Played himself back into contention today. There's got to have been some kind of fall out with Neil: his form dropped off a cliff last season. Have already said I can see Laurent doing the same. He was a lot better when he first joined than the player we've seen recently. Our midfield is very strong. I hate reading too much into pressers but you can tell him and Neil just didn’t get on and there was needle there as well as relief about Schumacher coming in.

You’d have to think him and Burger in the same team are going to be a nightmare for most teams who visit here once they get a couple of games together under their belt.
Both look like they’re absolutely loving life under a manager who’s mantra seems to be ‘pass it forwards’.

Must admit I’m not sure what people saw in him today, yes he worked pretty hard for the team.
I felt he was a yard off the press and always a yard off his man when defending. His free kick at the end when we really needed it was absolutely wank after he’d hyped the crowd.
Hopefully it’s just rustiness as the Baker we had on loan walks away today with a hat trick.

Thought it took him 20 mins to get going, looked a little bit lost at times and not sure who his man was but he got better as the game went on. Some glimpses of his ability came through but that was interspersed with signs of him not really playing for a while and making poor passes or poor decisions.
It’s good to have him back though. He’s like a new signing and I think he’s glad to be back playing. He’s got talent and ability & I really hope he gets back to enjoying it.

Shame all three efforts were on his left peg; if any of them were on his right I think one would have gone in.

He was a lot better when he first joined than the player we've seen recently. Our midfield is very strong. Didn't Neil say he was playing with an injury? Yes and he had a knee operation to clear it in the summer from which he has only just recovered so I think talk of a fall out is a bit presumptuous. I think he started last season under MON poorly before Neil took over. We said today he looked as if he was leaner than last year but if he wasn't able to train properly because of his knee problem he might have put on weight. Good to see him back and encouraging the crowd near the end. He didn't look like a man who didn't care.

He was good.
Looked back at it for sure. Very good to see.
And exactly the sort of player I think Schumacher will love.

His long range shooting is 7-10 a season in this side And Schumacher will realise that and use it. It feeds into the front foot, go forward and almost fuck around and find out nature of what he seems to be about.

Yeah I’m sure I’ve read this and not made it up, but aren’t his old Plymouth side top for goals outside the box?

Considering how long he's been missing, he had a good game. Goal scoring midfielder. We missed that.

Thought he was just ok tbh. He did provide a few shots from midfield which we’ve been lacking recently. Don’t particularly like him anyway and think he’s an arrogant tosser at times. I hate how he points to other players all the time telling them to mark someone he should be marking half the time. Like I said though I don’t like the bloke so I’m biased 😜

Got some shots off from midfield that we’ve been missing, but for me he wanders too much in games and goes missing at times when the opposition have the ball. I saw on numerous occasions players glide past him and him make no attempt to recover, whether that was due to his lack of fitness or not I don’t know.

Fair play it wasn't his best game but I just like Bakes, always have.
Why?? Well he has a goal in him and we need to have a midfield with goals, he does put the effort in and we all love that, and he also just does seem to look like he fucking cares...
Here's hoping he can become the player that we need in there.

For a player playing his first game back after months out against one of the best teams in the league it was a decent performance.
I think he’ll be a key player under Schumacher.
I think the midfield will generally be:
Burger Baker Bae

I think the midfield will generally be: Burger Baker Bae Think he needs to play close to goal as such it's Baker or Bae for me However there will be games, especially at home, where both can play centrally and both can get forward We have 1 too many midfielders really ideally Johnson would go and maybe Sidebe out on loan but suspect it will be one of Baker or Laurent who leaves or no one this window

At home both will have to play imo. It just makes so much sense without going to 4231 which makes more sense.

“Lewis Baker scored eight goals in 20 starts and one substitute appearance under Michael O'Neill after joining from Chelsea on a free transfer in January 2022……He scored four times in his first eight appearances of 2022/23 as O'Neill made way for Alex Neil“.
Let’s hope SS can get the best out of Baker. AN didn’t have a bloody clue how to use him.
