At least he's been available week in and week out. He's been incredibly isolated and for me, done well without being amazing. Need to get players close to him 100%. Two wider forwards and attacking midfielder need to get closer to him. Never going to be prolific but can assist others as he’s a monster.

He's our new Mama.
An important cog in a machine but he won't score 15+ goals a season.
Did really well yesterday holding it up, bringing others in.
Just needs a goal now.
Go orrrrn Wes.

I think hoever uses him best, he always lays it in to his feet when he's got defenders on him, he'll hold it and lay it off. We need to do that with him all the time. Get it into feet

He is good at getting hold of the ball , shielding it and laying it off . Which is great, but it is all he can do .
A mobile, free scoring one man Drogba/Haaland attack he ain't. He's not even an Oli mcburnie , lead the line 10 / 12 goals a season player.
If he plays it's with players ( junho ? Lowe ? Hasks? Vidigal? ) close bye and running off him. Either that , or he doesn't play at all .
He's very good at an important part of the game, but he just does that one thing.
Either the team is set up to exploit that one genuine strength or he doesn't play.
And I like him!

He gives us another option when we are struggling to break teams down. I thought he was one of our better players against Hull last week!

There’s nowhere near enough to his game for a modern focal point forward.

There’s nowhere near enough to his game for a modern focal point forward. I can see where you coming from. If you take Oli mcburnie as a comparison. Mcburnie likes to physically get hold of the ball and lay it off but he ALSO likes to get on the end of crosses and set pieces and head home from inside the opposition penalty box, which is where a fair proportion of his 10 / 12 goals a season come from. A Two trick pony if you like ! Wes doesn't do Mcburnie's , scoring headers thing . He just does the getting hold of the ball and laying it off to a Stoke shirt. If you are struggling to get into the game and need an out ball , I might be tempted to put him on. But then you have to accept he has one strength and set up your team accordingly.

I agree with kingsman, he holds the ball up well, then lays it off, but for a big guy, he doesn't win enough 50/50 headers, and seems always to have his back to goal, he lacks pace, skill, and doesn’t create a nuisance in the box, maybe I’m been a bit harsh on him, and he needs a bit more time to gel.

I think he’s only played for them once. He’s not very good at anything involving movement. Useful at static tests of strength and little lay offs following them. It’s disappointing but I think we might be stuck with it for a bit. Did Lowe really make much impact barring the goal.

Is it too soon to write big Wes off as being utterly garbage?
He’s a Brazilian Sam Vokes.
The lad can’t move.
Watching him jump is even more painful.

I thought he started off well for us but he does, indeed, seem rather, erm, limited. He’s actually a good footballer and absolutely crap at what you want him to be good at. He can bully a defender if he’s not having to think about heading it but put it in the air and it’s like his neck has melted.

Decided he looked like a shit Lukaku tonight. And Lukaku is now shit so that’s not even a backhanded compliment. Can’t run, can’t jump, can’t control it properly and too big. Prefer Lowe even though he’s very raw and probably not good enough either.

Thought tonight was the best he's played for us personally.
Terrible at passing and running admittedly but he was involved in the game and made a nuisance of himself.

I genuinely want to like him and for him to do well, but he reminds me of that player who duped Graeme Souness into signing him cos he was George Weahs cousin and turned out to be hopeless. If memory serves he was called Ali Dia, Dia by name and Dia by nature.

I'd love to know when he appeared on the radar.
I'm sure I heard it described somewhere as "an opportunistic one", rather than one that had been long-planned.
We know he was behind Ashley Barnes . Wonder who else we missed, and who he ultimately leapfrogged to be the Big Lad we settled on
He doesn't seem to offer the things Neil said he wanted in a target option he was bemoaning the lack of time and time again last season .
He's looking like a waste of space sadly . He seemed up for it tonight, at least. But his deficiencies are just so massive

He doesn’t fail to desieve so far does he, watching certain challenges you just feel like you’re saying goarn, but either doesn’t or approaches in the sense he’s going over the top. His physical size he’s not adjusted to how make it work. I think Lou or tp would though.

He can hold the ball up and that’s about it by the looks of it, for someone so big he’s surprisingly bad in the air.
That being said when he has started we haven’t even played to his strengths by having a number 10 in or around him and midfielders getting beyond him.
Its looking very much like Mmaee or bust until January.
