Agreed. “Hype” around sporting events is common when a team is doing well. When I was a child, there was “hype” around cricket for a time (which was lost on me) and “hype” around rugby. The latter caught my interest and soon I was playing and training in a team. It was good for my development as a young teen and for my life skills. Not everything is designed to inspire a middle-aged man who only want to watch men’s football. People should take National pride in the achievements of these women. If they inspire young girls (and boys) to get into football, what is wrong with that? It’s laughable how unpatriotic some can be, revelling in their country NOT winning a major tournament and trying to downplay it at every turn. My wee lass is 8 and regularly has YouTube football videos on and plays Fifa. Eight month ago the blokes World Cup barely registered. The women's one though we must have watched 8 games together and she watches highlights of games she missed. The next euros hopefully will be where it really takes off. I think that’s wonderful. Guys have it easy at times when it comes to common chatter. It’s easy for me to start talking to a stranger. When it calls for it, it’s straightforward to just jump into sports. It’s been the same all the way through my life. No matter the age difference between myself and another man, sport often served as a common ground. Sport taught me discipline, camaraderie and the value of doing tasks I didn’t necessarily enjoy to ensure success as a group. I hope that the explosion of coverage of women’s football and the success that England have had in it will provide similar opportunities for the next generation of women. It won’t happen while some continue to sneer at it though, or at least, it won’t be helped by it at all.

Scandalous, buy her some dolls and a doll's house! 😁 We've enjoyed most games, together, haven't we! 😘 Been some great games, goals, skills and it's more physical than the men's game in many ways, some horrendous tackles were let go! 😁 It's different but still entertaining! I really hope it doesn't become more like the men's game though Spain did display some disappointing characteristics! That's not to say they weren't the better team. It was a great World Cup, well done the Aussies and New Zealand public!

Like you say same game played differently- love how end to end it is and typically doesn't end up a war of attrition in the middle. Genuinely got a weird sense of mourning like when a decent bloke world cup finishes as, outside of Stoke, much prefer international football over club. Watching the women's game progress and improve is a massive part of the attraction. Don't like how Spain have edged towards shitebaggery but in fairness they were even more embarrassing in the semi. Anyone saying the technical ability of that Spanish midfield and left back in particular is akin to amateur level must have one hell of a pub team!

I think your comment illustrates the problem Women's Football faces. Not one mention of attending a game each week or at all. It is becoming a tv show,on free to air tv/ a big match that is highly promoted with free tickets given away. No mention of the tickets that were given away free in New Zealand when World Cup ticket sales were slow this year. Hopefully a lot of young girls will be inspired by the Lionesses to take up playing football. But what is most needed for Women's Football to grow is for people to regularly attend games. Priced at £4 to £10 a game (£80 for a season ticket) there is no excuse for all those who support the game not to show their support by actually going to games.

Think today was the day England missed Leah Williamson’s defending and calming influence and Beth Mead upfront. They have done brilliantly to get to the final without 3 absolutely key players, if you include Fran Kirby.

How come the penalty was not retaken? Our keeper virtually tackled the penalty taker! The ref missed/mis-judged loads including the time wasting for the lass who was already on a yellow. Shame about the result, but the best team did win. Fantastic performance overall and I didn't think we would do this well. Long may our form continue.

Last season Glasgow City Roman Catholic Riot Squad turned up and they're a proper naughty firm so there was a real edge in the air at the local trampoline park. All of a sudden a neon blue raspberry slushy has been chucked against the wall and some weegie ginger gadgy is screeching 'yer Da sells Avon ye Dundee minky bastards!' Bosh, it goes off and there's claret, grippy socks and spongey cubes flying everywhere! After ten minutes of absolute mayhem with the stewards manically whistling about running across the trampolines mine has collected the 9 carrot thick gold chains from the neck of five of their fallen top crew, clambered to the top of tallest wall tramp despite continued whistling from stewards, held them aloft and shouted 'fuck off back to Springburn to yer junkie teenage mums!' Obviously I grounded her but guiltily admit to a modicum of pride too. In seriousness, we're still at the amateur stage where income is driven by the success of the national teams. We've been 6 games (3 of each) but the girls could defo be done with qualifying again as they've blown the lsst two. The WSL will be integral to that as that's where our talent goes plus Rangers and Celtic have now taken an interest. Would say 5k average for the WSL ain't bad and is in line with League 2 average before Wrexham and Notts. The women just need to not get greedy as £30k- £100k a year (outside superstars/ Lionesses) wages a year is likely sustainable short to medium term.

Anyone with girls playing football Leah Williamson has a book out that's aimed at 10+ There's a very good section on having periods and how it can impact when your sporty. I didn't know it was in there so pre-empted a conversation I wasn't sure when or how to have. Apparently she asked her coach too so the coach spoke to the kids about it as a couple of the team are 11 early next year. Really good book for anyone whose daughter plays plus a sneaky way get extra reading in.

Was surprised by the choice of ref as there's three or four others who've ref'd blokes games. Think the French lass has done Leage 1 games and Champions League but England and Spain maybe a bit close or it would have been her surely- the Chilean with the scary eyes was good too. Surprised it was the same ref as the semi but she was defo ostentatious and wanted her moment- wouldn't have been surprised if she'd started twerking and singing a Beyonce medley after taking twenty minutes to award the peno.

The women's game is growing, how can it grow without the people at the top taking it seriously and giving them their full backing. Surely we all want the men's and women's game to be on a par at some point. The players will know that they have nobody representing them from back home and for me it hurts the women's game. It's like saying they aren't as important and it's disappointing. Nice idea but they'll never be on par Their target market is women and men who are open to the women's game not sexist males who think nothing can compete with the men's game. I don't understand why some men feel the need to knock the women's game just because they aren't at the same level as men. It might not be cool enough or masculine enough for some men but that doesn't mean it can't be on a par with a different audience to the men's game.

From some articles ive seen this week that concept has been used in reverse. Women themselves have been talking about how they have outshone the mens teams of the past and current.

I've probably watched about 10 minutes in total of the whole tournament. Does that make me sexist even though I still wanted them to do well, I personally think not. It's just a personal preference, not prejudice.

I did much the same, although I watched a bit more through gritted teeth. My take aways are (and women football lovers don’t take this the wrong way) the goals should probably be a little smaller, 6 inches makes a huge difference as we all know😉 and the big one………. Shorten the playing time. The difference between first and second halves are stark. I understand women will say absolutely not but the game will not move on until some changes happen. Much like Tennis, women can’t play 5 sets and nor do they want to. Women at the top level simply don’t have the physical attributes of a man at the top level.

I'd go the other way and make blokes goals 6 inches wider and make it 10v10. When they drew up the rules 100+ years ago they couldn't have envisaged 6 foot five keepers and outfield players collectively running 140km per game. The bloke's game is becoming stale and the only answer always seems to be 'what if we make the big plastic soulless clubs even richer so they can spunk it all on a reducing pool of talent?' Plus I'm a bloke and far from perfect- I'd shag half the Swedish and Japanese team if in a bizarre parallel universe they'd acquiesce amd have also dreamt of wrestling the big Colombian centre forward in a vat of beans which ended both badly but satisfactorily for me twice.

If you omit the showcase games, the average attendance falls from 6,000 to 3,000. But even 6,000 @ £10 a head wouldn't be equal to 3,000 @ £25 a head.Do you really think that anyone in League 2 is on £100k? I think they need to stop comparing themselves with the Men's game and get on with building up their own version. This World Cup generated a fiftheenth of the revenue that last year's Men's World Cup did. FIFA gave the Women a quarter as much prize money as the men received. Yet the Australian Team complained that this wasn't good enough and they wanted the same as the Men got. Had they been given a fiftheenth they would have received about £29m instead of the £110m they actually got. Even our own squad who all received £10k to help bring family to Australia and are getting £150 k each (even if they didn't play a game) are complaining that the FA should give them more money. So good luck with keeping salaries realistic.
