Off the field Stoke City have done many many excellent things in the past and of late. They've frozen ticket prices again (17th year!!) Free away travel Building a fan zone Moving the away fans Supporters involved in designing the kit The list goes on They are not going g to get everything correct nor do everything that is universally popular, so with that I'm mind I won't join in knocking the club that does a lot more good than bad Well said !!! Well said?...I fucking despair. This is not the club offering the fans to chose a shade of red in the strip....this is a young girls career / livelihood destroyed through a game of football for stoke city...for a club that has more money than sense

correct , it’s down to the player and they will know that , but ppl like to beat the club over nothing It shouldn't be down to the players though that's the point. The owners either need to run the women's team properly or wind it up and stop pretending they give a shit, and let those involved find clubs with owners that do. But whatever people's thoughts on the women's game are, the Coates family could fund a really successful WSL team for a relative pittance that would be great for all aspiring female footballers in the area and leave a great legacy once they've gone.......... Agree and I see we are being "officially" invited (a news story in other words) to the next important game, where season ticket holders are free. It's that usual thing isn't it, if it sounds and walks like a duck, then it's duck. This is a professional football team and should be supported like any other. Pull your finger out Stoke and sort this out.

And on this occasion it's record is shambolic.

It's just not a good look. But hey ho, we get to choose what sort of red we can have on the kit.
I've said this before and will say it again, if the Lionesses hadn't had their success I could have easily seen the club try to scrap the women's team. They make it look like they're forced to go along with 'ladies football'.

“I can’t walk or work because of my injury that I picked up playing for Stoke City”
“Yes but have you considered they’re building a fanzone”

Personal injury solicitors will be all over this like a rash as if she can show Stoke haven't provided the necessary insurances, or clearly communicated the the players need to buy their own, then they’re getting sued for negligence all day long.
The only way they’re not is if the annual contract specifically states the requirement and Stoke ask for proof of said insurance before they’re allowed to play so they can evidence the player is at fault. Even so it would not be a good look especially if the blokes teams are all insured then that would be a fucking massive can of worms.
Club just need put their hand in their pocket and sort this one out then give themselves a bloody good shake in the background because it could have been a hell of a lot worse – imagine if one of the women had suffered an Erikson and then it became public knowledge our ladies team possibly plays uninsured or with uninsured players!!

Hard to know how we've allowed this situation to develop to this stage. On contrary FM, based on the regularity we hear about poor practices on the women's side of the club...it's very much on brand.

It's that usual thing isn't it, if it sounds and walks like a duck, then it's duck. This is a professional football team and should be supported like any other. Pull your finger out Stoke and sort this out. As I recall, they were amateur until this season , when the club were embarassed into providing £500,000 to enaable them to go semi professional. As regards having a very successful WSL team, Arsenal were funding their ladies with £6m a year as well as picking up their share of the £14m loss that the WSL made. How many English players do the top 3 women's teams play every week? Some legacy. There are 12 fully professional clubs in the WSL. If each has a squad of 25 players then there are jobs for 300 women playing in the League. If half of them are being taken by players from all over the World, and the other half are mainly poorly paid, would you encourage your daughter to aspire to a football career. It will be interesting to see how things go next year when the WSL takes over the running of the game fron the F.A.

What crowds do our women's team get? 20k to an amateur women's footballer. We aren't a charity. Regardless of how much Money we have.

I think, now that it has been brought to the club's attention, that she will be looked after. But this begs the question: How much in Investment/subsidies should be committed by all clubs to grow the Ladies game. The last figures I have seen for the WSL , showed an income of £32m (about the same as Stoke) with at least £10 of that provided by Men's Clubs. In addition, the men picked up the £14m loss they made. So, about £24M out of the £46M it cost to run the league was given as a subsidy. If you want a Professional Championship, then you are probably talking about needing at least another £14M a year. Would anyone object to giving the WSL £50M a year, for the next 10 years, from the TV money and give them a decent chance to grow the game? I think they deserve at least that opportunity.

I would imagine the ladies team and the location or quality of their pitch these last few sesonswould come under the leadership of the person running football matters at stoke city....

It all depends on what was agreed on weather we like it or not, I'm not saying it's right but the club would of outlined just what exactly they'd be putting into the venture.

This shouldn't be a one-off PR stunt, this should a club-wide policy that sees everyone treated the same. Over 12 months now, and they still play at the bombsite that is Norton United (as do one academy team) and it really isn't a great look after going semi-pro last year.

Another game at Norton called off tonight. Really isn’t good enough, as pointed out by the National media last year Wouldn't have helped with a downpour an hour before the game. A lot of U18/21 games have been called at CW this winter. Been a wet one even league clubs are only catching up Just why are academy games being played at a ground that is pretty awful? Why not have it at CW or on the astro at CW? Maybe play it at a local non-league ground that has 3G or a school or college with 3G, guaranteeing the game. Any number of games have been called off at Norton in the last few months - it simply is not fit for purpose for a professional football club.

They aren't professionals. It's surely no different to if I broke my leg playing on a sunday? They'll be contracted mate and in the contract it must state that no medical bills due to injury will be footed by the club then? You can't willingly sign a contract, then cause a massive uproar when something like this happens just because it's a multi-million pound football club. My mate at work fell in his back garden last week, broke his leg and ruptured ligaments, is going to be off work for 8-12 weeks and will only receive stat sick pay. It's just the way it is sometimes, he's not moaning about it because he knew when he too the job that we don't pay sick pay.

I'd be amazed if it says that to be honest as even an under 8 academy player gets sorted after an injury. Even if it doesn't, questions need to be asked why semi-professional footballers aren't insured by clubs giving contracts when they work elsewhere. Non-league do.

The one thing that this club has is money - but we often overlook key things. I know it can't spend it on players, but we simply should not be playing matches at Norton United under any circumstances, and player welfare has to be 100% spot on.

Yeah they probably should but if they don't and the players will know this when they sign, I'm sorry you can't come begging if/when you get injured, you knew the risks, just like anybody that has played sunday football down the years has. From reading her post, the issue is the NHS, not the club. Yet people have jumped on the bandwagon and using it as another stick to beat the club with. If they haven't broken contract, then they've done nothing wrong in this case.

Imagine a prospective talented girl seeing this though - do you think she'll sign for us or a rival? "We are semi-pro, but we play at a joke of a stadium and you're not covered medically" isn't a great advertisement. I'll be honest, when I signed my lad's academy forms, I didn't even look at insurance as it's expected, surely?

AFter the awful PR disaster of the national media exposing the weaknesses of SCFC's women's structure last year, you would expect absolutely every single micro-detail to be in place, and money spent accordingly to do this. Indeed, we aren't talking a substantial amount. Where they play and if they are medically covered are surely two huge questions that would have been sorted straight away? Most of the women's squad live a fair distance away, so its staggering that cover isn't provided along with a raft of other logistical offerings?

Amazes me that we play in an area thats not Stoke territory. Surely Newcastle town would be far better, or as mentioned CW.
