“In the process of appointing a data manager”. Biggest window since relegation. Looming for last three years. Jesus. This is what stuck out to me too, we don't have any data analysis in our first team/recruitment? Are we really that far behind how other clubs operate? We've definitely got that kind of thing in the recruitment department. Can only think we're padding it out, or Martin's bringing in his own man/men? www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-financial-fair-play-6748781There are some highly-respected analysts at Stoke too, like Scott Coomber, who are becoming an important part of the recruitment machine.

You would hope we have, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we didn't! This appointment looks like a positive one, especially if it means we finally start looking at targets outside of the UK again.

I think the wording was 'first team data analyst'. I genuinely don't know if that's the same job as a 'recruitment data analyst'.

I think I’ll apply. I’ve already done an analysis of last season and discovered we lost more games than we won. I think I’m onto something!

This might be a really stupid question - how does the turnover of staff count towards FFP? We're obviously having a major clear-out behind the scenes and will presumably be paying the headhunters a reasonable fee, so does all of that factor into the FFP calculations? Not that appointing the right people in these roles isn't crucial, I'm just curious. I imagine it plays a part but the respective wages would be negligible Vs players?

With a few weeks to go until the window opens on arguably our most crucial recruitment in years and we are only now looking at key recruitment and scouting appointments...jesus Hates Christ!! One of our major failings have been in recruitment over the years and we still look threadbare. Didn't we have that Millwall fan magazine editor as our data analyst? What the hell was Badlans doing at Blackpool after some major successes at Coventry...due diligence please on this SCFC

Should have known.

Makes you wonder what the salary is like. In my area good data analysts are ~£100k/year at entry, or "one tenth of a Dwight Gayle". I imagine it's a fair bit less in Stoke than LA!

Will come to Stoke and be told he has to find ageing british prem players on big money. Doesn't matter who we recruit, we always fish in the same pond when it comes to players. Should be working with the parameters set by Martin which he outlined after the Jan transfer window. - Key player and re-sell assets - Established Championship players - High potential and loan players - Experienced players and cultural architects - Emerging talent

I read on twitter that he was sacked at Blackpool for releasing team news before games, is that true?

I read on twitter that he was sacked at Blackpool for releasing team news before games, is that true? Apparently so. avftt.co.uk/index.php?threads/chris-badlan-gone.42051/Doesn't seem the most heinous crime in the world. But maybe looking for an excuse to get rid? Their local journo says it was clear he "wasn't the right fit" - whatever that means. Interesting to note, though, that he brought Josh Bowler in at Blackpool in January.

Sounds like a bit of a lad doesn't he. One of the reasons he was sacked was because said something about club legend Jimmy Armfield. Once he starts being derogatory about club legends like George Berry he'll be gone.

Get the feeling one of the first posts from that thread will come in useful here “ Well that lasted long. What a fuck up this club is.”

On the surface of things that looks like it would be a pretty good appointment, did a long stint at Brighton too, may have laid the ground work to facilitate their excellent recent ascendancy

It didn't excite me too much, West Brom tend to sign well known players however he did work at Brighton pre West Brom that does give me some hope.
