I’d like to see Ryan Shawcross come in to the setup on a permanent basis.
We need the modern chief executive, technical director and director of football triumvirate approach. We need to bring through our youngsters.
We need to accept that promotion from here is a 3 year project and that Neil and Shawcross could be the leaders we need.
Work has been done on the finances and infrastructure. Rediscovering our football identity is the missing link and these two guys could do it.

It seems that he's done a lot of education and training in football management and is very clear about three structure he thinks is needed, and it appears to be completely opposite to what our owners think. So I can't see it happening although if I were Coates I'd bring him in to oversee it all, the restructuring

I would prefer him than John O'Shea as our defensive coach. I was a bit disappointed when that appointment was made when Shawcross was available and he's done nothing to improve our defence.

If I were JC I'd try to persuade Tony Scholes to come out of semi-retirement at the Premier league and rejoin the club as Chief Executive.
I feel like we've been pretty much rudderless since Scholesy left town.

Not so sure its a good idea having a well respected club legend as part of our management set up. Lampard appointing Chelsea being a prime eg of how things can go abit stale. Remember Denis Smith saying he declined Peter Coates approaches to become Stoke manager as he feared failing & ruining his unique standing and mutual love of the club.
Be great if it worked but at the same time it's a big gamble..

When he did the commentary the other day I was really disappointed. Didn't seem to have much to say about the game at all, very little analysis of tactics, just slagging off the ref which most of us could do.

E.g. taking the piss out of Preston’s warm-up routine before the second half (how did that work out) Have to give him leeway being his first time I guess but I can’t say I was knocked out by the insight

What evidence do you base predicting that Shawcross could do a good job here? Just because he was a good player doesn’t mean he’ll be good in a management or DOF role, or even a good coach. We had a manger who was developing our younger players, we sacked him and replaced him with a manager who’s performing worse and doesn’t play younger players. If we want an identity we need to decide what it is and be patient, it will take time. The biggest thing will be recruiting managers that fit the identity of who we want to be, instead of the totally different type or style of manager we keep doing

He gave young players pathways to getting in the team. If Shawcross would implement a structure that gave talented young players a pathway into the team I'd be happy. But then why not Bojan, Hoekstra, any other ex stoke player instead?

It's the lifetime of experience and contacts within the game you're looking to utilise. I think it's in your head coach that you want current football thinking and tactics etc. I think it makes for an easier relationship between the two when the coach knows the DoF doesn't covet his job. The style would still need to be decided by the owners so they'd still have to make their mind up what they actually want over and above promotion. If you don't know what you want in the first place how can you possibly employ the right people.

Here we go again.......
Mama Walters Rory Bojan Fuller Lawrence Bego Shawcross
The list is probably a little bigger than that, but they are just some ex-players who people on here think or thought we should get back to the club as coaches of some description.
Two words......
Fucking normal.

He just seems to care about the club. A rare commodity in leaders these days. You really think that F wit in #10 cares about us regular people? If there’s a bit of passion and energy on offer, I say grab it.
Gotta fly. Must make it down to the local UK owned supermarket brimming with cheap high quality farm fresh products from our newly liberated farmers in my British built electric car built by British workers charged magically by our new liberated economy that is tearing a new a hole across Europe and the world… not.
You see that’s the thing. People will promise you anything. And sometimes 52% are gullible enough to fall for it. I don’t think Ryan is promising anyone anything. I just like someone who seems invested in the project.

You only need to look at the success of Ole at Man Utd, Lampard at Chelsea and Macari at Celtic to see that only someone who knows the club can succeed.
