It seems to me we need the players to have their heads seen too. When dominate possession we fail to make it count.. particularly if we are behind. The shots are often mis- hit, misdirected and poorly controlled or the necessary focus on decision making is mishandled. Added to a tendency to conceded poor goals against the run of play I think the team lack the power of belief often times. If a good head shrinking doesn't help them as a group I'd be tempted to bring in a team Shaman

Defeats are somewhat easier to take if the players have given everything but we were either unlucky or beat by the better team.
When you see what happened today where the players just completely lose their heads and clearly dejected, resorting to lumping it up to Brown which was insanity then it really irks me.
They need to get some combativeness and resilience from somewhere.

The concerning thing is that despite a significant turnover players Rowett, Jones and MON all failed to resolve this fragility. If Neil doesn’t do it then he’ll meet the same fate as them.

It makes me wonder whether there is an ongoing negative culture propagating itself across the years happening at the club? Even if different managers and players come in there's always an ongoing culture that they enter into upon their arrival.

I have wondered whether the psychological hangover of relegation still hasn't cleared and permeates the club.

Iglugluk wrote :- Exaggerated positivity isn't really indicative of any kind of truth, as far as I'm concerned as it can be brought about in am attempt to change a negative situation.. the word 'exaggerated' possibly implies you don't believe the veracity of it? My point pertains to successive managers failing over recent years. Company's have a 'personality' and so do teams.. it permeates through the very essence of a group. I'm not saying this is the case but I'm certainly not ruling the possibility out.

Every new manager, recently, has mentioned at some time having to deal with "mindset and mentality" of players. It can't be a coincidence and needs investigation by board/owners urgently.

I agree.. although whether an investigation can remove an ongoing negative culture is debatable I think. Once that energy has entered a group it has a tendency to perpetuate as far as I can tell. Probably the shaman option is the best way to go

Something needs to be done as there is no lack of ability but a lack of a personality prepared to take the game to the opposition and risk doing the unexpected. Powell was a breath of fresh air when he came on, rattling Coventry's cage, getting amongst them, showing some passion and imagination. Then he was moved back to accommodate Delap and we went back to our predictable, flat attacking unit. Powell has to play up front for me. I still would like to see him and Gayle on the pitch together.

I still would like to see him and Gayle on the pitch together. Powell clearly has the right mindset and has had since he got here. He's creative and he's also no push over physically which makes a big difference in this league. We need a team of players with his approach. The pure inability to score of our forwards is hard to understand though and I'm not of the opinion that they just aren't up to it.. The team as a whole play so hot and cold and it's hard to see why they can't get it together more reliably. Their heads are clearly not right, as far as I'm concerned. The manager has been here long enough to get some traction but he seems to be struggling, as have the previous incumbents.

Cut out backward passes unless it is the only option.

I think that the fundamental problem is the whole club - Directors, players, managers, fans, everyone, know that we are underperforming and it's making it worse.
This reply may have been better served posting on the Are We In A Spiral Thread, but it stands.

It starts with the Manager. That's his job, to get the best from what he works with. It doesn't matter whether you are in sport, industry, or the forces. His job is to train & motivate. If he fails to do that then he's in the wrong job.

Not being funny - but my missus reckons that I need to go and see a shrink because she reckons that putting up with my foul moods on match days moaning about the the crap on offer and repeatedly returning to watch it week after week is doing my head in and is borderline certifiable insanity. And she is a trained mental health practitioner.
