Doesn’t matter what talent you have if the desire and mental strength isn’t there. These two are total shrinking violets, may do ok in a powerful dominant team that does all the dirty work for them but shocking in a team that has to scrap and fight to gain dominance. It rubs off on team mates as well, you work fucking hard to win the ball back and play forwards only to see it coming straight back plus either of those two whinging rather than battling. They need shipping off and replacing if they can’t find a mast battling side to their psyche.

2 goals in half a season. He was injured for 2 and a half months of it. From a player.. Mmaee is really good but should play as a 10 not out and out. A very clever player. Vidigals start surprised him as he never looked that type of player.

I’m not sure it really tells the full story though. There are few players around like Fuller who can regularly make goals out of seemingly nothing - and even he played up top with Sidibe who occupied the CB’s with his physicality. Whoever plays up front in this side struggles to score goals - and the way we are set up and the lack of creativity makes me think even top top quality strikers would struggle. I think Brown did ok because he was a tremendously hard working player (but very limited technically), and was also quite strong and reasonably quick. If we want to progress and become contenders in this division we are better off with players like Mmaee, we just need to set up to provide service and potentially bring in one or two attacking midfielders / a mobile target man. We need to give the new players a bit of time, especially the ones from overseas. I don’t think Mmaee should be leading the line as the main man - he should be an impact sub until he’s adjusted - we have Gayle and Wesley - two experienced forward with plenty of experience in England and both on big money. Wesley for me has been a big let down and was extremely poor recruitment from AN. Hopefully we can bring a new striker in in January to share the load

As it stands both Mmaee and Vidigal are looking pretty poor. Their rolling around on the floor antics are particularly annoying. Jacob Brown looked like a world beater compared to these pair and they need to up their game considerably. It is a sad situation where I would prefer Brown to absolutely any of our current front players. What he lacked in skill, he at least tried to make up for in effort. Unfortunately they are not alone, I don't see skill or effort from any of our current crop of front players and others and was really expecting so much more from the likes of Mmaee, Vidigal, Leris, Johnson et al. What a complete disappointment our front line recruitment,in particular, has been. Maybe 5 or 6 maximum (and that's being generous) of the total 19 summer and later influx looking anything like they could do a good job for us. My 5 or 6 being Gooch, Burger, Junho, Junior, Pearson, when he isn't getting stupid unnecessary bookings and also McNally (loan and likely to be recalled in January) most of the time, when he isn't having brain farts like he did today. Where did it all go so wrong? Probably agree with those 5 or 6, but even they have just been acceptable at this level and not much more for me. We really are up shit creek if McNally goes back - I make that 1 viable fit central defender in the squad if that were to happen and you just know this clueless lot would not bring in anybody come the window to replace him. 24pts from 23 games is relegation form, 4 or 5pts from the last 9 games is bottom of the table form and we are not here because we have a great squad of players. We have now brought in a young manager with virtually no experience at this level as player or manager(or even as a manager full stop) to try and sort out what is a calamitous club from top to bottom - you really couldn't write this stuff. We have to look deeper than the manager/head coach or whatever he is called these days - the current setup has relegation written all over it and I have zero hope that this is the correct manager for the current situation or that we are capable of bringing in the players needed to keep the club from a relegation battle - changes needed from the top down.

Mmaee is used in a unfamiliar position it looks like to me. He's not a no.9, you can see that he always looks for passing opportunities. I think he'll come good. Vidigal is neither quick nor especially good at dribbling. I don't see what he has to offer at the moment. He was poor yesterday bar a few nice touches/moments. You can see he has clear and obvious quality when he’s in the box, we just don’t get it to him there enough. He does need to learn how to use his body and hold the ball up. He should have scored, no argument about that, but as you say, we're poor setting him up as well. He's isolated against two brute wrestlers (they certainly aren't footballers!), trying to do something with the ball until someone arrives to help him. The clearest moment we could see this was when Burger turned and played it to him and there wasn't any Stoke player within 40 yards of him so he had to shoot from 20 yards.

The argument that Mmaee hasn't had the chances or the service doesn't quite cut because when he has had it, he has not looked like he knows where to put the ball, like when he was put clean through in the last game he just blasted it straight at the goalie when he had time to think about it and the penalty which was a miserable attempt with no conviction at all. You could tell from his body language in both cases that he was never going to score. Could be lack of confidence which might change with a goal, but you just want to see some sign of a strikers' instinct there. I hope it does change and I'm glad to hear some people think he's got it in him.

We haven't put out a settled side really. Millwall can for a draw. I'm sure they'll both do better in a more open game.

I’d be a hell of a lot more concerned if Mmaee was missing chances by the boatload. The fact is he’s not because generally the service into him is shockingly bad. The few chances he gets he generally creates himself. He’s also been asked to play a lot with his back to goal as a hold up man, which clearly isn’t his strength but he’s often able to link play when it’s goes to his feet.
He is, however, going to struggle against the likes of Cooper for Millwall when the ball is launched up to him in the air and there’s not a teammate within 20 yards. No surprise really. I think he’s shown enough to be given time to see if Schumacher’s approach will result in more opportunities for him to get on the end of high value chances.
Vidigal is clearly not fully match fit/sharp after that nasty ankle injury. Needs more time and a tap in to rebuild confidence. Let’s see what Schumacher can do with him over the next few weeks. There’s a player in there, just needs building back up.

I've been reading this thread wondering how I'm so out of step with everyone else it seems. Apparently Mmaee is shit. But the player I'm watching is really impressing me. He has great balance. Can beat a player. Competes for the ball when just smacked up in his general direction. Some of his layoffs yesterday were class. 90% of the rest of the time he was being assaulted (the ref gave quite few free-kicks but no yellows from recollection). Yes, he's taking a few too many touches when in front of goal. The manager can work on that. The goal against Sunderland shows what he can do when he acts decisively. No doubt I'll get loads of shit for saying anything positive about him, but frankly I'll be pissed off if the club doesn't give him a chance to succeed. On praise and grumble some were moaning about his lack of clinical finishing and advocating a switch with Wesley. Yes....Wesley. I think that there is definitely a decent player in there. He has good technical ability and looks one on the most likely players to actually create something. The problem he has is that this is the Championship and every week he is going to be coming up against big, burly, non-nonsence central defenders who will not give him an inch. He looks very weak and is consistently physically out-muscled. Maybe he will come good with time? However, I do have my doubts about whether he is capable of playing as a lone striker. Maybe he would be better coming from a wider position? I don't like him playing as a lone striker either. He effectively has to play a game that doesn't suit him, fighting with big hairy arsed centre halves. When he gets the ball in front of him and faces up those same defenders he looms quality and has the advantage. We need to play to his strengths.

A bit worrying that Schumacher thinks Mmaee was brilliant yesterday. He’s why we are not a threat up front. Maybe if he played alongside a target man he might be better, but feigning injury , not tackling back just making a token effort and he did lose the ball every time it was played up to him. I’m not convinced we have a striker in him. Typical foreign powder puff frightened of getting stuck in player, im afraid. He didn't lose every ball played up to him. Not even close. He laid off plenty and was given a number of free kicks (unless you count being fouled as having lost the challenged - I think the opposite). He consistently went into challenges where he was likely to get wiped out in a challenge. Not sure the purpose of the "typical foreign" comment. Its not the 1950s.

I just wonder whether playing him as a winger, or even as a #10, might play more to his strengths. I just think that wrestling with central defenders every weekend is a hopeless task and will never get the be out of him. I am not a massive fan of Big Wes, but I do think that playing him down the middle and letting Mmaee, Vidigal, and Jun-Ho work off/around him would be more productive than our current set up.

Or maybe he’s just publically backing the only real striker we option to give him some confidence whilst he’s low on confidence and adapting to his second manager in a new league. Why would he do that. He wasn't asked specifically about Mmaee but thought he merited a special mention for the way he played. He was on his own for 90 minutes had two of our better efforts both of which he created for himself. He never stopped running and covered the whole width of the pitch. Apart from not scoring made him terrible yesterday? Because Mmaee is our only real striking option so he’s going to want to get the best out of him isnt he. He did give possession away a number of times yesterday, granted he was on his own competing with 2CB and he did go down too easy probably 3/4 times. Edit - I’ve already said earlier, yesterday wasn’t the game to be judging our strikers.

According to the oatcake experts every player we have from Goalkeeper centre forward is crap.
Truth is they're not and they've hardly broke the Bank.
If you want an example of crap players look no further than Mudryk and Anthony who cost a fortune and would struggle in the championship

Both of them are physically lacking and constantly whinging on the floor instead of putting that effort into the game. Agree to some extent re: Vidigal, think we rushed him back and he's suffering under expectations of his first few weeks. He is however, not exactly covering himself in glory...

While I agree we should be playing 4-2-3-1, it'll be interesting to see what excuses get brought out for Mmaee when he looks pants in that system as well. If Schumacher thought he played well today then I'm already very concerned. Hopefully blowing smoke up his arse to try to get some confidence into him. If not yeah fookin hell excellent he was not. Telling him he was well below average might not do the trick though the staff will know the players character and advise accordingly. If I told him what I really thought he might do something silly.
