But how do you know this? Do you know Ben or his family? Because all the reports at the time suggested he hadn't signed a pre contract. I thought everyone (including Blackburn) are pretty sure he has signed one but no one actually knows? The Blackburn director of football (In February) confirmed there has been an offer but also confirmed nothing had been signed.

I thought everyone (including Blackburn) are pretty sure he has signed one but no one actually knows? I haven't read up on it extensively but one of the articles that was linked on this thread quoted someone from Blackburn saying he had held talks with Vilareal but hadn't signed anything. Hence Nixon's piece from mid February that Blackburn had offered him £30k. Why would he write they'd done that if it was common knowledge he'd signed a pre contract? I realise that is over a month ago and things can change but I haven't seen anything official which is why I asked the question.

that's from 29th January it's been denied by Rovers since then doesn't mean he won't go there but it's simply not clear atm

Ok fair enough. But Talk Sport is hardly the Gospel is it and that article is from January? Plus Blackburns CEO has refuted that story since then. I just wondered what had suddenly prompted you to make such an emphatic statement. I thought some new information must have emerged. But who knows? I’m not saying he won’t go to Spain as I have no insider knowledge on this matter at all other than I once vaguely knew his dad. Mind you I suppose on here that makes me ITK. 😉

The sports marketing people at Adidas (his sponsors) in Chile are all working on the assumption he’ll be at Villarreal next season, if that means anything

FFP is sorted. We have an excellent manager. We have a proper transfer kitty this summer. The team are improving noticeably. Four giant steps forwards. We just have to ensure we don’t get arrogant again and assume we will be back in the Prem in a short while and not have to worry about FFP. And that last line is key. We can't just keep repeating the same mistakes. If we are turning it round it's down to the pure dumb luck of them finally stumbling across what would appear to be a decent manager. Well, we were getting through them weren’t we?! Lambert Rowett Jones O’Neill Now Neil. 80% miss rate by that measure, although I’d argue Jones and Rowett have been relatively successful since departing (playoffs isn’t to be sniffed at) but were dire with us (maybe Rowett should’ve had more time but wasted so much money). Point is, I wonder if success isn’t entirely predicated by the manager alone, but they need a good team too.

They need to be the right fit for the club and its circumstances and it's on whoever's appointed them to take that into account. I don't get the impression we do our due diligence there at all.

Here's a little quirk, if he does go there... the main industry of Villarreal is..... pottery. The stadium is called Estadio de la Cerámica.

He's a good player but not really what we are crying out for. He's more of a wide forward than a target man and definitely not worth £30k a week although we could do with another wide forward player as well.
I can't see us going big on two forwards. I think we may spend biggish on a more central striker and go for a young (JPB type) out wide.

Brereton Riis/piroe (or the like) Campbell There’s 50-60 goals there alone

Seriously though it is 99.9% done. Pre contracts have been done and he is actually in the process of buying a property. I do know this but it’s not my place to say where it’s come from. Obviously it will be announced soon anyway. Personally I think it’s a superb move.

Perhaps in three years when we are back in the Prem we can sign him as a back-up forward.

To be fair lots of clubs struggle to get it right. Just annoying that our relegation could probably have been avoided by not signing lambert…

Hopefully things are starting to turn, though even then if the manager goes we’re back to square one.

Ben Brererton was subbed early into the 2nd half of Chiles 3-2 victory v Paraguay earlier today, reports say brought of as a precautionary measure after sustaining a knock but will be returning back to Blackburn for them to assess him. Maybe something or nothing but could potentially be an issue for Blackburns run in.

Terrible first half, then Alexis came on and totally changed the game.. the goalie's own goal for the injury time winner is worth a look got to feel for him...
