Got be honest I still don't get how someone drowns there unless they can't swim or filled their pockets. The bit for me that I'll never get and maybe folk just have differing thought processes. However if my wife or sister was missing doubt I'd set up multiple JustGiving pages and change the beneficiaries especially for the period where the outcome is uncertain. If you look at the reports from two experts at the inquest. Very cold water, cold water shock, clothed.... couple of breaths and body seizes. When you see what they say, you can easily see how it happens, but granted it may not be as widely publicly known as perhaps it should be through education.

It's much, much easier than you might think if the water is cold enough (which it would have been). Even if you turn off the hot water in the shower, you'll start gasping for air and hyperventilating. Now imagine you're fully clothed and face down/under water, it really doesn't take much.

I actually never appreciated how cold river water was. I know ocean waters are close to freezing, but I imagined inland rivers (whilst cold) would still not be cold enough to kill someone.

BBC news this evening is the height of hypocrisy.
Blaming, quite correctly, the social media unfounded speculation yet it was then and now the main event on their newscasts for days.
At a time when there were numerous news events happening around the world the news and Breakfast TV were infatuated with this sad story, feeding and actively stokeing up the internet speculation that they are now criticising.

I’m all for a free press, but there has to be accountability for the shit they cause. They aren’t interested in reporting facts, they are just going for the maximum sensationalist angle. No thought or regard for victims, just let’s see how much interest they can get.

No thought or regard for victims, just let’s see how much interest they can get. The recent submarine thing is a prime example of that. Once they knew how long the oxygen supply lasted it turned into a countdown to grip people. Then discussion how they'd die if they run out of oxygen and stuff is just wrong imo. Family and friends will see that info. If people wanted to know they could Google it.

The clamour for information by the public is serviced by the media and neither party consider their right to know. In days gone by there was a dignified silence whilst major investigations took place, but this has since turned into a media circus with the police feeling compelled to comment which then gives the press more to feed on.
I hope the police will tell the media nothing unless it assists their enquiry or there is a public interest need around public safety. I wonder whether the recent drownings off Bournemouth pier might be the start of a new relationship where the media were given very little by the police. Yes, it led to more ridiculous speculation by the media, but the only people who should be kept informed are the victims family.
Plenty in society have a lot to answer for with their gruesome, insensitive and unwarranted prying into events that are none of their business. I hope we see change and adopt a position where if you don’t need to know, then you don’t need to know and keep your nose out of stuff that does not concern you.
