I used to post a weekly Sunday evening new music review (from the days when I was sent stuff to listen/review/play) but I couldn't be arsed with live reviews, don't know who that was. Perhaps was you. Maybe not concerts but certainly music mad. I might be getting him mixed up but someone asked what song do you hate the most and I said 'Blue Monday', I absolutely detest it and he was a bit shocked. I quite liked his music stuff although don't listen to much at all and had little idea what he was talking about . Was also a chap who was the matchday PA at St James' Park and a DJ. There was another person on here whose sign in name was [someting]DJ I think? Brynn, now in Guernsey also posted a lot of stuff about music, and Paul Spencer, who still posts on here but mostly on the other bit,, which reminds me that everything from Stoke and football, to everything else was all in the same place, before Smudge and DaveF split the forum themes up.

Biggest change there used to be regular 'bants' with fans of other clubs. There were direct links on the home page of the old board to the boards of all the other clubs in our division and no registration process. So for example ahead of the Preston match last weekend there would have been a message on here something like this... Subject: Your visit to Deepdale From: PNE DaveTell your lot to have a double dose of their medication before they turn up at our place on Saturday. I remember reading an excellent piece on the Grimsby forum by a poster called GrimRob when they got relegated. It was brilliant writing, just oozing sarcasm. For all its faults, I do miss that aspect of the old board. I would sometimes go on to random forums and post graphi descriptions of sex acts for a laugh. Good times!

I always remember Rex boasting about his signed Liverpool shirt by a player they'd signed who I think only played a couple of times for them and how much it was worth. Was during some point scoring confrontation re the cable incident who I think was Tel's Dad. It was pointed out to him that it must have been the only player who signing a shirt de-valued it somehow 😁 was one sold on EBay/on line for considerably less that the price of the shirt itself. I think he played v us in that 1-0 friendly win then was quickly sold on.

I remember starting a thread about Peter Beagrie returning with Bradford (I looked it up and it was August 1997). I said we shouldn't boo him. Smudge disagreed with me and it scared the beejezuz out of me so I stopped posting! I remember posters called mica (who was from NZ i think?) and someone who called himself a mad plumber

Was MCF a poster back then? I was just a lurker who darent post. But my work pc wouldn't refresh the page so I had to set up a username called T and used to post just a message with T in it. It used to drive people mad - some thought it was MI5 looking in

I remember the move over to Pro Boards, around 2004 I think, caused quite a lot of confusion as to whether it was automatic or you had to re-register. The spats between Mumf and Hudsongod were epic with one time an arranged fight by Sir Stans statue. Hudsongod morphed into waiting4waddo before disappearing after receiving personal threats to him and his family due to his controversial views on Palestine/Israel conflict. There was a year long thread "can an aeroplane take off on a treadmill" that came to no conclusion despite the physics boffins of the board adding their two penneth. In the early days there was much humour but over the last few years it’s become more and more abusive and disrespectful and many have left or do not join in discussions because of this. The EE board has mostly contributed to this imo.

I’m a bit confused by what date the original message board started, I’m sure members of the Stoke Southern supporters used to post where details of cheap train tickets and meeting points for the southern supporters football matches in London were discussed, I’m sure that was early 90’s, anyone from that era still posting ?

the mb was a massive deal when coates sold to the icelanders in 1999. someone with an inside track (or maybe they were just listening to radio stoke!) was posting updates and i think the board topped 1000 users for the first time ever. given no-one in the rest of the country cared, and at the time stoke fans hated coates and wanted him gone, it felt like a real moment for the internet
I also remember on the early match threads the site would time you out if you didn't post so people would just type pages and pages of COS with the odd reference to a throw in from someone again listening to radio stoke.
years later I worked for the guardian and they basically nicked the oatcake match thread idea and paid someone to watch the cricket and post over-by-over coverage. it ended up being copied by everyone, called live blogging and revolutionised sports and later news coverage. but we started it! COS

I loved that first old board it was great. Up to then it was talking about Stoke with your mates and just looking for the old column in the sentinel.
I think it really created much more engagement with all things Stoke City.

I was a regular poster on the old board, going right back to the fenetre days. Can't remember the first ever thread but it was a very different experience back in those days. OldStokie had a bit of a thing going on with a Vale fan who was obsessed with Steve Brooker. Same name? No different name back then.

Was it IlfordDave who had a thread about a rather lackluster job of restoring some seats from the old ground?
It was deffo IlfordDave who "Burnt brighter than a 1,000W lightbulb" when he overheard some lads down the match saying "That's the legend IlfordDave".
There was 'Mr.Walnut Whip' (Craig?) But I think that might have been on this version of the Oatcake.

Don't remember Ian RB at all. Was someone who refused to go as long as Pulis was manager, that worked well and a lad from Derby who went into meltdown that he was never going again . He was parked next to me the following game. 😁

A lot of the old guard live on Twitter nowadays and rarely post here
Glenn Airey, Becks, Jon Owen, Bunny - we still chat the same shite but without each tweet taken over by somebody arguing the toss :-)
Keep in touch with Mick (OldStokie), Paul (TheWiseMaster), Mark (MCF - he reffed one of my lads kids games at Blurton recently!) and others on Facebook
It really was a close knit community once upon a time, Stoke were fairly shit, broadband was still quite new (2mb BB was considered rock n roll compared to 4k dial up in the late 90s!)
This place exploded after Gudjons sacking, Cotterills disappearance, Burley-gate, Pulis Binary season, Boskamps bizarro season - but the build up and eventual promotion to the Prem saw a whole new younger audience arrive! And a variety of keyboard warriors.....

I was an original member but I have very vague memories. My first real memory was Sarah4Stoke's morphing into Sarah4Cardiff, that was tedious....... ha ha, I remember that one now, some strange people have come and gone in the past. Did it go to rivals in about 99, I remember a bit of a meltdown after the Gillingham play off matches ?
