It's Cousins isn't it? He's leaving.

Martin said we were looking to appoint one. www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-john-coates-investment-8300940Changes in recruitment departmentStoke are in the process of filling key vacancies in the recruitment department ahead of the impending exits of head of football operations Andy Cousins and chief scout Tommy Coakley. Cousins and Coakley, both brought in by Michael O'Neill, have been important figures as personnel and budgets have been overhauled over the last three years, including in the January window, but are set to leave at the end of the season. Technical director Ricky Martin gave a hint at what is coming next at the Q&A when he was asked if there was a chance of Stoke looking to shop in the overseas market this summer. "Yeah, there is," he said. "Regarding recruitment there is a lot of work going on (in that department). We're in the final stages of appointing a data analyst for the first team, which I think is really important. "We've also got an agency to help us recruit a head of recruitment and potentially a chief scout.

We should have just paid him off on Feb 1st and got someone else in if the goal was to change direction after January.

Seem well thought-of at Cov - but his departure at Blackpool after 4 months seems mysterious www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/sport/football/blackpool-fc/a-big-blow-coventry-city-expert-provides-insight-into-blackpools-crucial-off-field-appointments-3937377“Chris has been instrumental in bringing in a lot of players to the club who have been hugely successful. “He’s probably got three big successes, with one of the biggest in recent years - in terms of his ability and value to the team - being Gustavo Hamer. “He identified him at PEC Zwolle in the Netherlands. They bought him for just over £1m and he’s been nothing short of brilliant. I don’t know what he’s worth now, but it’s upwards of £10m I would have thought. “Viktor Gyokeres is another one who was identified as an up-and-coming player from Brighton. “He was struggling to get game time (on loan) at Swansea, so he initially came to Coventry on loan for half a season and he then went on to score 19 goals in his first full season. “A lot of his development is down to the coaches as well but it was Badlan and his team who first identified what a quality player he was. "He’s on a full-time contract now and he’s also worth a lot of money. All sorts of figures have been bandied around and he’s been linked with Premier League clubs. Kyle McFadzean, one of his teammates, even said recently Coventry should be holding out for £30m for him! “The other one is Callum O’Hare, who is another fans’ favourite and another huge part of the team. “They picked him up on loan from Aston Villa before eventually managing to bring him in on a permanent deal on a free transfer, so that was another very shrewd acquisition. “Every transfer window he’s linked to higher-placed clubs. Burnley were desperate to sign him during the summer but he got injured, so that all fell through.

To be fair if he's responsible for the Hamer, O'Hare and Gyokeres signings get him in........

He did an excellent job at Coventry and was a big part of their rise from League Two. Some of their signings have been excellent. Finally, this would represent some progress off the pitch and at long last some pedigree in the recruitment department.

Will come to Stoke and be told he has to find ageing british prem players on big money.
Doesn't matter who we recruit, we always fish in the same pond when it comes to players.

It’s always British, but Surridge, Brown, Wilmot, Thompson, TOB make up the majority of the players who we’ve actually spent money on since Cousins had arrived. We’ve padded that out with a lot of freebies though.

Was, by some accounts, fired from Blackpool for leaking team news while pissed up in Lytham on a night out.
Only there 4 months mind, and obviously seems to have done well elsewhere

I don't think that's quite true is it? Hughes/Cruickshank looked to Germany and his Barca/Chelsea connections Rowett absolutely did look at 'experienced', plodding Championship players, as did Jones in the main, with a sprinkling of the players he'd spied in League 1. MON had Cousins who gave us various ex-Man City youth prospects and Aldridge who seemed to look at southern-based clubs This guy seems like a promising appointment and I don't imagine he'll be 'told' to find anyone.

Yet despite all that we seem to always do deals with Barnsley and Burnley, Celina was nearly signed under MON and then was signed by Neil. There's more examples too but I can't be arsed to look them up.

Think the Burnley thing is just one of those quirks to be honest, it goes back about 30 years!

He followed Webber to Norwich from Wolves, and became his head of European scouting, with Webber saying his Euro knowledge was "encyclopaedic" www.canaries.co.uk/content/key-appointments-made-to-recruitment-department"With Chris, he’s always had a real firm handle on Europe. His knowledge of foreign players is pretty much encyclopaedic. "We’ve spoken about being open-minded in terms of who we sign. That includes foreign players and Chris has a really strong working knowledge of this level. "They both know how I work, which is important. When you have people who understand the methodology it helps."

In that press release, they say that one potential reason he left/was let go was because he got a bar name mixed up. If so, that’s just pathetic.

This might be a really stupid question - how does the turnover of staff count towards FFP? We're obviously having a major clear-out behind the scenes and will presumably be paying the headhunters a reasonable fee, so does all of that factor into the FFP calculations?
Not that appointing the right people in these roles isn't crucial, I'm just curious.

If we do appoint Badlan hopefully we can quickly tap into his knowledge of the European market.
Players who would be at the top end of Blackpool's budget should be well within reach for us.
Here's hoping.
