Looking to diversify away from oil as it slowly becomes less relevant and move into the 'religion' of global sport. Isn’t the oil beginning to dry up around the globe’s oil wells? Electric is starting to gain momentum. With a combination of electric taking a large share of the automobile market and less oil to suck out of the ground, won’t Saudi monetary power just collapse like a pack of cards? Exactly my point.. and hopefully so..

It not be long before JD start selling the shirts from the big name players over there. I imagine Turkey will be awash with them this summer along with the usual Real Madrid and Barcelona tops.

So Chelsea run up massive losses then use clubs linked to their ownership to start wiping them out? Bigger scandal in the making than Man City’s financial doping IMO.

Exactly, looks like they're going to ship about 6/7 of their high earners off to Saudi Arabia for large transfer fees in some cases I'm surprised there's not been more written about this........

Sky Italy's Gianluca Di Marzio speaking on Sky Sports:
"Saudi, in this moment, they want every player.
"They want Son Heung-min of Tottenham. They have offered him €120m for a four-year contract, and €60m to Tottenham.
"I don't think Daniel Levy will sell Son, but Saudi Arabia are trying to convince every player."
Son rules out Saudi move Tottenham forward Heung-Min Son has no interest in a move to Saudi Arabia.
Speaking on international duty, Son told reporters in South Korea: "I've many things to do in Premier League. Money doesn't matter to me now, and the pride of playing football, to play in my favourite league is important. I'll prepare well when I'm back to Spurs.
"I want to play more for Tottenham in the Premier League."

And then probably loan them/others back. No matter what rules get set up to “protect the game”, individuals are always going to look to exploit them to make profit/fame.

Seems proper weird fanboy stuff Different era now, can get any shirt delivered to the house within a day. Back in the 90s you were deemed cool if you could tell your mates what for example the Maccabi Haifa away kit looked like. These days the kids be able tell you there starting line up via Fifa mind.

I get that bit but fawning over X or Y player, who 9 times out of 10 has no connection to you, other than you saying you support that team he is in, then drop them as soon as he moves, that’s not normal

Seems proper weird fanboy stuff I’ve always seen it and kind of understood it in the undeveloped leagues where football is not the main culture. Could you ever imagine outside of international games a scouser having rashford on the back of his shirt or a Boca juniors fan having a Messi top on.

Bernardo Silva on his way there. Looks like PSG are still the front runners at the moment along with Barca, but Barca need a well structured deal because of FFP. I get the wages are going to be astronomical, but purely for footballing reasons, a player like Bernardo Silva is just too good to waste away in the Saudi League.

It looks like its the possible effect on competitiveness in the Prem League which is an issue here
It looks like Chelsea are setting up an agreement where they can sell on their biggest earners when they don't need them anymore, freeing them up to make other big investments so they dont breach any FFP rules. So they can sign a player on long contracts and sell them on for a guaranteed huge fee when they are passed their sell by date here, and then have the capacity and resources to replace them with a younger, more able model when they need to.

To do that though, you need more than just the players. You need the grassroots set ups. You need a highly competitive infrastructure running throughout the ages. You need coaches and you need training facilities. thisisafrica.me/arts-and-culture/moroccos-focus-on-grassroots-football-pays-off/?amp=1 Morocco began to do some of this years ago. They all take time to build. In the interim, you need inspiration and reason for people to see it as a viable career.

The Saudi crowds are similar to those in the Scottish Premier League, the Chinese crowds are very respectable. I'm always surprised that the national team does so poorly as clearly the appetite for the game is there in the country and the pool of players is huge...............

I agree and that's where I was coming from mentioning China and youth and with Morocco. Morocco didn't need to pay ridiculous sums for players though - they started with the grassroots. And China realised that those massive fees for overseas players weren't helping all that much, so it's not a valid argument (for those saying) their league has failed because they've stopped splashing millions on overseas players. For inspiration, I reckon pro's playing in the biggest national leagues (like the Premier League) is far better than the likes of Ronaldo or Arnautovic spending a year or two playing in the local national league. Morocco again have set the example much more than Saudi Arabia and especially China. Football in China could explode if they get a couple of key players at top teams in Europe. Look at snooker (forgetting the fact half the Chinese snooker pros seem to have been banned). I do wonder if China is physically too big to get a decent national league going.

The most corrupt club in football. It’s basically cheating. They should have had all there titles stripped after the Abramavic business. If they’re allowed to get away with this latest bit of shady business football truly is corrupt. When you look at the way we and other clubs are hamstrung re FFP it really is a joke.

The same people are the powers that be, more or less. They are steering the ship. It’s same with our Government, and many others, the already rich and powerful have unique access to decision making and steer the ship from behind, using a front that appears to be democratic, or independent, on the surface.
