I might get some stick for this but here goes, I’ve heard this week that Alex is taking the squad over to Dubai for some training during the WC break. Not sure on the duration or anything else just heard that the manager wants to do a mini pre season as quite a few players did not play many minutes over pre season and were quite down on match fitness.

Good idea if true and guess many clubs would do the same. I wouldn’t be surprised if they clocked up some games out there. The difficult bit will be over Christmas trying to get them to maintain that fitness.

Strange never to be repeated season.
Only 7 matches to go for us before a 4 week break between WBA away on 12 Nov and Cardiff at home on 10 Dec.
If we are say top 8 after the WBA game then no one will begrudge the lads a cheeky sunshine break with a bit of light football thrown in.
Alex Neil will be super keen to go one would imagine, I haven't seen anyone comment on it but he is the last word in the perma-tan. With rising energy bills it will save him a few quid on the sun lamp this winter 😆

Nip over to the World Cup It'd be a big shock if he didn't. Talking to agents and all that. Its fair enough itd be beneficial. He'll be fine. As long as he isn't a woman. Or gay. Or enjoys a drink. Or likes to sleep in a bed.

Thanks …I’ve been trying to find out info for a while …but had drawn a blank , which interview was this mentioned in , was there any indication of any game(s) private or public
Liverpool , Arsenal and AC Milan all reportedly going Dubai , Whilst Everton and Celtic are going to and playing in Australia
Previous mid season trip to Ajman under TP turned into a bit of costly nightmare for two of us when the game was moved 60-70 miles to Fujairah ..then cancelled
If anyone has any additional info of any game(s) please post or dm me ..thanks

Seems to be a pretty standard thing now. Can’t see the players being against it, it beats training in England in winter.

I think a few teams use the Jebel Ali resort for this training. It’s got a great set-up for winter sports training.

What's wrong with Austria and the Alps? It was good enough for TP. Or perhaps a few days on the Brecon Beacons with the SAS.

Why not do the training somewhere with bad weather? There will be those playing in WC, other doing this nice warm weather training break and then we kick off again in winter. If we train somewhere the weather isn't great, so that we're then better prepared than the rest. Is it good prep to go somewhere nice and warm to be able to play a congestion fixture list in winter?

If we train somewhere the weather isn't great, so that we're then better prepared than the rest. Is it good prep to go somewhere nice and warm to be able to play a congestion fixture list in winter? I am not sure that is correct. The players get winter training conditions in their regular training in the days before matches played in the winter. When there is a break of decent length as winter approaches it makes perfect sense to go for a week to somewhere that warm dry conditions can be almost guaranteed, to sort out a few tactical aspects which the manager might want to get over to them and to get some fitness training in without worrying about poor weather or cold condtions causing soft tissue injuries. In my youth I was a rock climber and a snow and ice mountaineer. Half the problem with both sports is how to cope with foul weather conditions. A few years before I retired from climbing, indoor climbing walls started to spring up all over the country and we started to use them. Within weeks most of us had upped the standard we could climb at as we were able to test out new techniques in the warm, stay dry and in perfect safety. I wondered if these improved techniques would still be with us when we returned to climbing outdoors. I need not have worried - thanks to the climbing wall training we were fitter and more confident to try things outdoors and most of us had moved up a grade in terms of the level of outdoor climbs we could do. Even in foul weather, which made the climbs harder, we still showed an improvement over what we had been capable of in bad conditions before we visited the climbing walls.

Seconded, I've spent a fair bit of time in dubai and i've totally fallen out with the place, and particularly with the regime. I found Oman and the Omani's to be much friendlier, more genuine, and more relaxed. Having said that I'd choose Portugal, plenty warm enough in November, much nearer, same time zone, quality golf for days off.
