Better make the most of his efforts this season, if they are to the required standard, because he will likely be off to pastures new if we stay in this division.

Wesley isn’t a goal scorer. We need a consistent goal scorer at this level to lead the line. Somebody like Mamady Sidibe? More like Ricardo Fuller.

I agree, you won't escape the championship without a big lump up front.

If he carries on like this, that one year deal might bite us in the arse at the end of the season.

I’m convinced he gets bigger every week. It looked like the Statue of Liberty came off the bench when he came on. More like Godzilla to me

Must admit I've been pleasently surprised by Wesley so far. He is not just a big presens up front, but very skillful on the ball too. In addition he works ever so hard for the team to retain the ball. He certainly deserves to be a starter for us, and if he carries on as he has done in our last two games I think we need to offer him a contract extension ASAP!

I thought Big Wes had another decent game yesterday- he's never going to score, or move much, but get the ball into him and he'll lay it off to whoever is around him. That's the key for me- getting 3 players behind him- an inside forward cutting in from each wing and a number 10, who'll be there to latch onto the second ball when he batters everyone out of the way to get to the initial one.
At the moment, Vidigal has earnt one of those spots, Bae Junho looked so bright off the bench that I think he's got to have another, while the final spot is up for grabs. Haksabanovic, Campbell, Leris, Jojic, maybe even Gooch and Johnson could all be options.

Thankfully we do have them at the club.

We needed a younger version of Steven Fletcher what we have is a version of Norman Stanley Fletcher. Doesn't move much and won't score goals....mmm just what we needed. It will be a long season if we're pinning our hopes on Wesley.

The quality of balls into the box for him to attack has been poor so far and this needs to improve.
If we’re going to play him then we also need an attacking mid who is going to get in around and even beyond him and we didn’t have that yesterday.

Wesley is the elephant in the room for me.
Neil made a big deal of our home form and how we need a different way of combating teams who play a low block, but if I’m an opposition manager I know that Wesley has the pace of a snail and that doubling up on the wide men and leaving my centre half one on one with him is not an issue.
The club seem keen to pat themselves on the back over their recruitment, many of the fans are raving about our summer spending also yet having only Wesley as a target man seems like negligence to me……

AN talked about an "option". That option has turned into the default with the form and then injury to Mmaee. Probably would be less obvious if it wasn't for missing Vidigal and Campbell's lacklustre efforts.

Attacking balls in the box doesn’t seem a strength of his though. It seems his game is just holding the ball up for others. Like others have pointed out yesterday there was times he was holding the ball up but he had no willing support.

In our two best performances of the season (4-1 and 6-1) Wesley hasn’t started.
I think he’s a useful option to have but don’t see him as a guaranteed starter.
We need Mmaee up and running to see us at our best in my opinion.
Someone like Asante would have been the perfect mix of aggressiveness and goal scoring potential but it wasn’t to be.

I've lived in houses smaller than Wesley so I'm surprised at how comfortable he is with balls played into his feet/lower body and how useless he is with balls played above chest height.
Agree with the sentiment already expressed by others, once we get decent players who are up to speed buzzing around him I think he will prove to be an asset.

One of the essential signings we needed in the transfer window was a goalscorer to lead the line.
Wesley isn’t a goalscorer and isn’t mobile enough to lead the line either.
Let’s hope Mmaee can do the job better.

I personally thought Wesley wasn’t too bad yesterday. It was always going to be tough for him when he’s got to hold the ball with 3 defenders around him and no Stoke player within about 15/20 yards of him, and playing with his back to goal most of the game. So I thought he did alright considering.

He does what he does well - but his skill set is quite limited as we probably expected. Maybe the injury has impacted further on his mobility
So it's a bit of a conundrum
He is just a big lump, albeit a reasonable quality one.
The big money goes on the players who can do what he does and other stuff as well. Trouble is they cost about £50m.
Neil said the magic bullet against Preston-type teams at home was a "big target man" and "one-v-one wingers" who can conjure something up.
Yesterday we had Campbell (who played in the bulk of our home frustrations after which Neil was lamenting the lack of other options) and Leris who seems a reasonable Jacob impersonator (who, likewise played in most of them too) without the same type of overall goal threat.
At least we've got Vidders, Bae, Haksabanovic and Mmaee to come in and offer more variety in the future.

He did what he could and did a decent job as target man and occupying defenders, but then when Gooch put that cross in he was nowhere near it. If Neil is asking him to do the target man role then you can’t say he’s not doing it, but it’s whatever that’s going on around him that needs sorting.
He’s immobile and whilst hard to knock off the ball, he can’t run in behind anyone so it’s taking up a spot for someone else who could cause another problem other than being a big awkward bastard.
We have a few weeks now to work on things but it’s difficult to know what to do and how long to stick with it. Keep changing it and nobody gets a decent chance to make it work or keep it the same and everyone questions why there’s been no change if it hasn’t worked.

Gooch put one of the best crosses you're ever likely to see in, Wesley was nowhere near getting on the end of it. Peter Thorne would have taken himself, the ball and the keeper into the back of the net from that beauty.............

I thought Wesley had his best game for us yesterday. Having said that although he held up the ball and laid it off pretty well most of the time he simply is not mobile enough,or at all. On top of that he just doesn’t look like scoring. I am desperately hoping that Mmaee is going to get going and be the main central striker. I think he’s shown enough so far to give us hope. The front three yesterday were no different to the problems we had last season.

I thought he played well enough but had zero support, no one in the midfield making runs past him for the ball when he was trying to hold off two or three players and neither of the wide players got close enough to him if he won a header, if he's going to be a regular in the side it really needs working on.

Funny how we all see the game differently, I think he’s utterly useless. Isn’t mobile enough, doesn’t hold it up well enough for the size of the fella, and gets beaten in the air far to much.
I just think given his size he should be much more of a handful, Hope I change my mind but I haven’t seen anything that makes me think he’s going to score more than half a dozen goals for us
