That's actually a really good point which not thought of. Some of the players of potential giving up the chance to win what is really the pinnacle of their careers in winning the European Cup. apparently Mitrovic as been offered £300k a week , now i think he’s decent player but that’s just crazy I’d go there and play for that without hesitation. I’m not sure if FFP is actually up to FIFA. Isn’t it just a UEFA concept? I doubt they’ll end up finding some way into an EUR champions league. I wouldn’t be shocked if we do see a more prominent role for the World Club Cup (+ an expansion of the teams in it). Edit: I also wouldn’t be upset by the prospect of seeing more EUR teams go up against clubs from South America (for example).

If I was offered 200k a week by say Real Madrid I’d take that over 300k from Saudi every day. Each to their own I guess

That league will implode within a decade. I hope so anyway

It would also depend a bit what I was doing in my career at the time (but not that much). If I was Bellingham (for example) I’d take the few hundred k a week at RM. He can earn more later and will get big offers for many years. However, Mitrovic is near 29 and he’ll never win anything barring the Championship. So, why not make the most money he can for himself, his kids and their children in the future?

Sodomy = 5 years prison. Theft = Amputation. FFP = Fill your great big sport-washing boots.

Oil built the past two World Cups.
Oil just won the Champions League.
Oil has a lease on the Premier League title.

We could, well you know, Just Stop Oil. Yeah, I thought that as I typed. If you don't like oil I'm not sure football is the sport for you, not at the top of the game anyway!

Won’t be long before champions league games are being played in Saudi. That's actually a really good point which not thought of. Some of the players of potential giving up the chance to win what is really the pinnacle of their careers in winning the European Cup. The FIFA World Cup will likely get expanded and could soon overtake the Champions League as the big footballing prize.

PL clubs are rinsing these Saudi clubs aren’t they?
Any older player who they can get decent money for is off.

I think Citeh could've got more than £30m for Mahrez?... be interesting to see who they bring in to replace him.

3 year deal for Henderson. He deserves a golden ticket to end his career. An outstanding professional who’s made the absolute best of his ability and a thoroughly nice chap by all accounts

Robbie Fowler is managing one of the 2nd tier teams over there, they want steady progress for the club and to build slowly, apparently.

amp.theguardian.com/football/2022/mar/25/england-players-shocked-at-qatar-human-rights-abuses-says-hendersonDoesn’t it just show that for all the gestures and protests that where morals are concerned they can still be bought. No issue with JH or any of the other pros going over there but don’t make out that you’re on moral higher ground than everyone else then move over there for big bucks. It really does stink of hypocrisy and makes one question how sincere these footballers are in what they say. I can 100 percent understand why the LGBT aren’t happy. I can see this issue rolling on. I’d love to see a reporter have the balls to ask him or Gerrard what they think of there employers human rights record.

The only way IMO, for this league to survive is if football can be part of the national fabric and psych? Will Daddy Saudi be giving baby Saudi a Stoke shirt the minute he is born? Will there be a ‘when Saturday comes’ anticipation and will season tickets be cherished heirlooms? Without money football can exist at this level forever in England. That’s why I pay scant regard to this Saudi bubble.

There’s loopholes everywhere for the likes of Newcastle and Chelsea to exploit yet if there’s the slightest sign of a breach of FFP by a smaller club they have the book thrown at them. Totally corrupt. To his credit though at least he’s honest.

That’s why I pay scant regard to this Saudi bubble. With the level of middle East money owning top European teams you can see them creating a super League though, for which they'd have easily enough interest. In the same way PGA golf is combining with LIV. This feels different to when China started to sign better players.

If I was a player at the end of my career, I understand how it'd be almost impossible to turn down the money on offer.
But the fact remains, it's still a country that beheads and maims people. It's still the country responsible for 9/11, the singular most powerful turning point of the world in our lifetime, it's still a country that murders journalists in other countries and countless other grim incidents. The state still owns Newcastle United, through their sovereign wealth fund.
The House of Saud should rightly be up there with the worst families of all time.
Now they're on a program of sportswashing to cover themselves.
Am I right in saying the PL teams (especially Chelsea) have links to some of the teams, therefore they can pump up the prices to ease FFP over here?
They should be avoided at all costs in my opinion, and if Stoke were hypothetically taken over by these animals, like Newcastle, I'd have to stop going.
