It was away to Wolves, I'm sure, I was there! 😜 So was I, in the paddock with my mates from school.Pockets of Stokies everywhere. Finished 2-2. Mayhem afterwards on the walk back to the station, especially around the area of the infamous subway.

I can very very vaguely remember the table on Grandstand and we were top.
I think had only ever been to one game but very snug for the rest of the week at school. I assumed was the start of things to come, oh well

Possibly the most overrated keeper to have played the game............ He was a great keeper and like all over his long career you can pick out mistakes over the dozens and dozens of great moments Without doubt the best save ever saw was Shilton v Ferguson of Coventry

I'll rephrase then and say one of the most overrated I've seen live as from the mid 80's onwards he was largely crap. Got way too may caps out of sentimentality for England in the end........

Do you really think Brian Clough would have signed a goalkeeper who was not up to it? As much as I loved him there was a reason why Alan Hudson never became a Manager

I think he was the best they had by quite a distance even later in his career. Wasn't really anyone challenging him to be No1 Woods was good but no more. He was far from crap, was the keeper in the World for a time for me. Was fantastic at Forest

Farmer was doing a perfectly sound job, we needed a striker, Waddo bought Shilton.

No, it was away, the game you are thinking of was a few months later, Pejic broke his leg during that one as well, both games finished 2 all.

More interesting was the occasion that Shilts was porking someones missus in his Jag, husband arrived on the scene, Shilts panicked and tried to drive off with his kecks around his ankles and crashed into a lamppost, twas in all the papers.

I was at Uni, listening to the radio. My memory tells me that it was an away game and we scored a late goal to send us top.

If we had kept with Farmer and bought a striker I think we would have won the league that season, but who knows. Great keeper but I think after that first season he wanted to move on. His best period was definitely at Forest.

Yes, I was there too, with my dad. I was only 7 years old but still remember those days quite clearly. Remember the bell ringing lady from Man City ?! I was also on Match of the Day around those times, my dad lifted me to sit on top of one of the dugouts in the Boothen Paddock. Their cameras captured me sat there 😀 Happy times and memories but we have also had some since and hopefully more to come in the not too distant !!

His attempts to save penalties were as if he still had his kecks around his ankles. No one would have hit near those German penalties for example. He saved England on plenty.of occasions including a few times in that German semi ,say His performance v Hamburg in the Euro final was fantastic as it was most games for them To say he wasn't up to it in general is absolute nonsense

Not that it matters but I think you need to do some homework there Was little between them in terms of ability
