This young man, some time soldier, now suspected terrorist, who hopped out of Wandsworth prison in a chef's costume strapped to the bottom of a delivery van and is now on the loose.
Am I the only person not the least bit surprised you can easily escape from one of our prisons?
I mean you can easily get anything you like in, be it drugs or girls or whatever, so why not get anything out?!

I’ll be locking the back door and putting the latch on tonight. Bit close to home is Wandsworth

When you really need the van driver to take a short cut through a cactus field they don’t.

Worked & was arrested at 'MOD Stafford' as a serving soldier earlier on in the year. Had made fake bombs and planted them around the base to cause a terrorist threat, aswell as gathering information on fellow soldiers to pass onto terrorist organisations.. Sounds like someone you wouldn't want in the UK Armed Forces. Add to this he was only on remand awaiting trial in the Autumn, kind of for me anyway kind of reinforces his guilt and need to get away prior to likely conviction & move to Category 'A' Prison like Belmarsh. Sure the Intelligence Networks are working on leads but think he'll he one hard find. I'd imagine the longer he's on the run the tougher it'll be to find him again, the first few hours are key but I'd guess after 24hrs the task will be nigh on impossible. A trained soldier will be able to keep himself self sufficient for a good while & will certainly know the tricks of the trade when it comes to keeping low and out of sight!

How the hell did he get past vetting? Perhaps because army recruitment is outsourced to Crapita who have missed targets just about every year they have had the contract. Another outsourcing triumph.

Assuming I've spent far more time in our prisons than you, where in the hell do you get the idea that prisoners are getting girls smuggled into prisons. I think you must be watching too much television. Drugs yes it's a difficult one to stop there are so many ways of getting it in, even mobile phones but I've never heard of anyone having girls smuggled into a closed UK prison. EDIT: Also the rate of escapes from UK prisons has been miserly in recent years. It really isn't easy at all.

It seems an element of pre-planning rather than opportunistic as he had straps to tie himself to underside of Van
Wandsworth routinely operates between 60% to 80% above capacity
Given that he's deemed a threat to National Security I'm astounded he was designated as a Category B Remand Prisoner

Can't believe that this hasn't been highlighted by staff on numerous occasions since he's been in custody. Feel sure it will have been referred up and someone has made a decision that's going to bite them on the arse.

I don't see the panic with this at all. The minister in charge has said we will catch him.
All good then.

From the Guardian live feed just now Following his comments about staffing shortages (see 1.02pm), the chief inspector of prisons Charlie Taylor is asked if the way the UK runs its prison system is working. He tells BBC Radio 4’s World at One programme:
I think, ultimately, prisons have got two responsibilities: They have a public protection responsibility to keep people locked up, and to stop them from getting out and so they serve their sentence; but they also have a public protection responsibility to make sure that people are less likely to reoffend when they come out.
And, if prisoners are coming from a jail where they’ve been banged up in their cell for 22 hours a day, if they’re not getting any opportunities to fill in the huge skills gaps that there are for many prisoners, if they’re not getting a chance to get into work or education, then my concern is that prisons are failing to fulfil that public protection function.
And prisoners, when they come out, are more likely to reoffend, to create more victims, to cause mayhem in communities. And that can’t be good enough.

Its amazing, they know exactly where my car is if its not taxed, or exactly where i am if i forget to pay the bills, yet a terrorist who escapes from prison cant be found for love nor money. They should be microchipped like arnold schwarzenegger in total recall with a cricket ball sized tracker implanted in their heads. Mind you a wet tea towel would block the signal so maybe an additional one implanted up their arse.
