Came to the oatcake for the first time in years to see if anyone else felt the same as me and lo and behold I read this thread and all posts resonated with me.
I've decided what I'm going to do. Batten down the hatches and go hardcore Stoke City Supporters. I'm not going to moan about missed shots, Thompson passing backwards, etc I'm going vocal in the ground and full positivity mode now and see if it infects people around me.
GO ON STOKE!!!!!!!

I’m not sure when I felt the most dispirited, 7-0 at home to Brum was bad, but I think the trek back from Plymouth after a 6-0 drubbing to hear Mick Mills say we were the best team until the 4th goal went in, was marginally worse. I’m probably at that level now; I don’t see it getting better for at least a couple of seasons; whether we will still be a Championship side - I’m not sure. Plymouth?wasn’t that Swindon? You may be right Crouchie- Plymouth may only have been 4 or 5, round about 1986?

I hear so many fans giving up at the minute and it’s a huge problem for the club because once folk get out of the routine of going to games and not missing match days, it is very difficult getting them to return. Some form may help short term. I think 'given' ups the word as opposed to 'giving'. Sadly some have seen enough. Even life long season ticket holders have made the decision to swerve matches now.

I first started going regularly in 1975 and in all that time since, this is now the first time when it doesn't hurt anymore when we lose.
I know there has been worse times in the past but I still cared then, I don't anymore.

I’m not surprised or upset when we lose like that, just resigned to it which is a terrible state of affairs.

Coming so soon after watching Bojan, Arnie and Shaq tearing the big clubs a new one makes it so much worse

So where do we go from here? I'm at a loss. Is it the manager, is it the players? Is it the manager and the players?
what can we realistically do to try and turn this around, every manager we bring in seems to do the same thing, odd team selections, playing players out of position, poor tactical decisions and subs too late, are all the players sh*t? if not to start with then they all seem to fade and not seem up for it. Is it something culturally at the club that turns them into players that can't really be arsed, and just turn up for the pay cheque. Are the managers even really arsed knowing full well they get paid millions whatever they do?
its depressing

Nothing wrong with GRs record at Millwall Nothing wrong with NJ's record at Luton Nothing wrong with MoN doing so well with northern Ireland, he won the BBC sports personality of the year Coach award Nothing wrong with ANs record at Sunderland So much experience between them and all of them left scratching their heads at Stoke players, and all of them glad to be out of the place It's the players, the ludicrous golden, failure rewarding contracts , the players are on and in some vague way I can't but my finger on, something to do with the ethos and culture of the club

Are the managers even really arsed knowing full well they get paid millions whatever they do? its depressing We have to dig down to the cause/source of our problems, that being the rot that set in causing our demise from the Prem and the departure of Hughes. from that point onwards we have been on a merry go round of managers and players who are not fit for purpose at all and have delivered the square root of nothing. Whether some people will like to admit it or not, the ownership of this club is the problem. As fantastic as they have been for the club, they haven’t moved with the times and are stubbornly trying to press on with their leadership that’s just not working anymore. Their almost refusal to go after talented managers and players from abroad is killing us. In this day you can’t keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Let’s not forget, many of our managers and players aren’t bad on paper and have performed elsewhere, they just don’t here. At this point I see 2 options - the Coates family moves with the times and bring in a radical change in management & players who are hungry and talented from Europe or further. Or the nuclear option - get new owners. Either way, without the family doing at least one of those, the club is destined to fall lower.

I don't really understand what it is that the Coates are doing or not doing that would directly improve what is happening on the pitch, unless it is some kind of general air of apathy that some how permeates through the club and down to the players. All the managers seem to have performed better before and after Stoke, we've had a big turnover of players, would love to pinpoint exactly what the 'rot' is

Well, I have just purchased a ticket online after deliberating for the last 24 hours whether to or not. Now I have done it I am dreading the journey down, dreading the journey back on our lovely roads and pretty much numb to what will happen in the middle. I used to kick every ball at a game and came out of the match exhausted and with a sore throat from shouting my bollox off. Now I just sit there and observe. Not sure for me it would change much if we were successful, just think the modern-day game is as boring as can possibly be and not a spectator sport anymore. This noncontact footie with the ref blowing for everything and players rolling around on the floor is beyond tedious, if we are 1-0 down with 20 minutes to go there will be 800 substitutions, man with the sponge coming on every other minute. Probably going to cost me £100 for the experience, which I can't really afford, to watch overpaid out of touch footballers and officials ruin the beautiful game. Nevertheless COYMP Which is were I am now. Spot on. Must have had my crystal ball out, took me nearly 5 hours to do 85 miles on the car park they call the M6, missed the first 15 mins of the game even though it was put back 15 mins, and watched Preston time waste for the entire game and then snatch a winner when they didn't even look like they were trying to win/score. No cheese n onion pies either - another shocker all round

I’ve been exiled for 8 years now and always gone out of my way to watch as many games as possible, was very easy in the prem but I’ve had to buy the official streaming passes since.
This was the first season where i thought what’s the fucking point and sacked it, but I’ve kept up to date on here and with highlights.
I woke up tonight at 4am (3pm UK) and just watched Hearts vs Hibs with a couple of mates, I could barely even be arsed to follow the score.
Very apathetic
Edit: Zander Clark was excellent

Not lost my love, never will but
but not been to Stoke for over 8 years now, my 3 racehorses come 1st these days
Long train trip from Bournemouth, long bloody walk to the ground [oh for the stroll to the Vic]
Have to leave 10 mins from the end to get the 17.05 back to Bournemouth which is usually cancelled , have to wait an hour for the next , get indoors around 11pm Too old for all this now, but still love Stoke, [sadly now from my armchair]

I may just pay for my 3 season tickets next year for my dad/lad and me and request we are not assigned seats. That way I won’t be guilted into going along when it is last thing I feel like doing at the moment. Would at least feel I was contributing to a lost love, a bit like having to pay child maintenance🤣

Macron being our kit manufacturer is our curse, I tell thee!! It's got to be, we've changed managers, backroom room staff, boardroom staff & playing squad & nothings changing. Our fortunes rapidily declined when we changed to 'Macron'. Now I'm not criticising their kit designs, in the main they've been far better than I thought they would. But we've worn Macron kits during relegation and our proceeding dour years in the Championship era. Time to rip up the kit contract & ditch Macron, Watch us flourish again then 😉🤣

Same. I lost the love about 5 years ago. After 50 years, I hardly know a player by sight & never follow the score. I just catch up a few hours later. Sadly & shockingly, I almost find it reassuring & enjoyable when I find we lost because it strengthens my knowledge that the bosses F**ked it all up! We finally after 150 years had it all& F**ked the whole thing up!!!

I feel like this about football in general!!! Football (for me) has moved forward with pace since OUR days in the Prem, its virtually unrecognisable from the 70's/80's eras of football.... I don't watch any Premier league games, I don't watch the champions league I don't even watch international football anymore, didn't watch a single game of the world cup, not even the final, and I didn't miss it one bit!!! I've lost interest in what WAS the greatest game in the world, I never dreamt I would hear myself say that!!! As for Stoke, my patience is hanging by a thread right now, I've no desire to go down at the moment, I'm a season ticket holder (have been since 1978) and missed more matches than I've been this season.... through choice!!! I seriously don't think I'll be renewing next season, no matter what, and that hurts me to think that, as I took over my Dad's seat when he passed away, and it's directly in line with where his ashes are now buried!!!

Read lots of posts. So many true heartfelt comments. Makes me feel so sad. I used to travel all over coming up from London. Buy all the shirts & wear them everywhere I went. Now I don’t even let anyone know I ‘was’ a Stokie. After being a supporter over 50 years, I can tell everyone with 100% certainty It will be a very very long time before we get any resemblance of success. Probably 30 years.

Losing love for Stoke. You should of been there for 84/85 season, you would of slit your wrists. For my 14th Birthday, I got a season ticket for the 84/85 season! 🙈 The only way that could be worse would be if you were 14 this year.
