This is what Alex Neil said recently when asked about the big lad.
I haven't watched today, but the fact he started with what looked like a very lightweight attack yet changed it after 30 minutes will hopefully signify a change in mindset. Wesley needs to be THE option EVERY game.
I must have repeated this about a thousand times, but in this division, unless you have a team of superb passers (which teams rarely do) the way to pick up points is by having a physical presence up-front, knock the ball up to them and win the second balls. It's old-fashioned, and Pep might have moved on from it, but when you're playing with Championship-level players, it's a simple, yet effective tactic.
Not only would I be starting Big Wes every week, I'd be scouring the transfer market like crazy for an alternative to him.

He needs a proper 10 to run off him. He and Johnson got too close to each other. Over time, I’d like to see that understanding evolve so that DJ just runs forward as soon as the ball goes to Wesley, with the expectation that he’ll win it and know what to do with it.

I haven't seen you hyped up about a player like this since early Henrik 'playmaking brontosaurus' Risom.
Mind you, if he's half as good as him....

I’m convinced he gets bigger every week.
It looked like the Statue of Liberty came off the bench when he came on.

Looked ok to me and for a big fella has a good touch and a bit of a trick. Pity about those around him today.

Man's a beast and needs to play every fecking game.
Won everything. Held it up laid it off when needed.
Bought players into the game.
Him up top with runners off him brings a different dimension.
Get him fit, get him playing.

Looks to have good feet and almost impossible to knock off the ball, not sure he’s great in the air or has a decent shot though.
Best player today

Seeing him go against Championship centre backs just reminds me of the QB who shits himself against the Waterboy when he says she’s not the devil mama. I hope we get him for longer than a year if he can get up to full fitness.

If Mmaee is playing up front he'll need a quality number ten off him and two quick wingers either side. Even then it looks like he's going to need a few months to bed in.
The fact we reached for Wesley so soon gets me very worried about a number of things inside and outside of the dugout.

It certainly seems he's trying to justify Mmaee's signing at the expense of Wesley.

Wesley was head and shoulders above any other player today, literally. Shame laurent kept passing to Ipswich instead of him.

It certainly seems he's trying to justify Mmaee's signing at the expense of Wesley. Very concerning if true… Have not seen today’s game but was disappointed with his efforts in the second half against Rotherham from the Boothen End. I wonder how the standard of players he faced in Hungary compare to this level? (Regardless of the level, whereas Vidigal looked full of effort and spark in the video clips prior to his signing, never got that impression with footage of Mmaee). Unfortunately, reminded me very much of Berahino’s debut (as a sub) against Everton. Slow motion like and devoid of real effort… leaving a feeling that I could have done better myself! 🙂 As I think it is the biggest fee paid so far… certainly hope it’s a case of jumping to wrong conclusions…. Then again, by all accounts, plenty of players lacked effort today. Never acceptable!

Just here to miss at penalty at Vale Park! 🙂

Impressed with Big Wes today. The ball sticks to him and he holds off defenders. Get a rapid partner with him and we’re off.

Think Wes will play a big part this season, very impressed today and will be more influential as they all gel.

Yeah exactly and that's what worries me, even though I think he deserves praise for actually making a change so early. It's the mechanics of the side going long and also they went long to Gayle in midweek. That's the worry.

Wesley isn’t a goal scorer.
We need a consistent goal scorer at this level to lead the line.
