Stewart to Stoke funds Cannon to Sunderland.
Sunderland have a problem. Stewart not accepting a new contract. Clock ticking on Stewart’s value because of his contract situation and his injury. Potential buyers seem to be dropping away with only Stoke in for him.
Sunderland probably not wanting to be shafted by Stoke again
If Sunderland won’t take our money for Stewart we might take Cannon as an alternative and Stewart will run down his contract at Sunderland giving them nothing
Fascinating if it’s true 😂😂

Everton have shown an interest in Campbell previously I hope he stays here and works well with our new signings They’d be utterly mental to chase Campbell. He has all the tools but zero brain to connect talent with thinking He's not good enough to make it in the top flight.

If Cannon came someone would have to leave. Wesley and Mmaee should eventually feature plenty you’d think and Cannon would create a wealth of possibilities but Brown and Campbell will slip further down the pecking order. I’m leaving Gayle out of the debate although it would be good to shift some of his wages at least. I agree with a certain poster on here that another DM would be useful. There was an interesting lad at Oxford I thought we liked (was it Brannigan?). I’d happily lose Thompson to find a replacement but based on what we’ve seen so far, anything could happen.

Not if he gets the goals...thats the risk Only if the goals take you up. Anything else and it’s a waste of £1 million. It’s a pathetic fee that just highlights how ridiculous the loan system is. See I don't get that. Not on about cannon particularly but if you were getting a striker who had a good chance of getting you goals for 1m a season, say it was possible to have him over two or three years like that it's like signing a good striker for say 3m quid. If he gets goals and helps the team perform up the league then all good for me.

theathletic.com/4732663/2023/07/31/evertons-urgent-search-for-goals/After an impressive loan at Preston last season, young striker Tom Cannon is training individually and closing in on his return. The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has extensive interest from Championship clubs, some of whom want to take him on loan and others who would prefer a permanent deal. A decision over Cannon’s future is expected shortly.

Judging by the reaction from the Preston fans about the possibility of him going elsewhere, he's pretty good.

I dont know too much about the fella. What type of striker is he? Poacher? Target man? Links play? M 100% not a target man. We already have that now in big Wes. Cannon played as part of a front two last season. He's very good at finding space in the box to score goals, as shown by his first goal for Preston. Possibly gives us options to play a 4-3-1-2 in some games. Would Cannon more likely partner Wes or Mmaee though?

Can't be arsed to look back over the whole thread, so my apologies if the point's already been made, but if we sign Cannon (or any other forward), we'd have eight forward players including the two youngsters, so there'd have to be a plan to offload a few in some way.

Campbell or Brown to leave?

Everton seem to be close to getting a striker who's been linked with big money moves, so may free Cannon up

I think he needs a season of senior football. I would say the same about Tezgel but he seems to be made of glass. Probably best we keep him here and hope to slow his shattering.

But yeah, whichever way you cut it, it ends as you've suggested. Wonder if Neil would prefer to keep Brown to do the chasing down and harrying when we're a goal, or hopefully two, up in matches.

Lowe came in to the squad when Tezgel was injured but despite needing a target man in games, we saw Gayle (for example) come on instead. I can’t see how Lowe is going to overtake Tezgel in the pecking order at present (unless Tezgel just keeps breaking down) and we already have a lot of strikers. I’d like to see Lowe go out on loan. What will he learn in PL2?

Alan Nixon @reluctantnicko hi, any movement in cannon deal today? I would expect someone to go close to the 1m loan fee by the end of the week Rovers still in contention? No Who is Cannon’s preferred destination? The lad will have a say … but Everton will have the bigger say when it comes to someone meeting the loan fee figure It’s just quite high of a fee for a loan for a championship striker that’s all The queue of interest tells you he would make a difference to someone’s season.

We should try and sign him permanently even if it's the rest of the budget, he's 100% certain to be a top player and will score plenty
