He's got no more than 10 games the beginning of next season. Start bad he's gone.

Just listening to him on P&G. Doesn't sound like a man under pressure at all. The abject dross that's been served up is acceptable to the hierarchy of this club. No urgency and desire to improve. They're taking the piss. Our epitaph will be What's the fuss about!

I don’t know what the answer is here. I really don’t. His performance has been shocking but it’s obvious he’s staying to oversee the biggest summer in recent memory. Yesterday I posted I was excited for the summer and see how we shape up, and that’s still the case. However, do I have faith in this club to get it right? Im really not sure.
Get it wrong and it’s a disaster. Massive, massive few months.

It’s highly likely that none of the back four from today will get anywhere near the first XI next season so not sure what folk expect. Smallbone is off, we don’t own Pearson and Powell is in his way. We’re bare bones so let’s put things into perspective and take a few deep breaths and wait.

Let's be honest he walked into a complete shitshow. He hasn't signed any players on permanent contracts and he obviously took the job on the premise that there would be money to spend this summer. He obviously needs to start next season a lot better than we did this but he needs a chance to shape his own team and will live or die next season by results.

He’s managed to make us worse. Quite a lot worse.
I was willing to get behind him but now….with regret….he needs to go. He’s not the man to turn this club around.

The prospect of Neil building his own team after the season we've just had does fill me with concern. However, I just don't know what the alternative is. If we sack him and his entourage now, we're starting from scratch again, and have a squad of about 10 or 11 mostly poor-quality players. We'd be wasting valuable time in getting a new man, his backroom staff, drawing up another list of targets, evaluating the futures of players out of contract etc...we'd be halfway through June before we were in a position to sign anyone. We simply can't afford to waste any time in recruitment this summer. There'll be a list of targets that Neil and Ricky Martin have compiled over the last few months, and we need to be on it right away in getting them into the building as early as we can. The players he brought in this season were, on the whole, a lot better than what he inherited, and formation-wise, he does seem to be a 4-3-3 man, which is the template he'll surely recruit around. That at least gives me some hope that if he can bring in his own players and get them playing the way he wants to play, next season might be a significant improvement on the dross we've seen this year. I'm not saying I think he's a great manager, but I don't know what anyone else could have realistically done with the unbalanced, half-arsed rabble he inherited from O'Neil. In fact, I'd argue that he's done a reasonable job in steering them to safety because that squad he inherited was absolutely rancid. 100% agree with all this…my question is this…the owners must know about the general unrest within the fan base…so when will they make a statement in an attempt to reassure us that next season will be better ?

It's extraordinarily hard to come up with any positives by keeping Neil in the hot-seat. As I've mentioned before, most clubs in this division would be saying "ta-ra" after the latest stagnant run of games. Let's check those results again, we've lost to Wigan, QPR, Bristol City and WBA at HOME and barely registered any shot worthy of the name against Brum. It's a disaster and if Neil is the man for the job then I'm scratching my head trying to understand how shit it actually has to get before he's shown the door. I'm sure he'll be given the summer to buy a load of players, we'd better hope and pray that this at least goes well. Otherwise, maps to Cambridge might be needed.

The whole season was a write-off the minute that the board decided they wanted to keep faith with MON at the end of last year, when it was clear as day he'd run out of ideas and seemed a beaten, depressed figure. Lo and behold, another shit transfer window later, and they were forced to sack him with the season only a few weeks old. AN has the best chance any manager has had since Rowett to start again, free of most of the mess other managers have left behind. We have to judge him on next year and not allow this waste of a season to become baggage.

Last summer after winning the play offs with Sunderland, he signed players and prepared for the season. Those players got into the play offs today So he knows how to sign good players
However, he left Sunderland to come to Stoke, because he thought the Sunderland board hadn’t supported him enough in the summer window (Plus a few bob more in salary I guess)
Stoke’s board basically gave him a free shot this season and said, “don’t worry, next summer, you can have a war chest to spend”
I’m not sure we should do another Rowett and give him the money

However, if Neil isn't given time next season and the crowd are on to him and the players from the first game, then that's going to be counter-productive. We'll end up with yet another new bloke in charge, inheriting someone else's squad. In fact, next year would be a carbon copy of this year. We either sack him now and everything's up in the air again, or we give him a decent amount of time with what will hopefully be a much better squad and get behind him/the team. Sitting there ready to start howling at every mistake and getting on the team's backs from game one next year won't help anyone.

They can’t expect people to be patient if it’s not going right. The sensible decision is sacking him. Nothing else at the moment clears the decks and helps the club as much as that would. But it isn’t going to happen. So we’ll back him and hope we win enough to start with so fans are placated.

That's a total contradiction from the first sentence to the last. It’s the exact situation that happened. So you're agreeing he did great at Sunderland and put together a squad that has gone on to the play offs even under Mobray and that he knows how to sign good players. Then you don't think he should be trusted with any money? I'm still trying figure that agreement out.

That wouldn't be sensible, it'd be suicidal given the mess the squad's in. Who would you bring in? Because whoever it is, I doubt they'd have done much better with this awful squad.

But if the first few games go badly there is no doubt that the crowd will be on his back. I really don't know what to think or expect anymore.
