I have always been proud to be a Stoke fan. I’m not a Stoke lad, I was born in Stafford. My first game was in 1969 and if it wasn’t for Stoke I’d have given up on football a long time ago. I have always taken people on when they talk Stoke down. My first line of defence has always been the fans. Pride in the support has always outweighed our achievements. We are Stoke. We have put up with some shit in my 50 years. Way more than we are experiencing now. But I can’t ever recall a support so divisive, so fucking destructive and so vitriolic as this board. 10 years in the Premiership seems to have given us unrealistic expectation. We are still looking down on several bigger clubs than us. People want the Coates family out. Who the fuck they think will buy us out and invest similar money is never made clear. They want a change of manager if we don’t win at least 3 games a month. They demand we are top 6 every year. They want us to appoint managers who would likely say Stoke.. your joking aren’t you, Truth is that reading this board makes me angry. It makes me embarrassed. And seriously I don’t argue the toss with anyone any more about Stoke fans being loyal and proud. 👏👏👏 to everyone who still travels away. I hope they aren’t represented by people on here. PS. Don’t bother responding Bayern. No. I won’t fuck off up the Vale either Don’t worry mate it’s not representative. A few keyboard warriors eg Bayern who doesn’t go to away games and some other very , very negative people try to dominate the content. Luckily it isn’t representative.

Personally I'd give him this run of games to the international break. He doesn't have to win them all. Maybe even just one victory. But what he needs to show is some sparks of life and show that there is a plan in there somewhere. Currently its all over the shop. 17 players in and already we are square pegs round holes and playing different systems. Its a terrible look particularly seeing as he's been here 15 months. Vidigal7 has just made two points; 1. We should give the manager time, and successive windows to build something. 2. A season should be judged over 46 games. There's an argument for both of these. But the risk is - you are relegated whilst trying to provide continuity and stability. And right now, that feels like a real potential risk. We can't risk a relegation. That sets us back another 5 years probably. And 10k attendances. Not an option that which is why I say he's got these 4 or so games to show us he's worth backing. A win and a draw and even 2 losses where we show something is brewing. But if its 3 defeats and a draw and we look the same as last week then we have to get someone new in in my opinion.

It's true what they say, life is what happens well you're busy making other plans. I'd much rather a long term vision than winging it in the hope of a quick fix though. Long term vision requires long term patience All I would ask is what in your opinion is the long term vision? I see a long term vision in they type of players we’ve recruited especially the more speculative acquisitions. I’m not however of the opinion that they’re either the type of deals the manager would have wanted nor are them and him a match made in heaven ie I’m not overly confident in him getting the best out of them so is the long term vision the recruitment process or the appointment of this manager or can you see how they complement each other? Continuity and stability, I'm sure come January Neil will be more than aware of what else is needed and it will be priority, then come summer we've got a preseason and a another summer to add the missing pieces to the jigsaw. We've had a lot to do in one window. It's that old statement, Rome wasn't built in a day isn't it. I do think if he arrived at this club with the club in a good position with decent players just not quite punching their weight but a balanced team on the whole the expectation of immediate success would be more valid, it only needed tweaking

And then playing them in a formation they clearly aren't made for. It's a disaster already and the season is practically over as far as any success is concerned.

'Your' idea of success though isn't it. It depends how you look at it, I see it as a cold turkey phase we've just got to go through. The club have pressed reset but the fans haven't. I like to look at it like the seeds have been planted for a better garden

That sounds worryingly close to blaming the fans though. It isn't 'we want success and we want it now', it's that we want some signs that things are improving - most people would be happy with a top half finish playing front-foot football. Neil can still deliver that but when he puts out a team that can't defend a basic set piece and reacts to the sight of Aaron Connolly as if he's Jason Voorhees with a chainsaw, that really isn't on anyone else but him. It's basic stuff, that's what's so worrying. That he's abandoned his big vision based on an injury-prone left back getting injured also doesn't speak to brilliant planning, and for a supposed tactician he's being worrying tactically outgunned a lot by the bloke in the other dugout. As people have said, it's hard for a new bunch of players to build any momentum if you're constantly dicking around with the system and personnel and worrying about the opposition. He looks like The Brain, he talks like The Brain, but he's behaving like Pinky. He's in unchartered territory though as would most managers bringing in a new squad without the benefit of a preseason. I get the tinkering around bit but if we've missed out on a couple of key targets your vision probably gets a bit distorted. I've said myself he's got to settle on a formation early doors but if the options arn't there to do what you want wether that's through injuries, missed targets or both it can become difficult quickly. I thought a season was judged over 46 games anyway so it depends what your expectations are, which we all differ. My idea of instant progress is a definate improvement in playing staff, I believe that to be the case regardless of immediate results It doesn’t even need to be results, if the signs were there in the performances and results were mixed but steady it would be alright. The things he’s getting wrong and down to him - defending set pieces, shape, organisation are things that can be fixed relatively quickly on the training ground - it isn’t individuals taking time, it’s the team looking a complete mess, a collection of decent attacking players built on a house of sand. I never expected him to get absolutely everything he needed in one window but the whole plan shouldn’t be knocked for a loop on the strength of one predictable injury, surely? 46 games is a luxury isn’t it? And collecting a talented array or individuals means little if you can’t get a tune out of them. As I said, it’s fixable but he needs to show signs quickly.

Luckily it isn’t representative. Why are 'away games' relevant? My point here is that, having not even attended the away games (and watched on a stream instead where you get no where near the perspective of what’s going on across the whole pitch), some, Bayern included, feel qualified to tell us everything we need to know about the game - usually in a negative, argumentative style. So away games are relevant for the example I gave.

You get a significantly better view than someone stood right at the front of an away end, at pitch level, imho (I have done both). Separately, there's the home games, which more people attend and see 'live'. Lots of people on here do exactly that. You don't need to 'be there' to appreciate everything that's going on. People form their own opinions of what they see, and those opinions might differ. I thought we were heading down the rabbit-hole of 'if you don't go to away games then your opinion doesn't carry as much weight' 😉

I mean do people not talk about Stoke at work? On the bus? In the pub? When bumping into an acquaintance in the condiments aisle in Tesco? With thier relatives? I'd say the mood on here is a very fair reflection. I think the reaction to the almost inevitable opening goal for Bristol City on Saturday might well answer this question. If the away fans turn that's usually a pretty good indicator. Unfortunately for Alex, "Neil, Neil sort it out" is clumsy and doesn't quite work. The only thing I’ve heard at work is how one woman’s son who has a season ticket couldn’t be arsed to go and was very happy about it 🤣

I agree, but then the season is 46 games long, most teams will go through patches of inconsistency in a 46 game season. Some games though you could argue we deserved points, definatley goals, that's the nature of football, sometimes you get the rub of the green. We could have out of the blocks like Usain bolt ourselves, there is no saying the form teams will sustain it either, they may have issues when we go through our streak, it's a long season. We come on strong second half of season where they fall away it happens, every season

Either way we keep finishing about 16th so its got to improve by at least 6 places minimum.

We could have out of the blocks like Usain bolt ourselves, there is no saying the form teams will sustain it either, they may have issues when we go through our streak, it's a long season. We come on strong second half of season where they fall away it happens, every season It doesn’t just happen out of nowhere by magic, though, it happens for a reason. The worry is that this doesn’t look like a patch of inconsistency, it looks like a systemic issue that the manager is either blind to, stubbornly persisting with anyway or doesn’t know how to fix.

Either way we keep finishing about 16th so its got to improve by at least 6 places minimum. mmm , i thought it was the opposite and we were more shit the latter half of the season ,.... except the promotion year when we signed some good players in january .

Based on what, 8 games? His entire tenure here bar that weird few game spell that probably saved us from being in the shit last season.
