85.3% success rate, just below Ben Pearson. Also has the most successful crosses per game in the squad (1.7) compared to Johnson who is 2nd (0.9) and the highest key passes per game (1.5) again Johnson is next (1.2) Those successful crosses include set pieces. Which isn't a bad thing, it's just a bit misleading. Yes and no. You have to be decent at set piece to be included. Before that, we had Hoever hitting the knees of the first defender every kick. The only person who Baker is denying opportunity to for competition there is perhaps Thompson. None of the rest appear capable of a good delivery.

I’d say that stats and general consensus is proving you wrong. Not really. 83.5% accuracy (short passes) is bang average in the champinship. His long pass accuracy is even worse, at 45.9%, which is down in the 40th percentile of all players in the CS. Compare this to Pearson (86.2%, 61.6%), Burger (77.3%, 50.7%), Laurent (77.9%, 38.3%), Bae (82.2%, 46.7%) and Thompson (79.3%, 39.4%), and he's pretty average at passing. (Stats from FotMob) I wish there was a bit more detail on those. There are more and less useful long passes. And the teams that play boring side to site shite across the back 3 end up with loads of successful passes. Do love me some stats though.

Manhoef, with his left foot, taken a couple of good corners Yeah. I think he’s done well at them also. I just think that the metric is still useful when comparing what a player brings to the table. Same with penalties. I don’t think that a “non-penalty goal” stat is more useful than one that looks at all goals when comparing players. If others in the team were good enough, they’d be taking (and scoring) penalties.

None of the rest appear capable of a good delivery. That's true, but my point is that Baker dosn't really do crosses, apart from set pieces. His set pieces are good and needed, but it's a different skill getting crosses in from free play. So his successful crosses stats are somewhat inflated compared to say Gooch. You also need someone to get on the end of them both, which is our biggest problem IMO.

Yep, the total number of passes is the most useless stat of all. The "successful passes" is more useful, and "successful progressive passes" is the most useful. Not all stats sites include those, unfortunately.

I think he’s been really good on the whole since coming back.
He’s been up and down, putting his foot in, scored a few.
I’m not sure what more people want.

Baker comes back in after ages out and an upturn in form follows, we do alright, the Cundle experiment begins swapping and dropping Baker and Bae and we become a shit show again, Baker bought back in and the Cundle experiment ends, we do alright. Seems to me we are better with him for sure.
