It was probably started by Bayern.

I was on it in the early days. The first thread was 'what do you like on your Oatcakes?' The consensus was cheese, bacon and brown sauce. Then bayern appeared and it became a thirteen page thread about Martin Carruthers in which he expressed 14 different contradictory opinions, only one of which he ever repeated again.

I expect that there was quite a lot of derision aimed at the Fail and their followers.

I was a regular poster on the old board, going right back to the fenetre days. Can't remember the first ever thread but it was a very different experience back in those days.
OldStokie had a bit of a thing going on with a Vale fan who was obsessed with Steve Brooker.

Perhaps it was that all important question, "Ast thee got thee brown wings yet?"

Had any tacticians back then come up with "5 across the back?"

I rember reading it but never posted and was like more rival fans arguing. Later was a couple of Crewe fans who were Stoke obsessed.

A very basic board which showed threads in a tree like nature. Then rivals set up and it was going for a while, but then shot itself in the foot when their message board went, well, to shit. There was a bit of toing and froing between the two services and then we settled here. I see I joined this version in 2004, so fenetre has to be late 90s.

Very strange, ground breaking times back then.

Very strange, ground breaking times back then. It was in a way, dial ups had been going for a bit (commonly available around 94-5). You generally used something like "Freeserve" to access the provider, the phone call was slightly dearer and that is how they made their $. Slowly web-sites got going and you have to say this Oatcake was probably one of the "Grand-daddys". There weren't many users back then (check a matchday here now which has probably a 1000 or so). You knew absolutely everybody who posted back then. We've come a long way in just over 20 years.

That predates the arrival of aliens like me. The great Netscape Navigator vs Internet Exploder war was raging & we were starting to run low on fuel for our saucer. Plus I wanted to explore Claudia Schiffer...but I digress.
It was ultimately Zork's fault we landed here - the fool insisted that he had spotted intelligent life and that the Iraqi's were developing WMDs. Ended up it was just Jez Moxey building a football stadium, not a spaceship and Iraq was only trying to develop underarm deodorant. Al Quaida was still just a pub football team and George Bush Sr. was still chasing women with an apple. When they left the gate open, the lad got out and next thing you know he's running against Clinton for US President.
Ah the...beige old days.

I'm not sure, but a quick search found this post from 2004:
"If you must know I'm having a very stressful morning. Run out of coffee and had to send a young lady to Safeway for supplies, and Jaffa cakes of course. In between important business like decisions I'm going to watch "Peter Pan" on my DVD player."

I was an original member but I have very vague memories.
My first real memory was Sarah4Stoke's morphing into Sarah4Cardiff, that was tedious.......

There was a chap who was music mad and constantly reviewed albums and concerts.
I had no idea who he was ever talking about

I read fenetre but only started posting on Rivals
It was decent until Sky bought it ..then the software went to shit!
We moved here temporarily, went back after promises of fixes, then gave up and came back here
Aside from brown wings (which was in the middle of its Rivals stint!), some legendary MCF74 pre match previews, IlfordDave/DaveAle, and some top people who I met many times at Delilahs, at Oatcake Occassionals inter message board matches, OBPUs, and some great rival team posters who were good folk
Obvs some utter knobbers too over the years :-D

Oh, and the day we broke the internet on the day Gudjon was sacked, fairly sure Smudge said the site had around 1 million hits during the day as people vented, went away, came back to vent some more, others argued it was correct....
