them because we just don't pass and move quick enough from back to front. I reckon this is what Schuey is seeing and will try to put right either with or without the current CB's

Slightly off topic Quite a few posters questioning why there's no option attached to loan deal. To me it feels like the club are backing Steve with his preferred players but on short term agreements or loans if that player falls short of data driven process (which seems to have taken over recently). Would this be close to what's happening now. If so it's a massive step forward for this club.

Smart bit of business, even for both parties if it works out. Prove our data - yeah I like it.

There's always room to improve our defence but our main problem is that we almost never score a goal from open play.
The consequence is if we concede even one goal then we are unlikely to win and may well lose.
For this reason I think the priority is to work out how we might score a goal or two.
It would also help our league position and in turn start to get some kind of feel good factor back.

You should always look to improve all areas when an opportunity presents itself but problems have to be prioritised and many of our fans and managers seem to keep wanting to prioritise the wrong problem and try to mitigate our low scoring by becoming unrealistically good at defending. When a data set like a league table is screaming out at you that you’re not scoring anywhere near enough goals to progress toward your targets it’s probably best to try to remedy the problem highlighted instead of a source of irrational irritation ie conceding a very respectable number of goals but believing if you could just concede even less your obvious problem would solve itself.

Anyone know who the player was handing his, I think orange bib back to training staff, in the latest training video?.Didn't recognise him and that bit of the video seems to have been edited out?

The stats tell us our defence is better than our attack, neither are great though!

It isn't that our strikers are missing chance after chance - we are not creating chances in the first place and that's because the midfield aren't getting up the pitch to support the strikers. If you want to play attacking football your defence actually has to be be better than it needs to be to play defensive football because the defence is going to be exposed more as a result of the midfield committing to attack and the midfield aren't supplement the defence as much. If Schumacher wants to play attacking football his first priority has to be to sort out our flakey defence so that we can play in the front foot without getting caught out at the back. Just chucking a new striker on there won't make a blind bit of difference because as it stands they won't get the service.

Willmott moves the ball quicker than Rose (not difficult) and McNally, so I'd expect him to continue to feature alongside a new, dominant centre back. Cundle will hopefully add more zip in midfield and dovetail well with Burger and Bae. I'm not his biggest fan, but I'd welcome back Tyrese too if we're not successful with a new striker.

Yes, of course, but it looks like he's running his contract down and I'd question whether he'll ever fulfil the potential he had and has shown glimpses of. As much as I don't want him to leave for nothing, I'll happily welcome in a new forward of Schumacher's choosing.

You’re talking like our midfield have all been sitting back protecting the defence it simply isn’t true. We’ve seen plenty of the midfielders on the ball in and around the opposition box Johnson, Burger, Laurent, Junho, they just haven’t produced much in the way of output. Even so In fact Burger and Johnson have scored more/as many as our CF’s. We only became mega negative when AN was getting into the territory where he was more concerned with trying to keep his job than win a game. Simple fact is many of the forward/creative players just aren’t good enough and you defence fetishists just can’t see anything other than defence must come first. Anyway no matter how loud you squeal I don’t like your chances of the head coach sharing your priorities. I see our defence being based mainly around our current defenders. Chucking a new CF in will make a big difference being as our current best option is dozy, bone idle, lacking aggression, lacking in anticipation, slow of foot reaction and mind. Really the odd nice touch just doesn’t cut the mustard when it’s connected to the rest of the package. But you just keep dreaming of 4 new CB’s😂

The last 2 have played him pretty consistently when fit I’d be surprised if this one didn’t too. Quite simply he’s our best forward player. It’s a section of the fans who have a problem with Campbell.

Very true Godders We don't conceded a large amount of goals as someone highlighted the other day but they often cost us as you say. We do as much damage as Vanessa Feltz at a salad bar up the other end so a goal conceded usually costs us the points and the defence and keeper are over targeted. Despite the better football so far we haven't added the goals but early days Perhaps we need to gel 😉 Difference is I think we will come good this time , really like Schumacher , what a refreshing change he is
