According to SoT live. For commercial reasons! Hanley is literally dying on its arse, what a sad state.

What a shithole our city centre has become. Another nail. Just bulldoze it and put something useful there like an immigration centre

Lots of town and city centres are suffering from our changing shopping habits...I've seen suggestions of turning more and more properties into homes, which actually seems like a good idea...create more of a 'local neighbourhood' feel

Here in Crewe, we have a lovely multi storey carpark being built but with no town centre unless you like charity shops, betting shops or vape shops! 🤷🏼♂️

The streets need cleaning up. It's a hell hole filled with dusters and must be intimidating to any visitor.
Council really need to hang their heads in shame.

Real shame. I’ve used the Hanley shop a few times but what’s killing town centres like Hanley is exorbitant parking charges. The idiots in the Town Hall are yet to realise more revenue would be earned by allowing free parking thus encouraging shoppers. Anyway for this reason, although it’s quite a bit further to drive, I use the club shop at the ground.

Validated parking with certain purchases would have been a possibility, say £10 in a shop Asda used to do similar . Was great going to Wolves, buy £10 worth of cans and you got 4 hour parking that used to piss the Hitler parking bloke off there as the ground a 3 minute walk.

That's sad to hear. Hopefully those that work there will be able to be relocated up to the ground in some other capacity.

Massive shame but you can’t blame the club if it doesn’t make sense financially. A shit sign for Hanley though which is worrying.

Hanley is a toilet, no amount of free parking would get me anywhere near the place.

When we go clothes shopping we use the Cannock and Cheshire Oaks outlets. If we’d prefer a shopping centre, Trafford and Bullring aren’t that far away. Three of these have free parking. Yet a shithole like Hanley with little in it and getting less with time thinks it’s ok to charge folk to park (not that I’d go if it was free!).
Sod Hanley off and make Stoke a city centre. Starting with the Goods Yard and the other things around it, find space for an arena there, already got the train station and university, have the station hotel completely revamped. Could a few areas be demolished to be used for parking to aid Stoke and also when the stadium is being used?

It's a shame the goverment can't give the local council millions of pounds to sort the place out.
Oh wait.....

It's not just Stoke I'm afraid, Stafford, Wellington (telford) all the same
Problem I think is council's and governments need to encourage shops and local entrepreneurs busy offering heavily reduced rates and taxes.
I'm no expert on this but if you can but something off amazon on line, have it delivered at half the price than paying to park then most people would
Tax the likes of Amazon and give local shops a real advantage

Although I’ve got no evidence to support this, the town is definitely busier and at least two new businesses have sprung up.

Are they even from or even live in the local area? Do they care enough about our city, or are they there just to manage the books and let the streets decay. I’m so sad seeing Hanley and ‘Castle the way they are now. Both used to be nice, pleasantly buzzing places to shop and have a night out.

I'm amazed there is anything left up there to be honest.
For instance, how in the name of Jebus do Claires sell enough hair clips to the 17 or so daily visitors to The Potteries Shopping Centre to remain a going concern?

The church near to the multi-story carpark is to become a mosque. That will bring some shoppers in. Won't it?

I'm afraid Stoke on Trent has become Warehouse City with a couple of retail parks dotted around.
It's an absolute tragedy.
Places like Longport Newcastle Street King Street Waterloo Road etc etc are shitholes of the highest order. Longton precinct omg.
Looking at the new etruria valley a500 wolstanton/festival park development makes me want to throw up.

But then you drive past them when they are built and there are about 7 car parking spaces on each.
