Fair point, I wasn't suggesting we bring him on when he isn't recovered or bring him on to early. Young players need nurturing and I trust successive managers over us oatcake posters to know what’s best for them and more importantly Stoke city fc You must be the one undying Alex Neil fan in the world. I wouldnt trust Neil to ever take any interest in what's good for young players.

They have a plan to build strength and resilience into him and I’m sure they’ll see it through but any thought of not playing him due to his contract situation is bonkers. The more experience he has at the highest level possible the better the compensation awarded if he leaves for another English club if he goes abroad that’s a decision for him but isn’t one you’d feel shows the most footballing ambition at the end of the day players come to clubs like us because it’s the best steppingstone and shop window for a move to the prem which is what most of them want a crack at. I’ve not said anything about not playing him due to his contract situation, so I’ve literally no idea what you are on about. Yeah don't know why I quoted you I was responding to another poster

Yeah Rooney was flogged by the time he got into his late 20s & early 30s although I’m sure there’s more factors to that then just over played and injuries. Owen is another one, I’m sure he’s spoken publicly about so much game time so young & playing when not ready had repercussion. But i might be wrong. I agree he needs to play and learn from mistakes but my point stands you can only play him when he’s fit and ready. No point him playing 3 games and breaking down again. That doesn’t help anyone. Fair point, I wasn't suggesting we bring him on when he isn't recovered or bring him on to early. Yeah I guessed that mate, but you never know some people on here would want him playing half fit and bollocks to the damage it’ll do.

If he’s not fit then you don’t risk him, that’s obvious enough but folk calling for him to play when he’s not fit is a moot point, in the meantime we have to play the others

No, he's not. He's head coach. Anyway you said, "I trust successive managers", so you were referring to Neil among others. Over oatcake posters? definitely. Still, if you know better then fair enough. Factually I do. I wouldn't trust any recent Stoke managers on their youth policy, because the only player we've had in this century that came out of the academy and went on to play a substantial amount of matches is Andy Wilkinson. Since him no one. Any other only made the odd appearence and was then sent packing. That's not exactly a healthy managerial performance and it's a waste of all the money thrown into the academy and a waste of human resources. The question is why the managers were so opposed to making use of the players, some of whom they praised in buckets in Sentinel interviews. I don't know the answer but I think they were scared. Scared of picking youngsters who would make mistakes that the manager would be held responsible for. But where you don't try you never win, and Stoke City are perennial losers when it comes to making good use of youth. Of course I hope that there will be a change of approach with a new man somewhat in charge. He seems to not want to bring in a teamful of new players, so maybe, just maybe, he will use Lowe et al for more than just a requirement on the bench. The verdict is still out...

we seem to be pinning all our hopes on Tezgel, and i hope he is the real deal but we have seen what championship football can do to players so it make or break. Liam Delap is a prime example he got a bag full for Man city in the under 21s he is not breaking any records so far at hull, i know they are young lads and may come good just don,t expect Tezgel to come in and bag us loads of goals

Is there a reason why we don’t use the development loan option more? We seem to have about 5 or so U21s that are selected regularly and play well when we do so: Griffiths, Lowe, Reddin, Tezgel and Sidibe. It’s my understanding that National League and at least the division below allow for 1-3 month loans. Surely, we could recruit scouts to watch these games and be aware of squad openings in these teams? The loan for Tommy Simkin seems to have helped his career at least.
The Championship has to be among the top 12 competitive leagues in the world of football. It’s not exactly shocking that players with no senior experience struggle when they are suddenly thrust into it.

Is it irrevocable once you change countries even at youth level? I seem to remember you only used to be able to change once before sticking with your last choice.
It wouldn't be surprising to see him leave for a bigger Turkish club, they have money and cups and European football...
We're going nowhere fast let's face it!

He doesn’t exactly look likely to progress through the England set up, does he? The older they get, the more narrow the field becomes. It’s also not like it’s binding. He can simply try out over there, see what it’s like and go back if it isn’t for him.

Denmark has had similar situations where countries as far away as Nigeria called up a Danish national, but the player (can't remember his name) turned it down. Matt Riley (Celtic) was invited by Southgate to consider England as his team, but Riley has now played for Denmark vs NI in a Euro quaslifying game , so he is lost for any UK international team. Also you can play for one country's youth teams, but another's full/grown team. You can even play for two different countries if it's friendlies. It's only when you play for a full team in a qualifying match or a world cuo/euro match that it then is binding and you can't switch back anymore. At least those were the rules last time I looked.

Or play for Turkey, in Euros and World Cups.
