I think we all need to calm down and log off until August, the hysteria on here is unbelievable. I see this as a fresh start, I think we will have a very competitive squad next season. It's not really a fresh start is it? We have a manager, for the third time in about four years, going into the summer with his head completely frazzled, thrashing about in the long grass trying to find the right formula only this time the poor sod has to build an entirely new team and squad to boot. All while the owner is probably lobbing money into a black hole whilst giddily jumping up and down shouting "oooo goody, new toys" like a three year old child*. We might just end up with a good squad and christ we are due some luck as supporters. *He most probably isn't. His head will most certainly be fixed into his hands!

The point I was making was we could end up doing a Bradford without the family, Bradford where in the prem league a few years back and slid down the leagues, perhaps Charlton would suit you better seen has your not picking Well we've been in Charlton's current position more than once under the Coates Family so it's hardly untrodden territory. A better couple of questions are why couldn't we have been more like Burnley following relegation, and is our narrow minded obsession with cookie cutter British managers holding us back? I cannot argue with them points mate your dead right but like I said it could be worse

Seriously now when are people going to wake up and realise that they are by far the biggest issue at this club? The one constant in this 7 years of misery.Sacking another manager is just a facade. It will change nothing. Surely not the ONLY constant...or are you a JCL?

How many fans/supporters would shed a tear if they said (the Coates family) we have had enough we have decided to sell the club. Not many I would say judging by the mood & the last few years of complete crap we have all put up with. be careful what you wish for. I'd be gutted personally if they left. You prefer an unknown foreign investor with dodgy motives, no football background and no connection with either the club or the town ? The leagues are littered with "big money" ownership failures, guys who are never seen at the grounds and are massively unpopular. Man Utd anyone ? I accept the owners have made some really bad decisions as well as a long period of success, but imagine if people got what they wanted and we ended up with the likes of Venkys. It's all well and good saying you aren't bothered who buys it as long as its not the current crop. But the stakes are higher than a managerial swap and you can't exactly overlook it and just assume: change=positive, it's just daft.

Why can't you, sorry? Has someone else overseen the decline? Has someone else been appointing the managers who've signed the players? and how many of those managers were you unhappy with from day 1 when appointed Paul Lambert for starters. A catastrophic appointment that we've yet to recover from

Add Rowett as the support act. Personally I think we should have stuck with Rowett He absolutely burnt his bridges with the fans though. And his summer spending left absolutely fuck tons to be desired. Had he not upset everyone after Bolton, he'd have still been in post till at least the end of that season, maybe even into the second season IMO, given the boards penchant for giving people a chance, rightly or wrongly.

The Bojan thing was to an extent a bit of a red herring with Rowett. The clamour for Bojan wouldn’t have been half as strong if Rowett had used some of the biggest Stoke City transfer budget in history to sign a modicum of creativity. Not only did he not do that but he expunged the last vestiges of the creativity there was from the team. Then wondered why we couldn’t beat Rotherham and Birmingham and Wigan at home.

For every Charlton there's another club doing really well. More than half our league existence has been spent in the top flight, this idea we're some really small club given a rare decade of top flight football is bizarre and untrue.
p.s. Rowett wasted an absolute fortune on crap.

Add Rowett as the support act. Personally I think we should have stuck with Rowett The team Rowett put together was awful given the amount he spent. Sure, once he was here he needed more time, but his relationship with the crowd was dreadful and possibly even contrived in order that he could get a massive payout. His appointment was representative of a continuing lack of vision from the owners as far as I'm concerned.

If the Coates family were to walk away it would spell the end of our club as a credible Premier league proposition (IMHO) - I look at Wigan and see how they've managed since Whelan exited - I know there are BIG differences between us & the Latics but the money and the emotional investment are critical for clubs such as ours. There are a dozen or more attractive clubs to any external investor and we are not attractive in any shape or form - smallish catchment area, mediocre stadium, highly unfashionable and poor legacy record of winning stuff etc etc...... They are however guilty of appointing some very poor "Professionals" from the boardroom down since the demise of Hughes and have never brought in anyone who can navigate us through the demands of the modern game that has changed out of all recognition this past decade or so, both on the field and as importantly, off it. So lets stop the daft calls for the family to relinquish ownership as there will be no-one else barring dodgy money-laundering charlatans looking to asset strip or otherwise exploit us - and hope that they can bring in some pretty canny & ruthless individuals that know the business and have some sort of track record of maximising potential....... Brighton? Brentford? Luton? Bournemouth? Wolves? Leicester? Palace? Not sure I get the point you’re making - most of these made decent foreign manager appointments when it mattered - but Leicester in free fall, Wolves, Bournemouth and Palace struggling and Luton one of those odd exceptions……sadly all more attractive propositions to new owners than Stoke both logistically and in terms of records of success……… Personally I wouldn’t trade the Coates ownership for any other as they are part of the fabric of the club - folks seriously suggesting new owners should be found are deluded - I look at Hull, Cardiff, Blackburn and others who have had ownership nightmares and wouldn’t want to see us throwing the baby out with the bath water….

He’s probably learned lessons since his time with us ‘Didn’t spend the money too well’ is quite the understatement. He was just totally unsuited to us. He’s a small time manager who gets teams punching above their weight. He wasn’t the man to take a promotion favourite with a big budget up.

The harshness of his sacking at Birmingham added to his legend. 2018 play offs he was managing Derby in the play offs. 1st leg they were 1-0 up at home and on top. Then, after an hour, they retreated and sat on a 1-0 lead.....at home in the 1st leg of the play offs. Very conservative outlook. Then, a month later, we went to great effort and expense to poach him. Our very clear mission statement was to get promoted straight back. Rowett wasn't right for that. Stupidly, he was given 40m to spend and it was all wasted. That little phase is the biggest reason we're stuck in a rut now.

What would’ve been different in his second season? Would be suddenly start signing players who fit his system? Would he stop throwing players publicly under the bus? Would he stop setting the team up like we were Forest Green away at Man City, even if we were at home to Wigan? Managers rarely change their spots.

They're a traditional lower league club punching massively above their weight in an 11k capacity stadium They are in the prosperous south of England They are a premier League club They are in a nice part of the world, lots of lovely houses costing millions and overlooking the Dorset coast for players on premier League wages to buy. They have higher revenue than us . They are in a part of the country likely to experience economic growth and population growth They have a better squad than we do ...our best player this season, Pearson was on loan from them..there squad is so much better than ours , they don't need him.

I can't see a declining club ,in a declining town, in a declining part of the country ( Stoke ) being attractive to anyone.
We don't even own any land or stadium ( the coates family own it ) so you can't even say we have real estate.
Looks like we are stuck with the Coates family.
But it would be helpful if they could stop running the club like their toy train set and appoint a powerful competent DOF to run the club at an operating level. sheikh mansour manages to own man city while letting the DoF ( a former Barcelona team mate of Pep's) run the club and man city have a lot more on their plate than Stoke .
It can be done, they just need to do it .

Jon Coates clearly thinks he's a football man, appointing himself on to the technical board proved that. Other than being stinking rich, they off fuck all productively. What use is all the money in the world, if you're braindead to go with it.

John Coates' ego must be driving him to show his dad that anything he could do (getting the club to the PL and prospering) he can also do. It must also be in the psyche of a billionaire to think they can do anything, including running a football club.
