Most of the hype is centred around that amazing start to last season which coincided with all the 'Meet Ben Brereton, the Stoke-born Chile sensation...and now he's doing Pepsi adverts. Isn't it crazy?' pieces. 7 goals in 20-21, and 12 this season aren't really noteworthy in the sense that it's going to attract attention from the big boys. But that run at the start of last season was sensational, albeit with 4 or 5 pens I don't know how many of his goals were scored wide and how many were when he started central (transfermarkt suggests it was a mixed bag) But isn't there maybe an argument that wide forwards in this era of Rashford, Saka, Martinelli and Salah are essentially just as prolific as central strikers these days? I might be doing him a major disservice in terms of what he brings to the table outside goals though Sure, all fair points. I'm not saying he's prolific but I'd argue he's found consistency and reliability these last two seasons when he hasn't been either injured (this season) or possibly a bit burnt out (end of last season). When he's been fit he's scored with decent regularity - seems to be getting back to that right now with B'burn after a layoff... and he certainly contributes outside of the goals, he's a bloody hard worker and capable of causing havoc when he drives at defences. I can't decide how he'll get on in La Liga.. he may well be able to bully teams a bit with his physicality, and he'll offer something direct that La Liga teams possibly aren't used to, but it's equally likely the step up in quality will be a bit much overall and defenders will be too wily for him once they figure out his game. He'll have to be prepared to learn quickly, but his experience with Chile should stand him in good stead. Should be interesting anyway. Yes. We should have quite a player on our hands in a few years time.

With the news of his switch to Spain next season nearly done, I actually think it boosts our chances of him signing for us in the future.
I hope for the lad and his family this doesn’t happen but let’s say on the pitch it doesn’t work out at all well during the first 5-6 months, off the field it’s equally as difficult and a Stoke side on a great run of form with a promotion charge firmly in their sights offer a 6 month loan deal to bring some “normality” back to the player and his family...
Would he turn it down? Doubtful in that scenario.

I have some good mates from Chell Heath and Fegg Hayes but I couldn't resist a little dig. I grew up in Smallthorne myself. Top end near cemetery. What's your age mate? If you don't mind me asking? Haha I'm an old fart, 58. I moved when I was in my early teens.

Not been through Smallthorne in ages. What was the other pub near the top that got knocked down in the 70s. Was it the Greyhound?

I watched it and didn't. I think his situation encouraged a few people to wonder but he was actually not what we were looking for anyway. You can't defend Bayern for his bloody-mindedness though or his know-it-all stance. Why take the opportunity to have a pop at fellow fans? It actually wasn’t you big drama queen. Being that optimistic and naive looks quite nice compared to being a big cynical twat. That’s all. Fucking hell. You’ll get stuck in reverse gear one of these days. Be careful you don’t trip over your opinion on the way out of it.

Born opposite the Greyhound. All knocked down now of course. Smallthorne had loads of pubs from top to bottom. I lived in jolly Street an d then Saturn Road. Departed those shores in 1975. Dad's family lived in Brierly Street (queen street)from 1900's and grandad used to walk to Stoke for the match. 🤣
