Personally I think it needs something like this. The premier league has bossed our leagues and had the monopoly for a long time.

Ronaldo and Benzema both old. Kante past his best. Neves from a side close to relegation.
In 2 years the Saudi league will be forgotten once they've wasted their money on the leftovers.
Europe will always be the place to be for a footballer.

I think I'm fine with Saudi pouring money into British clubs, but it looks a tougher league to grow than China or the US.
When they get some megastar living the footy player lifestyle though, will they be above the law?

Isn’t the oil beginning to dry up around the globe’s oil wells? Electric is starting to gain momentum. With a combination of electric taking a large share of the automobile market and less oil to suck out of the ground, won’t Saudi monetary power just collapse like a pack of cards? Oil is one of those topics where you can find a likely convincing argument either way depending on who has the self-interest. I don't believe there's a chance of oil reserves running out any time soon. Oil consumption will continue to grow for many years, even with the continuous attacks against it. Electric infrastructure & production will have to improve massively. The only viable alternative to fossil fuels for that production is nuclear not your windmills which are, incidentally, built with petroleum based products. Just stop oil idiots should spend a bit more time focusing on world deforestation. The lungs of the world are being decimated.

This is way more of a panic for the men in suits than it is for the average english football fan. They're worried that their "product" could become devalued and their ability to make fortunes is diminished. It's not about ordinary football supporters.
Even if the chinese/saudi leagues started gobbling up some of the top talent, and english football becomes less of a draw and everyone has to scale back, is that really a bad thing for most of us? Not that I think it'll happen but, worst comes to worst, english football moves away from being the most watched product and more towards argentinian/brazillian football; where many of the top players move abroad but they still have competitive leagues loved by the fans and a vibrant football culture in those countries. (and their international teams aren't too shabby)
At least that's my reading of the situation. We're being told we should be concerned because the money men are concerned but, unless I'm missing something, I'm actually enjoying the thought that it's giving some of the vultures sleepless nights. The premiership is the most watched football league in the world but who has it benefited really? It wouldn't change a thing for any of us if the premiership was far less popular.

Europe will always be the place to be for a footballer. Which in itself is sad. It'd be great if Latin American, African etc. clubs could compete with the top 4 leagues in Europe. Even most of Europe can't compete with them. I'd be suprised if a club outside of England, Italy, Spain, or Germany wins the Champions League (or whatever it becomes) in the next 15 years. Since 2010, it's been dominated by Spanish and English clubs.

Fine by me if every player, in it solely for the money, leaves English football and goes to play in Saudi.
The best possible outcome for English football and English football fans.
Win Win

Can’t we entice them to take Gayle?
They’re signing everybody else.

Have to admit that I expected more from Gerrard.
He clearly had no decent alternatives.

I think eventually Saudi or China will be the big league in football and the prem will go the way of serie A in Italy .
When I was a kid all the top players , maradonna , Zola , van basten , Gullit, George weah ...Souness, gazza , Paul Ince , David platt , mark hately...all went for the big money in serie A and everyone in the world wanted to watch serie A
How many kids do you see these days , sitting around in their Fila shell suits watching Serie A?
The prem overtook serie A. Nike and Adidas overtook Fila
And things will change again.
Look at Budweiser, for decades the biggest brewery in America, now they can't give the stuff away .
Like Budweiser, Fila , serie A, someone somewhere will make a mistake and the new kid in town ( surely Saudi or China in the world of football?) Will take over .

If I recall rightly they put a 100 % transfer fee tax on any foreign signing. Effectively doubling the cost. Who knows how this will play out with Saudi, hopefully it prospers to be honest.

Why does Coatesy buy the Saudi club el dog and duck, sign Bonham off us for 50 million, allowing us to spend millions and get promoted without breaking ffp? In reality, we'd have alex Neil spending 15 million on ched evans and end up with rowett mk2

The premier league since its inception has been a greed driven self indulgent load of shite. The more financial damage done to it the better. Mainly serves wankers like Man United, Liverpool and Arsenal etc.

I think the multi ownership where clubs can buy off parent clubs to get round FFP is going to make the gap wider.

It won’t last, there’s one thing missing from all these leagues (China, Japan, US, Saudi). They don’t “love the game”. That is very important, more important than any bankrolling. These billionaires will soon get bored when crowds don’t show and players leave in their droves due to family reasons and not feeling part of a team/club ethos. A players well being and fan participation is imperative in a successful league above everything else. That’s why the European leagues will never die, it’s in their blood.

How long will this last before it implodes like the Chinese league did? 3 years tops I reckon. The Chinese league didn't implode. I posted about it earlier in the thread, but a 100% tax was added to incoming transfers of foreign players and more emphasis put on youth development, which may start to come to fruition in 5 years or so.
