And let him spend another £50m on shite? No ta. Yes he didn’t spend the money too well but he’s got an average side fighting for a playoff place on the last game. He’s probably learned lessons since his time with us They spent a bit of money this year, don't be fooled. Also The Den is becoming a bit of a tourist trap, and there is definitely more cash coming in now.

Not sure I get the point you’re making - most of these made decent foreign manager appointments when it mattered - but Leicester in free fall, Wolves, Bournemouth and Palace struggling and Luton one of those odd exceptions……sadly all more attractive propositions to new owners than Stoke both logistically and in terms of records of success……… Personally I wouldn’t trade the Coates ownership for any other as they are part of the fabric of the club - folks seriously suggesting new owners should be found are deluded - I look at Hull, Cardiff, Blackburn and others who have had ownership nightmares and wouldn’t want to see us throwing the baby out with the bath water…. Bournemouth more attractive than Stoke? In what metric please? They're a traditional lower league club punching massively above their weight in an 11k capacity stadium I’d love to know how any of those clubs are better “in terms of records and success” as well. With the arguable exception of Leicester they’re just small to middling clubs who’ve won fuck all just like us. You’d have to be committed to something approaching self-loathing to distort Luton and Bournemouth into rampant historical success machines compared to Stoke.

We have had some great managers since haven’t we. Nobody knows if things would’ve been different had he made it to 2nd season. Let’s be honest stoke have been the wrong fit for every manager since Hughes. Whoever had been manager at that time would have struggled like we are now Just because we’ve appointed shit managers since doesn’t mean he was good. What would’ve been different in his second season? Would be suddenly start signing players who fit his system? Would he stop throwing players publicly under the bus? Would he stop setting the team up like we were Forest Green away at Man City, even if we were at home to Wigan? Managers rarely change their spots. He signed Zian Flemming from the dutch league, who has scored and assisted a shit load of goals for them and is the exact type of player we needed under him. So he's definitely learned some lessons.

Personally I think we should have stuck with Rowett We definitely should have given him longer. He is a good manager He's a massive bottler. Bottled it at Derby Bottled it at Stoke Just bottled it at Millwall An absolute disaster for us.

And Leicester were hardly habitual winners before the Thai takeover- in fact they were the poor East Mids relation compared to Forest and Derby.

Bournemouth more attractive than Stoke? In what metric please? They're a traditional lower league club punching massively above their weight in an 11k capacity stadium They are in the prosperous south of England They are a premier League club They are in a nice part of the world, lots of lovely houses costing millions and overlooking the Dorset coast for players on premier League wages to buy. They have higher revenue than us . They are in a part of the country likely to experience economic growth and population growth They have a better squad than we do ...our best player this season, Pearson was on loan from them..there squad is so much better than ours , they don't need him. They are currently in the Premier League, of course they have a better squad and bigger revenue than us (most Championship clubs have better squads than us right now) 😃 It won't last forever. Using that logic, we're a bigger club than Sheff Weds as we palmed Lee Gregory off to them. The rest of your post about cliffs and the prosperous south is completely irrelevant, based on that Truro City should have suitors queueing around the block. Stoke might not be aesthetically pleasing but it's relatively close to several big cities, Cheshire etc

Well Eddie Howe manages Newcastle (in the north) these days. If it was as simplistic as you're making out then Ryan Reynolds and his mate would have bought Torquay Utd (southern, nice coastal views) over Wrexham.

Yeh there are exceptions but there is a general bias in my view and Howe became the darling of the media and made Bournemouth everyone’s favourite small guy - the north get more than their share of rogue owners and there’s less money about - bog roll barons and chicken wholesalers don’t cut it anymore - so back to my original albeit meandering point I don’t think we could find anyone to replace the Coates family without risking going the full Wigan, Hull, Bolton, Cardiff etc etc….. ……the Wrexham thing is batshit crazy but I wish them well - the owners fuckin love em !!!

He’s probably learned lessons since his time with us ‘Didn’t spend the money too well’ is quite the understatement. He was just totally unsuited to us. He’s a small time manager who gets teams punching above their weight. He wasn’t the man to take a promotion favourite with a big budget up. The owners have failed dismally at appointing managers who know how to spend big money relative to the league they are in, as far as I can see. Their positive track record was with 2 managers who could get a tune out of outcasts and misfits, in the main. Hughes started to spend more and fucked it up and then Rowett was employed to splash the cash even though he had no history of success with big spending teams.. every manager since has been equally clueless with how to approach a decent budget.. unfortunately Neil fits the mold. Given he has been tasked with overseeing the assembly of a new squad the best we can hope is that he can pull it off, even though he's been so poor this season in getting a tune out of the squad he took over.

I'm sure opinions expressed on this thread have changed considerably in the last few weeks.
Clearly the owners have given Neil freedom to act and have not just cleared out the dressing room but also the "backroom ".
The number of foreign players is a huge step in a different direction. Naturally we all hope this brings success on the field, but I also think it is a golden opportunity for the Coates to maximise the exposure of the Stoke City and Bet365 brands worldwide.
This is not just in the countries the players come from but also in countries like the US, Canada, etc. where huge numbers of immigrants follow the players from the country of their birth across the globe. We have seen how interest followed some previous foreign players on Oatcake.
I hope the owners are geared up to take advantage of the worldwide interest there will now be in the club.

Owners who constantly back managers, look after the fans, never increase ticket prices, Stoke fans through and through
Get them out of the club for some unknown

Has anything changed from their perspective?Everything still seems almost entirely manager-driven. If Neil leaves for whatever reason, do Martin, Devlin et al stay on?

It looks like we have a good structure to the club at the moment but the test will come when Neil is replaced at some stage in the future. Will the likes of Martin and Dublin go or stay and if they go, will they be replaced or will we go back to what we were? I remain far from convinced that where we are is nothing other than a manager led revolution, which isn't the way to do it. Far too early to be chucking posters under the bus.

But if the system we’ve now implemented is seen to work it may convince the owners that it’s a taste sensation and they might just drag the club kicking and screaming fully into the 21C and introduce the full fat independent version Director of Football.

He is a good manager The lesson Rowett has now learned is that whatever the circumstances do not take on the club’s supporters. Once he decided to do that he was doomed to failure. He is a good manager playing a certain robust style, I think we will be more satisfied with the present manager and his style of play

I have a feeling Tricky doesn't see himself as Neil's inferior (you'd have to be a complete idiot not to recognise the opportunity at Stoke) and Jared isn't Neil's man either. Weren't they talking long term structure? Obviously let's hope Neil is successful but don't be surprised that when the time comes Tricky and Jared will be steering the next managerial appointment.

If they’re not a package that’s better than I thought especially if they were to end up driving recruitment if AN did end up going and actually looked to recruit to a blueprint rather than recruit a new polar opposite one.
