Can’t believe it’s been 5 years. We were doomed the minute that plonker walked through the door.
Still remember his interviews, they were all along the lines of ‘uhhhh we uhhhhh we had good spells uhhh in the game uhhhh but couldn’t get the win today ugghh’.
Hands down the worst manager we’ve had in my years watching Stoke, tactic was basically give the ball to Shaqiri and pray

You can say a lot of things about Paul Lambert but one thing you can’t say is that he was appointed in May

He would have kept us up if he wasn't forced to play Butland and Shawcross

He arrived in January. Should never, ever, in a trillion years, have been a go-to option on our list, whether he was 1st, or 21st-choice.
We then inexplicably gave him a 2.5 year contract, and sacked him 4 months later, for getting relegated. FFS.
I can only imagine this was during the Coates family's little-publicised, dark, 'Crystal Meth bender' phase.
It's up there with the most ridiculous decisions the club have made in my lifetime. I still maintain that keeping Hughes would have been preferable.

Ah yes
I remember the day after Hughes was sacked, Lambert was in the media saying he'd be happy to come and rescue Stoke. We collectively laughed as we looked to be appointing Flores.
Then we went and did the unthinkable, though given our track record nowadays, maybe it wasn't so unthinkable.

It wasn't to the day, it was January 15th 2018. I remember it well because we raised a glass to the death of Dolores O'Riordan who died that day, before heading to Old Trafford.

Tepid appointment at best and you could argue not doing anything and just letting "one of the backroom staff" take over as a better option. Not sure why we didn't go for a bigger name and only the Coates family can explain that. The damage had been done with the worst transfer record in the history of SCFC taking place in the summer.

Astonishingly then spent 113 games in charge of Ipswich, despite taking them down like he did with us.

Which means it’s five years to the day since I was sitting in Bathstore in Shrewsbury. I can still remember my wife and the nice lady who was designing our bathroom looking perplexed as I checked my phone and said out of the blue, “Lambert? Paul bloody Lambert. FFS Stoke.”
And it hasn’t really got any better since. Bathroom still looks good though.

It was a great day, made loads of money that day. There was a tweet saying Lambert was going to announced within the hour out of nowhere ( might have been from martin spinks) and skybet still had the book open so made a killing.

I think it doesn’t really matter because we were such a mess we would have gone sooner rather than later anyway. It would have just delayed it, not avoided it completely.

Lambert won his first game in charge against Huddersfield and his final game at Swansea.
Trouble was he didn't win any games at all in between.
Still, a nice symmetry to his reign.
