ted1965 and his excellent plea for more smiles has prompted me to suggest a new "firm". Its membership would be confined to those of us that have endured this misery for over half a century. We could be called The Nifty 50. And we'd scare the bejayzus out of fans across the land - who would shudder in fear at the prospect of us banging on about the price of stamps and how all modern music sounds the same.* Any takers? (* Which it generally does btw).

First game Everton Feb 1970: a 0-0 draw if I recall. Does that qualify? If so, count me in.

I'm in...if supporting Stoke from distance over the past 50+ years counts.
The thread of disappointment runs just as painfully through my years in Scotland, London, and for the past 20 years, Asia.

You're in. Our boy in Sri Lanka perhaps? The fact that you've moved several thousand miles to distance yourself from the pantomime is more than sufficient.

Is this 50 years from first game? It is. Although unless you can produce a programme from that game, and "Football League Review" insert, your membership may be provisional.

It's been Bangkok for the past 12 years str8outta... The fact that the 7 hour time difference means I lose out on a night's kip every midweek game just adds to the misery.

Well I definitely qualify. My first match was October 1952. My memory was of a 3-0 defeat but I have just checked and it was a 3 -1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday. I hadn’t a clue what was going on and was confused as to why a team was called Wednesday when it was a Saturday !! I went with an older boy who lived next door, I was five years old.

I think you possibly qualify as the N50 leader. Unless "the older boy" is still with us... However, can I just check - do you shout at bins and hedges? And when you watch a thriller/drama on telly (eg Vigil) do you say out loud, even if there's no-one else in the room, "I have literally no idea wtf is going on"? If so, you're probably our head honcho

A 'top boy'? Can I have a nickname like some of the legendary N40 then? You can call me Gumby. That's Mister Gumby to you, sunshine.
