Don’t the blame the technology for human incompetence. VAR stands for Video Assistant Referee, IE the person who’s operating it. The technology and the human are inextricably linked and these issues are going to keep happening.

Excellent comments tonight from Frank Lampard Time for top referees to continue in that role alongside a different team of officials who specialise in VAR roles - rather than being involved on the pitch one week and at Stockley park for other games AI will make these decisions at some point 🤔?

AI already can do this, just the premier league refuses to use it.

It’s in the public interest in this case to understand how they royally fucked it up

OK I'm bored of hearing fans moaning about VAR
Here's my question are there statistically more poor decisions with VAR or without it.
I would put money on there being less and it is stopping refs giving more advantage to the so called big clubs

That and the delays it causes make me think I was happier with the totally human errors of life before VAR. The full explanation of the Liverpool offside is going to be interesting. Assuming we get a truthful account of it. Goal line technology works seamlessly. Add on the proper time wasting and I think that's enough.

Am I the only one thinking back to our 0-3 home home defeat to Liverpool a few years back when Martin Atkinson refused to send off the Liverpool keeper for a professional foul with the score at 0-0? The keeper starting to walk off the pitch then having to do an about turn when, to his pleasant surprise, Atkinson only produced a yellow card tells you all you need to know about that. Or Salah getting away with slapping Pieters in a draw at Anfield? Yes the officials and VAR got it badly wrong on Saturday but Liverpool complaining about decisions going against them is quite rich and amusing.

I think they were just trying to speed it up, without realising the lino had called it back for offside. I think they’ve rushed it given all the stick they get for the time it takes.
Feel for England a bit given his reaction as soon as he realises the mistake.
Interesting that they half wanted the game stopped after Spurs took the free kick before deciding they couldn’t.

It’s concerning that it was the “camera operator” for spotted the mistake straight away and immediately called to delay, yet the two VAR officials were oblivious to the mistake.

I was watching a Bundesliga match a little while ago I think involving Bayer Leverkusen when the game was stopped with a VAR intervention to change a decision to award a pen after they had previously looked at the same incident a few minutes before and said no foul. Not sure what you can say about that but you have hope justice was done the second time round. Maybe we need to VAR the VAR or at least allow "corrections" during but not after the game.

I mean that audio is shocking, how can you get it this wrong. Complete incompetence It is However we have not had the opportunity to listen to any other var conversions so maybe other indecisive moments happen more frequently Hopefully more accurate outcomes in the future which will be to everyone’s benefit

The way they are carrying on now its as though they've never had assistance from VAR Earlier in the year ( last season) Liverpool avoided being knocked out of the FA cup when a perfectly good goal from Wolves was disallowed Klopps comments - I can see why they are angry Wonder if we’ll get to hear the VAR conversations from that game

You want to know why I have an irrational dislike of Liverpool? Because tonight, we have witnessed one of the worst refereeing performances I've ever seen. Will 5Live cover it tomorrow? Will BBC?'
Fuck em. Dippy dip dip dippers.

Sure to this day that was a good goal they scored.

Already feeling sorry for Brighton who are at home to Liverpool this weekend Enormous and unfair pressure on the officials for this game Possibility that the HS2 decision might be more important in the north west this morning ?

The officials at the next Liverpool game will be under massive pressure and scrutiny. I feel for Brighton already but I’m sure Mr Klopp won’t do anything to exploit this situation 😮

The match should have been restarted from the point the goal went in. It should have been corrected, you can't just write off a goal because the players started playing again for a couple of minutes.
Would it really have been a problem for the ref to stop the match, have a quick word with the managers to explain the situation and then play from the point the goal went in.

Absolutely incredible. People make mistakes, I get that, but surely the official's only job is to be watching what is going on in the game? How can he not know the on field decision? They clearly rush through the decision and get it incredibly wrong.
