Thought i would give some balance to show some support to the lad, seeing as there are plenty slating the poor fella.
Good or bad he's still a Stoke player, and this opportunity has arisen where he will more than likely be playing today. So i want to say, go on Jack and do us proud.

None of this is Jack's fault. Grown adults taking out their frustrations on Bonham is not on. I hope he can use some of this negativity to fire himself up and perform well.

Pasting my comment from the other thread for a bit of objectivity:
Expected goals prevented per 90 by Stoke goalkeepers since we got relegated, which is a measure of how many more or fewer goals a keeper let in compared to how a notional āaverage keeperā would fare against the same quality of chances faced. Positive numbers indicate the keeper prevented more goals than the average. Iāve included only keepers who played 10 or more full matches:
Butland (18/19) +0.06 Davies (21/22) +0.06 Bonham (21/22) -0.04 Travers (23/24) -0.08 Bonham (22/23). -0.16 Bursik (20/21) -0.19 Davies (20/21) -0.21 Bursik (21/22) -0.23 Butland (18/20) -0.26 Bursik (22/23) -0.29
Bonus stat: Travers at Bournemouth (21/22) +0.07
Conclusions:
- Our goalkeepers have generally been pretty crap at stopping shots - Bonham has been far from the worst offender

I should add goodness knows how they arrive at it. Is someone really watching every game and marking shots 'stoppable or 'unstoppable'? And if they are it would require a value judgement? And of course shot stopping is but one element of goal keeping. Still interesting.

They work from an absolutely enormous dataset of previous shots to draw conclusions from how keepers have fared in the past against similar chances. Itās not an exact science but over a decent amount of matches it starts to tell interesting stories.

I'm more concerned about Laurent starting than Bonham.
Travers may be better but our league position and results before the last 2 games hardly suggest anything amazing.
We can win with or without Travers providing the rest of the team plays well.

He doesnāt deserve a chance though. Thatās the issue. Blimey Bayern this is a give the lad a chance thread not get the boot into him. Better not to engage. This is all about BO having the need to be proved right. Even if Bonham saved 8 penalties there would be a snide comment about failing to come for a corner.

a lottery winner to be playing professionally Heās not a first choice keeper, but heās nowhere near as bad as some are making out. Comments like this are pretty rubbish. Heās our player, heās going to be playing and this thread was set up as a more positive one. I sincerely hope the lad doesnāt read any of these comments / threads, because any confidence he might have had will be totally gone - What good is that going to be for the team?.. But then I suppose it will help to perpetuate some peopleās arguments and they can say how correct they are in stating that Bonham is āthe worst everā, āan idiotā and whatever other insults that have been flung his way in the last few hours (before heās even taken over from Travers). Give him a break!
