There are 48 teams below us in the football pyramid. Surely there must be a forward amongst them who fits what we need and is capable of making the step up to the Championship? We don't even need to fish in that pool exclusively anymore, we've got the whole of Europe to get at. It's obviously as easy as that because loads of clubs manage to do it every season. It surely can't be as difficult as we've made it (and look like continuing to make it) over the past 7-8 years or so.

I'm not saying it's easy but it's like any food chain isn't it. Not every club in the Championship is after a target man this summer.

Move a Gayle on and you've got £20k per week to play with. only chance of gayle moving on if is a saudi club comes in for him which is highly doubtful

A couple of seasons back we were apparently looking at Dion Charles ( Accrington then, Bolton now )
He's a regular scorer, albeit in League One, but why aren't we looking at players like that rather than previously injured players ?

On that basis, I would take a gamble on Jonson Clarke-Harris who the Posh are trying to move on with him being in the last 12 months of his contract. i would have thought he would easily get into double figure's in the championship and he is right nuisance for any defender

I think he's a brilliant player and would be a perfect fit. Big big signing if they can get it over the line.

If its not a stupid question why don't Sunderland want him? Quick answer please, I expect this thread will shortly vanish like it's predecessors. We do, it’s just a stand off between ourselves and the player/agent. From what I understand, we offered him a big contract when we got promoted - around £15k a week with bonuses, but he wanted to see if a better offer would come in for him (as he effectively had two years left at the time with the one-year extension). He then got his second long-term injury and wanted to sign the deal on our original terms offered, but we didn’t feel comfortable offering that when there’s no guarantee he’ll come back as the same player. He and his agent took a chance not accepting the original offer, and if he doesn’t come back fully fit - then they’ve blown it because no one would offer him more than £15k a week on the basis of a good 15 months or so. FWIW, he can leave imo. Sick of the whole saga now and he’d likely just increase his demands again if he starts banging them in when he returns. Shame as he’s a good player but there’s obviously a huge stand off and neither side will give in. Not to us thanks. Don’t blame Sunderland for being cautious. Like you say the player took a big risk he must be kicking himself

2 million plus add ons based on goals leaving enough room for us to bring in another striker

I'd rather see us go for Akor Adams at Lillestrøm. He has scored regularly this season, is still young and will only increase his value. I'm almost certain a bid around £4M for him would make it very hard to resist for a club like Lillestrøm. Unproven at this level, but no health issues!

With our recent cold feet over the transfer of 1.25m sarkic...are we sure we're gonna pay a higher fee for Stewart who has also got a history of injuries.. not convinced we will.

I cannot see this happening so does this mean we have someone else in mind who we haven't been linked with?

We need a reliable fit squad , he is too big a risk until he proves his fitness and returns to the level he was at before his injury in my view

If they walk away from Sarkic, and then sign Stewart. It is going to open a large can of worms if he isn't available to play early in the season!
